Why does it matter whether or not you can see your honor progress

There are a lot of complaints about people being stuck at Honor 2 Checkpoint 1 and having no clue what is required in progression. The best answer to that I could find is that "its supposed to be a passive process, you get rewards for being a good person in general, not from working towards it." That makes zero sense. If ppl have an idea of what's required of them, they might actually try harder to get those honors that are needed, improving overall communication. That's just my thought. I feel like the Honor process is way too obscure. Then again, I'm a noob, so you have to tell me lol
