Please auto-dodge if players don't have masteries in ranked

Nebuul··114 votes·4,724 views

If a player tries to start the match without all 30 mastery points spent, please auto-dodge the game as though that player left the lobby. Normals, fine. But ranked, there needs to be some guard against 0-mastery players.

There are people that go for interesting spreads like the 12-12-6, so don't be always quick to judge.

That's still 30 points though.

I suggested you connect lack of masteries with the absence of keystones that show up in the status tab, I had no idea you where one of those guys that use second party sites to dive deep into someone's masteries spread.

You mean a serious ranked player who wants to win? Honestly, if you're not taking advantage of those sites, you're crippling your potential.

GeorgeKnightRT7 votes

It's common to check out what division the other guy is but looking into more detailed and smaller things like runes, masteries and builds is something unusual and imo not that useful.

Pijips12 votes

funny you should say that, if anything the division of the enemy is the irrelevant part, and the thing that matters is their runes/masteries. knowledge of what they're running helps you to know how to play the lane. what rank they are doesn't mean anything.

GeorgeKnightRT3 votes

I highly doubt that, knowing if the enemy laner is a platinum+ and not another silver guy is very important for guys that don't enjoy the best kind of matchmaking consistency , An example i can bring out is deciding the starter item on champions like kassadin that rely heavily on having a smooth lane phase so they can have the good lategame they are supposed to have, going corrupting potion over dorans ring can be a waste of offensive potential if you lane against an inexperienced midlaner that doesn't know how to abuse kassadin early game weakness, from other hand going dorans ring over corrupting against a midlaner that knows what he is doing can turn out to be catastrophic, as for the masteries/runes, you can see most of them ingame with no need from a website but even so, knowing such in depth detail won't really matter in most cases , i mean i can't see how knowing that the enemy adc has +1.5 lifesteal from runes and picked up the bounty hunter mastery over the oppressor can actually effect your game decision making.

Swerzz4 votes

I mean, as a midlaner, I check there runes out because i like to know what i'm up against. Do the have any magic resist, No, well then i can poke and poke harder. Are they loading up on ability power, Yes, Then i'm gonna play a little more passive. Do they have a random rune page with no focus on anything, Yes, then i'm gonna assume you don't know what your doing.

Also, i like to check out there past match history. Are they on a losing streak, might they be on tilt, have they even played that champion before. If so, how good are they, do they farm well, there itemization, past lane matchups.

If you're givin access to these thing, you should use them. Even the little-ist of insight on your opponent will benifit you. Why not, if you don't think they'll help, at least you know that even if there underfarmed, that bandit mastery is the reason why they can afford there items.

GeorgeKnightRT2 votes

You can check if they have magic resist or almost any other important stat from runes in the champion description tab up left,

very few people play ranked with a champion they don't know and even fewer play ranked if they know they are on tilt, yeah there all those guys that don't realize they are tilted but those are a very rare sight, in any case knowing the rank of a given player is far more reliable and simpler way to get a rough estimation of how well he will play

SinnerMagnius4 votes

Very few people play ranked with champions they don't know? I'm not sure if we're playing the same game, you'd be amazed how many people pick champions they don't know well "because they're op" or they were recently released/reworked for example.

GeorgeKnightRT2 votes

There are people that could play new champs in normals with friends and such, but how many people would actually use a champion that just got released to win a ranked game?

Devo Hes1 votes

To be honest I assume most of higher rank (in ranked) do.

I'm now plat3 with only playing ranked for the last year but my normals mmr is so low I usually play against low bronze kids. Even though I'm new on the champion my substantial (in comparison) game knowledge I'll carry the game regardless. (Not to sound full of myself but I've done it a few times and it gives me a false sense. Ofc I'll usually go into a custom game and play till the 10minute mark but then I'll give it a shot in ranked if I feel that the champion is the best for the occasion.

GeorgeKnightRT1 votes

Many higher ranking people do use those , but usually those higher ranking dudes have been in the game for a while and have wide champion pool and game knowledge so its easier for them to transition and get used to new champions, and don't forget there is always pbe, people with pbe access can play and practice new champs long before they hit live.

Ranked play is about consistently making good decisions not just laning and winning vs a higher ranked player once in a while. If you have a guy demolish lane but then fail to understand his role in teamfights or how to play the map, he could still be ranked quite badly. Likewise, if you have a guy play amazingly every third game and like garbage the other two, he would also not be ranked well.

BTW: Normals don't count for anything and many high ranked players don't take them seriously either. It's rare that they would play their best champions and builds in such a situation.

Troll for Trump3 votes

No. It's not normals don't count for anything.

If you are one of those "chill bruh, it is just normals" people. No. It's still as fair of a game mode as ever. Otherwise I could AFK whenever I want, Troll, Int feed, or do whatever I want, because it's "just normals". I could go duo top and screw over the other top laner. I could pick ADC annie. I could go AP Darius. Normals isn't a freebie do whatever you want super casual mode.

It's not that it's unfair, it's that it's stupid to say you beat a Diamond/Plat. etc. when you did it in an unranked mode. It means absolutely nothing about your skill relative to theirs in that environment.

Troll for Trump1 votes

OK? So when did normals = not an indicator of skill? So if anyone were to go in normals and feed, should they not be flamed?(Well yes, they shouldn't as that would be toxic, but should they be "hated") When you play normals, and someone on your team messes up, don't you just think "omg this guy sucks"?

How about if a jgler just keeps diving and has poor cs? You say that guy is bad.

But if someone else does well... "omg it's just normals you lucker I could rek you with my main omg u tryhard you suck"

Basically, you only say ranked isn't an indicator of skill when it is in your favor.

I don't even play normals so it's not in my favor either way. If anything, people that don't play ranked often stick to normals so that they can get an inflated sense of skill and say "if only I played ranked, I'd be X."

It's possible to demonstrate skill in normals but showing a lack of it would be meaningless regarding one's actual level because people might be screwing around and trying new things. It should be obvious that an unranked mode can't be used as a basis for comparison to a ranked one.

Troll for Trump1 votes

Who said that people always try in ranked? People try to win in any game mode. You can't even say that people aren't trying. You don't know that. "A person is playing something offmeta, he is having fun in Normals". If a person plays something offmeta and does bad in ranked, instead of doing it in normals... "FKing troll omg lose troll report or I afk ggg etc." People don't do offmeta picks or not try in normals. Not often. People don't do it often in ranked. Ok, you play something like Kali top, or Ap trist mid. I'll give the benefit of the doubt that you aren't "trying". But if you play anything meta or that's not normal, and aren't blatantly griefing, than you are trying to win as much as you would in ranked.

They don't always try but it's more likely than in normals. It's the only mode where you are expected to give your best. Comparing between ranked and unranked play has no value. It's like saying you write better because your spelling and grammar are better than someone else's in a text. If you wanted to prove that, you should be looking at his essays, novels, etc.

Zecher2 votes

I strongly agree with Pijips. Player runes and masteries are far more useful knowledge than a player's rank. Are they running flat runes (more effective early game) or scaling runes (more effective later game)? Are they favoring penetration (better vs resistances) or flat damage (better vs health)? Which keystone masteries are they using? Are they going for glass cannon or unkillable tank? This is all much more relevant information when figuring out how to play with/against another player, whether they're an opponent or a teammate.

GeorgeKnightRT1 votes

i replied to him, unlike rank, you can get a pretty good idea of what runes the enemy is running through his champion description tab that appears on the top left of the screen, the most important masteries show up in game as well, either in status tab or you can just notice them if you pay some attention (feast hp refund, bescuit mastery icon etc..)

Zecher1 votes

I see where you're coming from. The nice thing about the 3rd party sites, though, is I can be researching all this information while the game is still loading rather than having to crunch it all while in game. I feel better prepared this way. These sites also present the info in a much more detailed manner than the small in-game champion stats window. You are also only able to view the enemies' stats if you have vision of them, so you won't know their stats right away. Oftentimes enemy stats will help me decide what my first purchase is, so it's good to know this stuff beforehand.

GeorgeKnightRT1 votes

ok then lemme use one of those sites for the sake of knowing who im talking to, so you play lots of braum/leona/cait , when was the last time you changed your starting item depending the enemy masteries ?

Zecher1 votes

I'd suggest checking match history instead of just top champs played. ;p No need to get personal anyway, I'm trying to have a productive discussion. Good night.

MetalGearTeemu2 votes

this knowledge can impact your first purchases where you would not be privy to this information normally.

in that it represents a very real and significant advantage.

DeathToEcchi1 votes

Some of the most important early stats, like ArPen and MPen, are not available knowledge in game. You also won't be able to tell if they've taken scaling or flat runes at first.

Well yea, that's why I play Rank: to increase my ranks & stuff through sterness & hardships. If I wanted fun, I'd go Normals. Simple as that. I don't even get what part of it you don't understand about it. Like, come on, I even listed that Riot would not have no reasons at all if they even set out two types of queues, namely Normals & Ranks.

EDIT: No comment huh. Thank you for understanding what I'm trying to say(finally)

If you want to have fun goofing off, then normals and ARAM are there for you. If you want to have fun competing then ranked is there. You should not do anything that purposefully trolls your team in ranked because it disrespects everyone else's efforts to climb ranks.

But what's the fine line? There is none. You can't say that that Heimerdinger support was trolling for certain; maybe he was trying his best. You can't discredit him for his pick; that's discriminating against someone's pick so you're effectively saying that the meta can't be defied or face reports. If he tried, he tried.

People that intentionally troll tend to go all out. If I forgot a single mastery point, I'm not necessarily a troll. If I play something you don't think is meta, I'm not necessarily a troll.

Nebuul9 votes

Now you are going for the slippery slope logical fallacy.

Edit: in ranked, you need all 30 mastery points to be as competitive as possible, and you 100% have access to them at that point. That's why my post is for masteries and not runes which players might not have. There is also exactly 0 discussion here about meta or anything like that. The fact is, if you go into the game without spending all your mastery points, then you are putting your team at a completely avoidable disadvantage, so you should dodge.

Tails Doll1 votes

The fact you actually need to be level 30 to even play ranked makes me think Riot actually wants you to play with Masteries on ranked. Hell, with new masteries, being 0-0-0 means you lost game, period. And none it's talking about offmeta picks.

If you pick Hei support and actually try then it's all fine and dandy, if you pick hei support and have no masteries, can you really say he is "trying"?

As a plat 5 player, I can beat all of my bronze friends without masteries. I guarantee you I can win 90% of match ups against them with no masteries. It's not hat big of a difference dude.
