Let's take a different Tack on this J4 issue.

J4 is classified as a tank. As it stands, what possible incentive does he have in his kit to actually build like a tank?

Short answer, none. He has no scaling off tank stats of any kind. None.

The latest patch only pushes Jarvan even further towards his Full AD build. Either declare him an assasin or give him a proper fucking patch.

Oh, I absolutely love going full AD J4 Assassin mid. Those mages never saw it coming when the Cataclysm just dunks them.

How does that make J4 a tank?

Yes, mid Jarvan can be a thing, but it's a thing that is in all respects worse than just going Zed.

Meh. I see that he has situation CC and tons of utility (and even a slowing shield), so he follows the older guidelines of being a tank.

He hasn't been a tank since they took the armor off his flag. That is the answer. Every single patch since has been forcing him towards his damage build. League has enough bullshit AD assasins who can kill you without a thought in the mid game and are useless in the end game. That has never been Jarvan's intended identity and it isn't the champion I have mained since season 2.

The AOE ult does incentive tank, or rather it requires it. If you're going to trap yourself with three enemies you better be able to handle the burst.

But I agree, it's so weird that his W has NO scaling.

No. You are 100% wrong. If it does MORE aoe damage, then I will not be trapped with the enemy, because the enemy will be dead. If they are not dead, then I will trap them, do a ton of damage and then flash or e/q AWAY, leaving them trapped and me free. In neither situation do I require a solitary defensive stat. I basically become a massive bomb to drop on team fights and then walk away to let my team finish it up, or not while I hydra all my hp back in the jungle. This is already the way that you play full AD Jarvan, Riot just makes it a little more effective.

That doesn't work for the same reason full damage Malphite doesn't transition into late game: If you get cc'd once you die.

Why does it have to. You win in the mid game.

I didn't say it was good, I was saying that's how it works. Damage Jarvan has never been good beyond gold. That's my entire point. This buff ONLY helps that play style. It is a bad buff. It does not help Jarvan to be Jarvan in the current game state.
