If Windwall Blocks it, Unbreakable should block it

Du Ma Mi··191 votes·14,466 views

Why is it that if Brand's ult is targeted at myself, my E doesn't cause it to be destroyed? It lists in the ability description that projectiles are destroyed when they touch my shield. Brand's R just bounced off of me dealing no damage, then bounced to my wukong and back to me multiple times afterwards, dealing the regular amount.

If Windwall makes it fizzle, Unbreakable should too - it's all about equality.

I recommend making it go through yas shield

if a projectile hits yasuo. the wall is negated. and yasuo takes 99.99% of his max health as true damage

Spicy Rice6 votes

So he takes 10 true damage then?

Ackelope18 votes

is that a joke about his shield being op, or are you misinterpreting the numbers they said there?

JustMyBassCannon19 votes

It's a joke about Yasuo having shit health, not that anyone cares because "but his shield OP!" even though it's literally almost the worst shield in the game.

tooomine23 votes

You know what? sure... I'll give it to you. yas shield is the worst shield in the game. fuck it.

but you know what sucks about malzahar? his significantly better shield comes at the cost of having an ult that does damage.

Yas's shield may be underpowered compared to other shields. Yas's KIT, however, makes his shield OP AF when compared to other kits..

XeroKimo6 votes

Wait Malz ult still does dmg?

Also malz passive got continuously been nerfed, poke and zone mages pretty much counter him hard in lane

They can't QSS out of it anymore, so it's guaranteed to deal at least 15-27% of the target's maximum health, more if they can't immediately step off the AoE. It deals 5/7/9% max HP per second, maxing at 25-45%. For every 100 AP, it increases damage by 1.5% max HP. That's without Malzahar prepping with his W and E.

Yasuo's ult deals 200-400 +150% bonus AD. While, early-game, the base damage of his ult can out-burst Malzahar's ultimate damage, it takes more work to pull it off on your own and he can't supplement that damage with two other abilities.

But, sure, Malzahar ult ain't got no damage.

My Waifu Vanilla9 votes

But.....you can QSS Malzahar ult. QSS only doesn't dispel debuffs so while it can't get rid of Melefic Visions or the actual eye beam you are free to move out of the puddle and take zero damage from Malzahar since the tether itself does ZERO damage.

Ninjaa0033 votes

I've also seen cases where people flash or dash just as the ult starts, and they end up suppressed but outside of the AoE, so that the ult itself does absolutely no damage.

JustMyBassCannon2 votes

That would be a bug, because it's supposed to knock down the target first, which interrupts travel spells, then suppresses them and creates the AoE.

JustMyBassCannon2 votes

Okay, so that's one detail I misunderstood. You can QSS out of Malz' ult still, even though it only says "crowd control" like Cleanse does.

Still doesn't mean Malzahar doesn't lay down an AoE of "fuck you" with his ult. Add Rylai's for taste.

Umbra Ionia2 votes

Is a free shield only walking. If it has a shield life like Sion W it would be fcking broken. (more)

TotalJerk5 votes

This. Yasuo's shield is for mitigating poke and trading in the laning phase. It is not some super OP fight winner. It's like a shittier Malphite shield.

FantasySniper1 votes

Actually, compared to other shield passives it's only surpassed by Shen. He can proc it many more times during a fight than the likes of Poppy or Vi.

JustMyBassCannon2 votes

Quantity isn't everything. Quality is something to consider, and a shield that lasts a fraction of a team fight isn't nearly as health-effective as one that holds until all the damage is taken.

FantasySniper3 votes

100 - 510 is a lot more free scaling than what Vi and Poppy get. Poppy can end up with little over 625 shielding at full build, and Vi's isn't even worth mentioning at that point. Yasuo doesn't have to do anything to proc it, and it's easily back up within 10 to 6 seconds, which is easily circumvented just by using his ult.

Comparing their shields alone, there's no reason to think that Yasuo's is inferior. Then if you were to consider the rest of their kits, Poppy will build up huge resistances that make that shield much more effective, but you also have to consider that Yasuo can 100% nullify any projectile.

Anybody tell you that you get less than 200 until level 11?

Poppy can end up with little over 625 shielding at full build, and Vi's isn't even worth mentioning at that point.

Both of them still have significantly lower cooldowns and longer durations on their shields.

Yasuo doesn't have to do anything to proc it, and it's easily back up within 10 to 6 seconds, which is easily circumvented just by using his ult.

It takes 4600 units of distance to get 100% flow post-11. He would need 460 MS to have it at 10 seconds in constant motion, slightly reduced per E cast. And most Yasuo players don't stack up enough for 460 MS.

Yes, his ultimate can refresh his shield once per 30 seconds. Makes up for not having any other means of rapidly recharging it.

Comparing their shields alone, there's no reason to think that Yasuo's is inferior. Then if you were to consider the rest of their kits, Poppy will build up huge resistances that make that shield much more effective, but you also have to consider that Yasuo can 100% nullify any projectile.

Projectiles legitimately make up less than half of League of Legends attacks, spells and abilities. I counted by hand. You can do a re-count if you want.

And I'm glad you pointed out that Vi and Poppy build resistances to make their shields even more superlatively effective compared to Yasuo's. Because 500 health with 80 Armor does a lot less than 350 health with 200 Armor. Even post-Whisper and Yas ult, between base and what little Bonus armor is still affecting it, their shields come out on top. Because of how the %s stack, you leave a little more than 20% of Bonus Armor unaffected.

Yes, worst shield that you get for free (literally for free) for moving, as it is just tacked onto his passive that is double crit.

I'm pretty sure there are worse...seeing as it is free for moving around. Unless your mouse breaks or you go afk, you are going to be moving around.

I recommend making it go through yas shield

exactly, we already know his dashes are annoying and add that windwall is just making it annoying to deal with him more, especially mages.

RiotAD Yuumi23 votes

This is working as intended I think.

Yasuo's wall destroys projectiles. Brand ult never reaches a target and as such it fizzles.

Braum's shield TAKES THE HIT. The projectile is destroyed and Braum is counted as being hit by whatever the spell was.

Brand ult bounces off enemies it hits, therefore it bounces off Braum.

AMYS GRAVE36 votes

Braum's shield TAKES THE HIT. The projectile is destroyed and Braum is counted as being hit by whatever the spell was.

But the projectile isn't being destroyed if it keeps bouncing. If it were destroyed then that would be the end of the brand ult.

Brand ult bounces off enemies it hits, therefore it bounces off Braum.

Is the Brand ult hitting the shield, or Braum? If the shield is taking the hit it isn't bouncing off of Braum and it should be destroyed, because it never hit a champion. If it is bouncing off of Braum then he should take damage and count as being hit. It either bounces off of Braum or his shield, you have to pick one.

Dengeden6 votes

It bounces off of Braum and he takes no damage. There.

AMYS GRAVE1 votes

So his shield does not block projectiles then?

Dengeden5 votes

Only their damage.

Xenos111111 votes

So it doesn't block Ezreal ult?

Dengeden3 votes

Ezreal's ult is pure damage, so that gets absorbed/blocked fully.

Xenos111112 votes

And Draven ult? It's damage but also slows, so you're saying the ult will carry on and slow others? I don't think that logic is sound.

Also Nami ult?

Dengeden3 votes

Yeah, he gets CC'd himself but it stops at his shield. Because the CC is tied to the damage? But Brand ult bounce is more of a debuff? Idk actually

LXII5 votes

I don't think Brand's ult is coded as one projectile that bounces around.

Think Sivir Q, one projectile, gets destroyed by these things.

Brand's ult is 1 projectile that hits someone then I believe the spell recasts itself off that target and so on until it has reached max uses or fails to acquire a new target.

So with Windwall it never hits someone, so it never reproduces. It DOES hit Braum (for obvious reasons the shield counts as being Braum) so it replicates.

Now I'm not saying I'm happy with this, but there is your reasoning.

NodaYame12715 votes

No you have to understand everything is made to massage yasuo's back and break all other champs' backs

underscores22213 votes

It probably has something to do with how differently the shield and windwall is coded. Windwall destroys everything that crosses it, shield should destroy the first thing (and braum takes no damage) and then redirects everything else to him (and braum takes reduced damage). I'm guessing that the first hit against the shield doesn't actually "destroy" the projectile, it just negates all effects and deals 0 damage to braum. In this case, the fireball has a little tag at the end of it that says "Bounce!" and that part wasn't negated like the burn passive application.

Should probably bug report this.

underscores22211 votes

Right - but shouldn't the wording change from "causing them to be destroyed" to something else? As clearly, some projectiles are not destroyed.

TotalJerk6 votes

There's also the extremely fucking annoying fact that a minion auto counts as a "first thing". Can't tell you many times I tried to stop some CC but a caster minion hit me first.

Spicy Rice2 votes

Damn, really?

Spaceman5pff4 votes

Yep, and riot won't fix it because it would involve way too much rebalancing of braum.

It's very annoying.

It's probably the same reason that Nami's bubble will apply its effect as if she hit Braum dead center if it hits his shield even though it doesn't apply the damage.

TheProAndrew8 votes

Yasuo wind wall dissapear skillshots

Braum unbrekable just intercept it

so jinx ulti for example will disappear with the wind wall but with unbrekable it will have the explosion ratio around braum and dealing damage to allies but reduced or negated to braum so thats how it is coded i guess

Mr Fidori5 votes

Exactly. Which is dumb. I had a Lucian die the other day because I shielded a Jinx Q, but the splash damage still applied and killed him.

It's not even consistent. Unbreakable will stop Sivir's ricochet from bouncing any further, but won't block splash damage from a spell.

Cressalia3 votes

Sivir's Ricochet is just a modified state of an auto attack that does single target damage.

Descriptions of abilities are important in the differentiation of how things get "blocked".

Yasuo: ACTIVE: Yasuo creates a gust of wind that travels forward to form a wall in front of him. The wall slowly drifts forward 50 units over 3.75 seconds, blocking all enemy projectiles with the exception of turret attacks.

Braum: Braum raises his shield in the target direction, creating a barrier that intercepts incoming non-turret enemy projectiles and reduces the damage he takes through the shield. The first instance of damage blocked by his shield is negated completely.

The problem is more with how certain instances of AOE/Damage are calculated upon braum's shield, not the ability itself.

SMD (Jinx ult) explodes on impact, so as soon as it hits something a circle of damage is created around the rocket.

Trueshot Barrage (Ezreal ult) passthrough, does damage to every enemy it passes through.

Pictures to kind of help?

Braum v Jinx SMD First damage is the AOE, but shield does not block AOE for allies.

Braum v Ezreal TB First damage is the passthrough, so the ult gets removed when hitting braum.

Hope this kind of helps to explain it for everyone that doesn't understand.

Mr Fidori3 votes

First off, not talking about Super-Mega Death Rocket. Talking about Fishbones, a modified auto-attack.

Second, while I'm aware that splash damage is still AoE, his description states that the first instance of damage is negated completely. If the AA is negated (as it was the first and only thing to hit my shield, and I took no damage) it doesn't make sense that the AA would be blocked, but its on-hit effect would persist through the shield, when the same thing would be "negated completely" by Windwall.

I get what's happening, but that doesn't make it logical.

DeathBurst3 votes

I get what's happening, but that doesn't make it logical.

Yeah, this. This is the message we need to get through to Riot. About that and about Brand ult too.

They don't affect the same things, but that's not always in windwall's favor.

Braum can block Lux ult, for example. Yasuo can't.
