I used to love laning against Yasuo, but now I'm terrified

I pretty much exclusively play Akali and Fizz so laning against Yasuo was never a real issue, since he almost always ran Fleet Footwork or Press the Attack. These never really scared me, and I could usually get decent trades off. Now that he's running conqueror, if I try to trade, he straight up out trades me, and there doesn't seem to be a lot I can do about it.

Maybe I just need to start taking their advice and "Git gud m8."

Especially when he has a bad start, but late game i wonder where he gets all the damage from. Example: Early game - 0/4/0 Late game - 16/9/8 and then wins

Conqueror should never have been added. It's absolute cancer on the likes of Yasuo and Irelia.

I guess that's why it's called conqueror.

Akali Fizz are also the 2 champs i main, and yasuo isnt hard pre6 or post6 really, i have troubles with him when he builds hexdrinker + mercs and i tickle him even though im 4-0 and him being 0-4 stomps me with his 20% true dmg >.>

The classic answer of guys defending true damage would say: something something build hp. But the real answer is: fuck true damage it's a broken design

GigglesO2 votes

YEa thats why we didn't make all these items that counter hp so that they can say "build hp" while countering it...

item 3036 item 3153 item 1419

I'd be ok with it if they removed all %hp damage, especially %hp true damage.

Yasuo isn't a hyper carry, he's a scale heavy (but base-stat light) skirmisher.

Melee carries; Yi, Aatrox, Trynd (and old Fiora) scale much harder than ADC's ever have with items, and also boast better base stats.

Yasuo has base stats very similar to ADCs - despite being melee - and also scales worse than pretty much all ADC's. He's also light on steroids (especially given his R is contextual) compared to most ADC champions.

Nah I'm pretty sure you can list Yasuo as a hyper-carry

So you're saying he... scales into carrying very powerfully, as in a hyper carry...

No.

Doozku1 votes

and also scales worse than pretty much all ADC's

Yes.

What people forget about Yasuo is his crits only deal 90% damage, which isn't a lot, but also his only real damaging ability outside of his ult is his Q which actual scales down with crit because otherwise his Q would deal retarded levels of GP Q damage. The only other auto-attack modifier on his kit is his Ult which gives armor pen. Compare that to an ADC who has full crit damage, multiple damage abilites, and almost always an attack speed steroid while being ranged, and yes, ADCs scale harder than Yasuo. Yasuo is more of a mid game champion tbh. He spikes really hard with 2 items and stays relevant throughout the game but can't be compared to other skirmishers like Yi, trynd, GP, etc unless he's snowballing.

Velzard of Koz1 votes

Compare that to ADC who needs four items for 100% crit without wasting stats while Yasuo needs just two and suddenly -10% crit damage isn't that big deal?

multiple damage abilites

Like Lucian, who has just Q and his W is as damaging as Yasuo's E? Like Xayah, whose Q is more about placing feathers and she mainly does dmg with the harvest? Like Kalista whose Q is as menancing as Yasuo's E and then mostly deals damage by accumulating and harvesting spears? Like Jinx whose Q is passive-swap, her traps as ignorable as damage as Yasuo's E and suddenly she has single damage ability?

His kit is much closer to Marksman than you put it, as it should, they are both ADC.

Doozku1 votes

For all intents and purposes, Yasuo's passive is a nerf late game. You don't need 100% crit chance late game especially as ADC. Yasuo gets 2 crit items for 100% which allows him to spike super hard in the mid game, but late game he is not comparable to an ADC in damage.

Like Lucian, who has just Q and his W is as damaging as Yasuo's E?

Like Lucian, who has a passive which allows him to get a second auto-attack off and lowers all his CDs so he can get more passive procs from spells, and his Q which gets him more passive procs which helps him get more Qs.

Like Xayah, whose Q is more about placing feathers and she mainly does dmg with the harvest?

Like Xayah, whose E can burst increadibly hard while also having a W which gives her a ton of extra on-hit damage and an attack speed steroid

Like Kalista whose Q is as menancing as Yasuo's E and then mostly deals damage by accumulating and harvesting spears?

Kalista's E is a way more powerful ability than you are giving it credit for, it's far stronger than Yasuo's Q. But Kalista doesn't even build crit and her kit is a mess.

Like Jinx whose Q is passive-swap, her traps as ignorable as damage as Yasuo's E and suddenly she has single damage ability?

Like Jinx, who has a massive attack speed buff from her passive, and her Q gives her another huge attack speed buff or the ability to get off huge AOE crits in a teamfight. Much more significant than Yasuo.

Sure if you let a Yasuo snowball, he will be devastating. Yasuo isn't a late game champ, he's a snowball champ with less of a focus on early game and more on mid game. If he snowballs he will probably dominate late game since he'll have way more gold than you and will be harder to kill; especially true if you have some kind of knockup so that Yasuo can get easy ults. But if yasuo falls behind, he's not going to be very useful unless you somehow let him catch back up.

Velzard of Koz1 votes

Like Lucian, who has a passive which allows him to get a second auto-attack off and lowers all his CDs so he can get more passive procs from spells, and his Q which gets him more passive procs which helps him get more Qs.

Lucian's Passive is as damaging as Yasuo's Passive. You forgot to mentoin the penalities the second attack has. And also it reduces all his cooldowns? I recommend reading what Lucian does, it only reduces the CD of his E, the non-damaging dash, it doesn't help his Q at all.

Like Xayah, whose E can burst increadibly hard while also having a W which gives her a ton of extra on-hit damage and an attack speed steroid

How is that relevant? You somehow managed to reduce Yasuo to "just one significant damaging ability", I just pointed out many ADCs are focused on on-hitting and one damage ability like Yasuo. From that point they are different. Yes, Xayah has AS steroid, where Yasuo has wall that can delete powerful ultimates, they both have their pros and cons. Also If you mean to reduce Yasuo to one damaging ability, compare the CD of that ability to Xayah's E, and also consider the fact it decreases with AS so he has no need for CDR.

Kalista's E is a way more powerful ability than you are giving it credit for, it's far stronger than Yasuo's Q. But Kalista doesn't even build crit and her kit is a mess.

Yasuo's crits and AS-based Q DPS is also way more powerful than you are giving ir credit for.

Like Jinx, who has a massive attack speed buff from her passive, and her Q gives her another huge attack speed buff or the ability to get off huge AOE crits in a teamfight. Much more significant than Yasuo.

Like Yasuo who can delete possibly all ultimates of one team? We all can exaggerate one's kit. They are both powerful in their own ways, I was responding to that "only one damaging ability". It's only one damaging ability alongside doubled crit chance, wall that block 80% abilities, having no resources, being hypermobile and having a suspend on ult.

Which is another thing. All of the above are limitied by Mana, Yasuo is not. Another compensation for the flaws he has.

Yeah, despite what many on the Boards think, an ADC that is behind and can be blown up by one rotation of one enemy also isn't going to be useful. That is description of many champion of many classes.

Cosnirak2 votes

You completely ignored that he gets to build more AD and/or lethality than typical ADCs because he only needs 50% crit from items, so no.

Doozku1 votes

Except that Yasuo doesn't do that. After his two crit items he usually builds survivability items like FM, GA, Bloodthirster, etc. When was the last time you've seen a Yasuo build Lethality?

Cosnirak2 votes

You say Yasuo doesn't build more AD instead of crit after his first two items because he builds items such as you listed, all of which are AD items... Just think about that for a moment.

Doozku1 votes

Of those items i listed, only bloodthirster gives a substantial amount of AD. The rest are not primary damage items.

Cosnirak1 votes

Yeah but BT gives 80 AD and is a very common build on him and regardless that's not the point. 30 and 40 AD is still more than 0, which is what zeal items give. And those 3 non crit items come with other benefits that often help you deal more damage in indirect ways.

Not having to build more than 50% crit from items to get 100% crit chance is absolutely an advantage in terms of scaling. Plus his Q crits and scales with attack speed, where as most ADC abilities do not. In total all this means he does not simply scale worse than ADCs despite the reduced damage from crits.

He might scale worse than some ADCs, I don't know. There isn't an exact math equation to prove one way or the other, especially when you consider stuff like range and stickiness, but it definitely isn't as simple as "crits for less, therefor scales worse."

But then you say:

So you're saying he... scales into carrying very powerfully, as in a hyper carry...

No.

You are, either willfully or through ignorance, confusing 'scaling' with 'hyper-carry scaling'. The two of them aren't the same.

For example, Renekton scales. Three out of his four abilities are augmented by his bonus AD, which means that his abilities are impacted.. but only by a single stat. His largest gains are from levelling and strengthening said abilities, which is why he has such a strong early game but falls off VERY hard around mid game when people begin completing numerous items. He scales but does so poorly, because the ONLY thing he scales with is ad (AP doesn't count) and somewhat with resistances, due to the large chunk of health he gains on ulting.

Opposite him, Shyvana also scales. Multiple abilities are effected by AD, AS allows her access to her ulti faster and also lets her proc her cinders debuff more often AND lowers the cooldown on her her Q which lets her proc more cinders and benefit more from ad and get her ulti faster.. She has marginal scaling with health due to the bonus resistances she gains from her ulti.

So while both champions scale they do so much differently.

Renekton scales but none of his scalings work with one another, he simply gains bonus damage on his abilities and that's it. As such the value of his stats remains the same throughout the game, it never goes up.

Meanwhile Shyvana's scaling loops. AD makes her abilities stronger, but then attack speed gives her more access to those abilities and also makes said abilities stay active longer / proc more damage / come off cooldown faster, which in turn makes AD more valuable because she's getting more autos and ability hits off, which makes attack speed valuable again.. Her scalings feed into and off of one another, with one stat making the other more valuable and vice versa depending on the stats she has.

This marks shyvana as a character who has powerful scaling but does not mark her as a hyper carry. The primary reason it doesn't mark her as a hyper carry is because, despite all this scaling, her ratios aren't powerful enough and she lacks an actual steroid.

Regardless, that sort of cycle is how melee (and hyper) carries function. Trynd, Yi, and Aatrox all have those strong scalings which form a feedback loop of sorts, and also come ready-made with various steroids they can call upon.

Now to Yasuo.

Yasuo scales harder than Shyvana. His double crit passive, his bonus armor pen on R, and his Q scaling with 100% of AD + a large chunk of attack speed, gives him strong damage potential.

However he's not at hyper carry levels. His lack of a ready-made and non-contextual steroid clips his wings so to speak, and even when you do factor in his R he just can't pump out the kind of damage which the other melee ADC's / ranged ADC hyper carries can. As such he's a skirmisher / light fighter who does have some strong scalings, but his own 'feedback loop' has various clear and intentional limitations (beyond 50% crit is wasted, Q eventually stops scaling with attack speed, R is only against BONUS armor) which prevent him from stepping into hyper carry territory.

In conclusion:

I recognize that buzzwords are what they are for a reason.

Calling a champion who beat you a "Toxic, anti-fun, hyper-scaling CertainlyT balance mistake with no counterplay" is favorite pass time of shitty players on boards. But at the end of the day those terms actually do have a meaning, and in a lot of cases the champions / aspects of the game to which they're ascribed do not even remotely fit that meaning.

Have some class, try to make an argument and defend your view point without resorting to over-done catch phrases and poo slinging. You might actually learn something, or even improve as a player.

Cosnirak1 votes

All that to deny your own use of "scale heavy." Ok man, you do you.

Almost, on release he had no magic resist scaling at all, to balance with his free shield. Then when they were handing out a little extra MR scaling to champs who didn't have any, they gave Yasuo 0.5 per level. They later buffed him to have 1.25, the same as almost every other melee champ.

Yasuo is a toxic champion though, but there are far worse. Usually those players will be extremely aggro even while losing, and you can make plays off of that mentality and cause the enemy team to tilt.

If your "trades" are lasting longer than 4 seconds then one of you probably should be dead in the current state of League.

To me, a "trade" in lane is - you go for a minion, I hit you once, you hit me once, we dance around each other then get back to last hitting. As you describe it... we sit and just auto-attack/face tank each other for a few seconds then I wonder why I'm outtraded by a Yasuo.
