Dr. Viktor, or How I Learned to Love the Atomic Deathray

Viktor is an interesting champion. His mechanics are seemingly powerful, but they turn out to be incredibly limiting in the long run. The irony is, of course, that his entire concept is one of unrivaled evolution and growth due to personal augmentation. I have come up with a fairly drastic rework that aims to make him the evolutionary master he set out to become.

The new upgrades will no longer take an item slot. Instead, they will be personalized buffs, similar to elixirs with unlimited duration. Whenever Viktor changes upgrades, half the cost of the upgrade he originally had is refunded. The pricing scheme works as follows: Phase 1 Upgrade = 1000g Phase 2 Upgrade same path = 1000g (2000g total)

So if Viktor goes from Phase 1 Death into Phase 2 Gravity, it will cost him a total of 2500g (1000 - 500 refund + 2000). Changing from a phase 2 into a different phase 2 would cost a total of 3000g, etc.

Here are the new abilities:

New Default Passive: Hexcore item 3200

Viktor has augmented himself with unparalleled Hexcore technology. This ingenious marvel analyzes threat patterns and adapts to better defend and act against those threats.

  • Whenever Viktor takes damage from a champion, large minion, or large monster, he gains a stacking buff of either 5 armor or magic resistance based on whatever damage type he took
  • Whenever Viktor deals non-damage-over-time damage to a champion, large minion, or large monster, he gains a stacking buff of either 5 armor reduction or 5 magic resistance reduction based on whether he dealt physical or magic damage
  • Whenever Viktor is out-of-combat for more than 5 seconds, he loses half (rounded up) of his buff stacks every 2 seconds. Re-entering combat prevents further loss of stacks

New Phase 1 Upgrade: Hexcore Upgrade: Death item 3198

Viktor modifies the learning algorithms of his Hexcore to focus more on optimizing methods of eliminating targets before they can pose a threat to vital systems.

  • Viktor no longer gains magic resistance or armor from his Hexcore
  • Death Ray deals an additional 30% damage as magic damage over 3 seconds, ticking once every 0.5 seconds
  • Champions kills made by Death Ray grant 2, while siege minions and large monsters killed with Death Ray grant Viktor a single Stack of Doom
  • Every Stack of Doom adds 0.05 seconds to the duration of his Death Ray's damage-over-time debuff (every 10 stacks adds a tick of damage)

New Phase 1 Upgrade: Hexcore Upgrade: Gravity item 3197

Viktor modifies the learning algorithms of his Hexcore to be pro-active instead of re-active to environmental stimuli. Specifically, he inputs relativistic formulas intended to better enable him to suppress obstacles before they are a threat.

  • Viktor no longer gains any stacking offensive or defensive bonuses from Hexcore
  • Viktor gains 10% cooldown reduction
  • Gravity Field's range and slow potency are increased by 33%
  • Gravity Field now stuns after only 2 stacks, and targets stunned by Gravity Field are pulled to the center of the trap
  • Every target stunned by Gravity Field returns mana to Viktor. Champions and large creatures restore 30 mana, while small minions and monsters return 15 mana.

New Phase 1 Upgrade: Hexcore Upgrade: Power item 3196

Viktor modifies his Hexcore to focus almost exclusively on defensive algorithms. This enables greatly increased survivability at the cost of offensive capability. Offensive power capacitors are re-purposed for repelling imminent threats.

  • Hexcore no longer grants armor reduction or magic resistance reduction
  • Power Transfer shields Viktor instantly instead of on-return and strength is increased by 30% (max value 135 + 0.35 AP)
  • Viktor's movement speed is increased by 30% for 3 seconds
  • Viktor gains 30% bonus tenacity while the shield is active
  • Power Transfer no longer has a cast time

New Phase 2 Upgrade: Death Storm item 3198

Viktor alters his Chaos Storm device to be a far more effective instrument of destruction

  • Chaos Storm reduces the magic resistance of targets under it by 10/15/20%
  • The base damage, not the AP ratio, of Chaos Storm's damage-over-time element is increased by 1% per 2 stacks of Doom

New Phase 2 Upgrade: Gravity Storm item 3197

Viktor alters his Chaos Storm device to effectively suppress any threats it discovers

  • Enemies inside of Chaos Storm gain stacks of Gravity Crush every half-second that linger for 1 second after leaving the Chaos Storm
  • Enemies with 3 stacks of Gravity Crush are pulled into the center of the storm for (1.5/1.75/2) seconds, during which time they are pulled along with the storm's movement

New Phase 2 Upgrade: Power Storm item 3196

Viktor alters his Chaos Storm device to bolster his team's defenses by draining his enemies offenses and vitality, but the duration is lowered to 5 seconds.

  • Champions inside of Chaos Storm gain stacks of Power Drain every half-second that linger until Chaos Storm expires (max 5 stacks)
  • Each stack of Power Drain on an enemy reduces that champion's damage by (5/8/10)%
  • If an enemy champion dies while it has Power Drain stacks, all allies within 400 units of that enemy are healed for (5/8/10)+0.01 AP life per stack. When Chaos Storm's duration expires, it gathers all remaining stacks of Power Drain and grants Viktor (10/15/20)+0.02 AP life per stack

His Phase 1 Death true damage ratio is a bit too high. I don't know his current ratios and base damages, but let's just say he does 600 damage (taking into account a shquishy champions mr). That death ray now does 800 damage. Also, he should lose stacks upon death, or he could hypothetically have a 30 second bonus. Or at least a cap on his stacks.

I'm assuming he gains movement speed from Power when he uses power transfer. 30% Tenacity is OP. The knock back should be maybe 75-100 units, or Melee champions will have a 60 second window to get on him and kill him unless they have two gap closers.

How long is the armor/mr reduction on Death Storm? 1% is too high. Maybe .5. Percent damage can deal a lot, and at only 10 stacks that will deal way too much damage.

The Gravity Storm pull is a bit OP. Unless they can somehow remove it, you just made Skarner ult the most pointless thing ever.

I do like most of these ideas, just some of the ratios need tweaking :)

Good comments! Let's see if they can be addressed:

His Phase 1 Death true damage ratio is a bit too high.

Currently, for 1k gold, Viktor gets 45 AP and 30% additional damage as magic damage over 4 seconds. I actually think with the resistance reductions Viktor has with this new kit, maybe it doesn't need to be true damage at all. So lets just scrap the true damage for now and keep it at 30% bonus, but over 3 seconds instead of 4.

Also, he should lose stacks upon death, or he could hypothetically have a 30 second bonus.

His scaling in death is not nearly as strong as Nasus' or Veigar's. Keep in mind he only gets stacks from: 1) champions/large minions/large monsters, and 2) that are killed directly with death ray. For a 30 second bonus, he would need 300 such kills with death ray. Lets say you have 15 champion kills and perfect farm for 35 minutes. You would have 38 stacks, or 7 ticks of damage granting 35% bonus damage on death ray over 3.5 more seconds. Is that too much? If so, I would think the answer would be for champions to give 2 stacks, large minions and monsters to give 1 stack, and then change it so each stack increases the duration by 0.05 seconds (so 10 stacks for 1 more tick at .5 sec).

I'm assuming he gains movement speed from Power when he uses power transfer. 30% Tenacity is OP.

It might not be. Remember that he only has tenacity while the shield is up, and the shield is still quite fragile even with the increased effectiveness. Most of the time, a single auto attack will probably remove the shield, so the tenacity will basically only factor in if he is, for example, being chased by Nunu and a frostbolt removes the shield (so he would reduce the frostbolt slow duration). The tenacity is really there to help Viktor be tanky vs ranged units.

The knock back should be maybe 75-100 units, or Melee champions will have a 60 second window to get on him and kill him unless they have two gap closers.

This is a rough one. I actually considered making it a very brief stun (like 0.25 sec or something along those lines). The other option I had was making the Power Transfer have no cast animation with this upgrade, so he can cast while moving. If I did that, I would just remove the reactive option completely. I feel like having a 75-100 unit knock-back might not be very helpful for a 1 minute cooldown -- with a lot of champions, if they attacked at point-blank range, it would not even take them out of attack range.

How long is the armor/mr reduction on Death Storm? 1% is too high. Maybe .5. Percent damage can deal a lot, and at only 10 stacks that will deal way too much damage.

I envisioned the death storm 10/15/20 reduction lasting only while they were actively under the storm. Also, the 1% bonus is only to the DOT damage on death storm, not the initial big hit. The base damage at max level for the dot is 80 + .26 AP per second, so in our previous scenario with perfect farm and 15 champ kills, you would be doing 110 + .36 AP per second. Noticeably higher, but not instant-melt. Maybe I should change it so that it only increases bonus base damage, though -- then the AP ratio stays the same.

The Gravity Storm pull is a bit OP. Unless they can somehow remove it, you just made Skarner ult the most pointless thing ever.

Skarner's is still far better CC. The Viktor ult has a few things going against it:

  1. People have 0.5 seconds to flash out of it or otherwise dash (after the 0.5 sec initial silence) and they won't even get stunned
  2. If it is not cast directly on top of someone, they can probably just run out in one second if they are on their toes, especially because . . .
  3. The farther Chaos Storm is from Viktor, the slower it moves -- if someone cannot escape and was running away from Viktor, he will not be able to pull them very close offensively. It is actually much stronger as a defensive/escape tool if he wants to try to drag people away from him while it has higher move speed.

Anyhow, this is the one point on which I disagree with you :-)

I feel like there should be a cap to how often he can gain stats through his passive. The way you have it worded now, if he buys Upgrade: Death and Liandry's he can very quickly gain a lot of magic penetration that his opponents might not be prepared for.

Good point, I meant for it to be non-damage-over-time effects. I'll fix that.
