Arguments that Janna is too strong, not a circlejerk post

Good or bad argument? If it's bad, then poke holes in it. I have made threads regarding Janna's strength before, but I feel this post encompasses most of the argument so I am reposting it for visibility. I hope to promote discussion instead of a circle jerk.

First of all, I'm not a yolo zed yasuo diver. I play split pushers and tank support. But it shouldn't even matter what I'm playing... > > Second, Janna can turn the tide of a game with just one good ult. Janna and blitz do different things. But Janna is much more reliable and comes with no risk. I'd also argue she does it better than blitz but that's debatable. > > Third, if your adc is a potato you're not winning no matter what support you pick, so please don't act like having bad teammates is a Janna only weakness. Sure on blitzcrank you can go and camp your midlaner and leave your adc. You can also do the same with Janna and ensure that your midlaner scales into the late game by making sure he's safe. If your adc is a potato no amount of spoonfeeding will win the game. Having bad teammates is a weakness for every champion so we shouldn't consider it as a factor in comparisons. > > Fourth, according to you winrate is not a measure of power. It's just an indicator of how a champion is doing. My argument for this is okay, let's assume that you're right about that. That means Janna has been the best or close to the best support since her creation. In every meta. To me, that's indicative of a problem. When one champions outshines everything else for so long, it's obvious that champion is much stronger than the cast. You deny that Janna is too strong (btw don't use quotation marks to show you don't believe what you're saying, that's not what they're for), but then you turn around and say that all supports should be brought up to her level. This tells me that you know she's stronger than other supports. > > Fifth, yes I agree Janna is not fun to play as. Even when i save carries it's still pretty boring. Why should Janna remain strong just because she and other defensive supports are boring? Does that mean fun champions should be weak? Fallacy yes, but I'm very confused about this point. Isnt the ideal scenario this? All champs are viable at all MMR, and every champion is fun to play as and against. If this is the ideal, and we agree Janna is pretty boring to play as and against, then she needs changes to be closer to the ideal. > > Sixth, yes Janna is entirely reactionary. (Not really but enough so that I'll give you this one.) I think that reactionary champions should have a place in this game. There is a problem though, when reactionary champions absolutely beat out proactive champions without counterplay. Now I don't know if she absolutely blocks divers and assassins without counterplay, but if she does then it's a problem. There should be something an assassin or diver can do against Janna other than baiting out her ult, which only works on bad Jannas. Her consistently 50+% winrate leads me to believe that her reactionary abilities are in general stronger than other champions' proactive abilities, and that she lacks viable counterplay. > > Now there are three options. One, nerf Janna and introduce some counterplay such that she drops to a balanced winrate. Two, don't touch her. Three, give every support champion enough of a buff that Janna returns to 49-51% winrate, which I would say is a very balanced winrate. > > Personally I like the first option. It fixes the problem of Janna being too strong without being too complex. It can be done within one patch and with minor disruption to the meta. > > Here's a little suggestion. Nerf Janna's hp regen and nerf the duration of her shield. This forces Janna to time her shields better, and it means poke is a viable counter to Janna. If this lowers her winrate too much, then a small ratio buff on her q might be warranted.

Janna and Lulu need a rework. Way too easy to play and too much benefit of having one. Picking any of those two voids 60% of the roster.

Idk about a rework but just lowering the shield duration is a good start.

Wait how...? It seems to me like if tk goes aggro she just knocks him up, slows him and walks away?

She's been picked in pro play before in Cait/Janna comps

  1. most splitpushers and tanks are melee ofc, but the problem is, jannas weakness is poke poke poke, and you can never actually get close enough due to her unmatched peel and passive skeddadle. shes an anti all in support so it makes sense.

  2. that's because janna and blitz have 2 different play styles. one makes the plays, the other prevents the enemy from making theirs

  3. it is, but its more apparent on janna because she exists to peel, nothing more. when it comes to other champs, they can actually help carries get fed to get them back in the game

  4. WR has never been indicative of anything, its its correlation with play rate that tells anything. plus when it comes to A-B-C champs like this, its incredibly easy to win because their kits are just impossible to misplay.

  5. that's because other supports are exciting playmaking ones, but when you lock in ones like soraka or janna, you basically tell your ADC "meh.... you got this." because all you have to do is either keep them topped off making the enemys attempt at trading completely useless or keep them alive long enough for trades to not matter.

  6. the problem with reactionary champs is they cant do much on their own. in this specific case, you have to know that you have to run a pokier comp to force out her disengages super early

I'm only silver though, so feel free to take me as a grain of salt, but that's just my $0.02

Bro that "winrate isn't indicative of anything" argument is a steaming pile of bullshit. Are you telling me Janna isn't much better at winning than other supports?

I know that she is and i know you will also agree. So should she just be left alone even though winning on her is easier than on most champions?

I did NOT say it was completely useless. I mean on its OWN it means nothing. a champ can have a high winrate if not a lot of people play it due to not having a large enough sample size, which is why when people cite winrate, they usually cite playrate too.

janna is at the top of the ladder, and nowhere did I disagree, just don't misinterpret my arguement

On it's OWN it tells you how often a champion is winning. It is the single MOST IMPORTANT indicator of champion balance that we have.

I don't need to cite play rate for a champion that's had a positive winrate since its creation.
