I never see him anymore. Is he really that bad in this meta?

Nothing's wrong with Gnar but people rather play Trynda.

I love Gnar and I'd use him 100% if I were toplane still. Mini-Gnar kiting safe farming, it's great for top lane because 1 kill can turn the tide. Can easily escape those ganks. Then in teamfights you're an amazing tank with awesome CC

I would assume (well for me personally), I hate his "mini-game" rage. You have to micromanage your rage so much that if a team fight breaks out and you just managed to come out of mega-gnar you're pretty useless in a team fight, or if you can't build up enough rage to turn into mega-gnar in a significant amount of time during the team fight, you're also pretty useless.

I love the champ and my wife loves the champ, but as far as execution it's a PITA in team fights. If they'd make it to where you could trigger mega-gnar by only using an ability when your rage meter is full, I think you'd see him a lot more often.

Just my personal opinion.

Actually, I have found that if when I build Frozen Mallet, I can do a lot in mini form. The chase down is amazing and it helps for disengage if they try to jump you following mega. Land a couple slows and their tank line if they try and jump and you can kite away like nothing ever happened. Plus, let's say you just won a team fight but a couple enemies are limping away as you change to mini, you can chase them down and finish off the kill with the slows. I like Gnar and with many strong top laners being melee bruisers, I think he actually has a lot of favorable matchups in this meta.

Granted, a lot of the carry top laners will give Gnar trouble. Fiora is one. He mobility and her riposte hurt a lot of what Gnar is strong at. Olaf another, as when you are mega, all he has to do is pop his ultimate and you are basically useless. Haven't played Gnar into Quinn but logic tells me that would be pretty awful as well.

I still play him often and he's still very good. I usually play him when some one picks an annoying champion that I hate facing, so I return the favor and pick Gnar just to super bully them back. Usually I'd pick Gnar when they pick Nasus Riven Vladimir though I do still pick him some times when I'm picking first, because I don't really feel he has any really really bad counters...Sure some champions might be a little annoying to play against as Gnar but it's generally doable.
