Rengar Balance Idea

Riot thinks rengar is one of the most toxic things in the league of legends right now.

I have 2 suggestions that i think would make balancing rengar much easier for them:

  1. make rengars brush-jump mechanic exclusive to his Q instead of making it on every single auto attack. this would give him much less absurd harass and mobility in the early game on top lane, which is where his brush jump is most abusive. it would also still allow him to leap on targets from stealth by activating his Q.

  2. remove empowered ferocity effects. being able to cast an ability twice in a row with no cooldown is an already absurdly powerful mechanic. he doesn't need extra powerful effects added on top of that. rengar does not need an extra powerful Q, he does not need a heal, and worst of all, he does not need a SNARE on his e-bola. his ranged snare is even worse than his no-cooldown brush jump in terms of its toxicity, and it's the main reason why it's referred to as e-bola. it gives people ebola.

Oh my god, you have absolutely no idea on what you're talking about. Rengar does not need a heal? How is he supposed to take jungle camps, he doesn't need a stun so now he can't actually kill someone because they can just run away. Play Rengar yourself and tell me how easy it is, especially because nobody ever wards the brush next to lane that works on Rengar 99% of the time he's there. His brush jump isn't even abusive, you have to go to a bush, find a target and auto, then go back to the bush if you want to do it again, his Q isn't an active ability, its just an auto attack that does more damage so its pretty much the same as auto'ing meaning there would be no way to detect if he has it on and can jump. While were at it let's just reduce Yasuo's Q range to his auto range, that's balanced. Also let's make Khazix only able to Q when an enemy is isolated. Like seriously man, you do not understand the concept of balance, Rengar isn't even close to OP, he's rarely played compared to junglers like Shyvana or Yi. He just got nerfed FFS.

Okay, lets get a few things straight.

His passive is what defines the champion. It takes a lot of time to master the bush jumping mechanic, and is only abusive if you don't know how to play around it. Getting outplayed by this mechanic is exactly that: O U T P L A Y E D. Making it only apply to Q would make him nearly unplayable, as it would remove the auto-attack reset from his kit while making him completely immobile.

Removing his passive would be like removing Katarina's passive: it would COMPLETELY DESTROY the champion, as their ENTIRE kit revolves around it functioning the way it does.

Alright, so why don't we just remove the Fury effects from Renekton? Or the heat effects from Rumble? WHEN THEIR MAIN SOURCE OF DAMAGE COMES FROM THEIR RESOURCE MECHANIC, REMOVING IT MAKES NO SENSE. The only reason he's able to deal damage AT ALL is because of his Ferocity. Just try to combo someone while ONLY using your basic 3 abilities, ESPECIALLY if you can't reset your auto-attack with your Q because of your stupid idea to only apply his passive to his Q.

His empowered effects give him SITUATIONAL benefits depending on what he wants to use. He can't use all 3 at once for obvious reasons, since you seem to be looking at them all at once.

Let's start with his Empowered Q. This gives him extra damage, another Q, and attack speed. This is strong for bursting someone, but if he isn't building glass-cannon it won't allow him to 1 shot someone. If he IS building glass cannon, and he uses this, he'll be vulnerable to getting bursted himself.

His Empowered W gives him a heal and extra resistances. Sounds great, except if he uses this, his damage is garbage because he has no AD and AA-Speed steroid and no extra Q.

His Empowered E gives him a snare (NOT A STUN), which is a dodgeable skillshot that has a relatively short range and decently slow travel-time. Unless he's landing this mid-air, it's pretty easy to dodge. If he IS landing this mid-air, he wont have enough damage left to burst you with, because (again) he has no AD and AA-Speed steroid and no extra Q. If this is your biggest problem, you can ask your support to buy a Mikael's Crucible or get a QSS and you will win easily.

BUT currently his E is completely bugged to go in some random direction whenever you try to cast it mid-air, so you shouldn't even be having this problem.

Honestly, either of your changes would gut Rengar to unplayability, with no regards to balance what-so-ever. Just because you got beat by a Rengar once or twice doesn't mean you know a single thing about changing him.

As a rengar being the champ with the most points in my champion points I know rengar. What I want you to do is go play rengar 5 or 10 games in a row learn rengar act as if you will main him Once you know rengar come back to this post and think about how much this would cripple him if all these nerfs happened to rengar he would be the worst champ in the game by far hands down. Please learn a champ before you talk about nerfing and balancing them

Lmfao this is one of the most ridicolous things I have ever heard. Removing his ability to jump from bush effectively kills the idea of the champion and lowers his skillcap by A TON.

Removing his Ferocity effects? Sure, as long as we remove Lee's second parts on his skills. Such an idiotoc idea, I have never heard anything this stupid.

Rengar currently has the worst winrate in normals and the 6th worst winrate in rankeds. Better gut him, eh?

On a second hand, Riot did think he was toxic but now that he got nerfed all he is is buggy. Fixing his bugs will result in a perfect nerf to the cat, I'm talking about those massive nerfs in 6.2, yes, they would be fair. Now with the nerfs they definitely aren't fair. Coming from a Rengar main with about 350.000 points on him atm.

I logged in on my phone specifically to reply to this.

I have nothing against you OP, but it's pretty clear you don't know anything about assassins in general. Most assassins rely on some sort of ability to kill their targets fast; Zedd's ultimate, Fizz's shark, Irelia's true damage and Akali's marks are all great examples.

Rengar's ability to assassinate a target doesn't rely on a single ability. Instead it requires you, the player, to execute a 6 to 7 ordered skills perfectly. The fun doesn't stop there though, Rengar is also countered by pink wards and true sight abilities, not to mention he has no real escape mechanism even if he manages to kill the target.

That being said, the only reason he's even a viable champion isn't because of his 100 to 0 combo... Riot made sure of that. What makes him a good champion is his potential to be played very well.

On the note of his brush leap: Did you know that Akali can dash to you almost indefinitely WITHOUT bushes? So can Kat if she kills her target. Dianna has two free dashes if you land moonlight on them. What's the pattern here? They all have requirements that need to be met in order to gap-close. Rengar's requirement is that he's in a bush, and in my opinion that's very limiting compared to most champions.

Lastly, empowered effects. I won't even begin to go into the reasons why removing this would kill Rengar permenantly. He would cease to be a jungler, he would cease to be an assassin and more importantly he would require 0 skill to play. I thought that's what we were trying to avoid here in League of Legends.

On a side note, there's this wonderful thing called "base damage". Rengar's skills are scaled lower than normal so that players need to CHOOSE which ability they empower, and if they make the wrong decision they need to wait for cooldowns to build ferocity again.

I would highly recommend you play Rengar and see how well you do. Let us know how you feel after trying to win 10 games with him.

Tgose changes would leave him far far below urgot or galio level

fraggleroc4/4/2016, 1:47:09 PM1 votes

It doesn't alleviate the fact that he is extremely obnoxious to new players who haven't confronted him much.

That IS bad game design PERIOD.

A team of 5 players have to change completely their playstyle to accommodate this one champion. It's like having to buy QSS and standing far away from Zed while laning to avoid his Qs... just so u can be viable against him. Sure, with practice, u will do well vs Rengar and Zed... but a single champ shouldn't be able to change completely and very drastically the way a team has to play when faced against him.

A new player basically will not even have time to process the damage Rengar dealt unto him until it's too late.

edit: Therefore I dubbed Rengar thee Cheese Kitty.
