Riot, next season has to be better

Hey riot.

On his most recent patch rundown, Phreak said you guys are starting to work hard on your changes for next season. Well, you really need to take this one message to heart: next season has to be better. Letting league stay this bad or letting it get worse can't be an option for you guys. You have to get things right.

I don't think I've see as many complaints about how bad a season was before this year. Don't get me wrong, it's never been perfect, but I don't remember it being this bad either. Sure there might have been champs complained about, but the strongest champ usually has gameplay screaming for it to be nerfed. Yeah one lane here or there might have been bad, but there wasn't a case where the jungle and bot was bad, battlelanes can't be played in mid lane at all, and top... well top's always been the redheaded step child. Let's be honest, the gameplay balance of this season has been terrible. It's been one thing after another and we the players need a rest where league is fun again and the problems we are complaining about are relatively minor.

I'm starting to wonder if limiting yourself to 2 times a year to do any sort of real updates is an issue. I'm not sure sitting back and letting things persist until the next main update window is the best course of actions just because of how long it is between those windows. At the very least you need to add 2 more windows so if problems persist or come up, you've got more opportunities to fix them or at least iterate on them.

They know the game has to be better next season. The question is whether they understand how to do that. If this last season is any indication, they don't.

See the thing with memory is, it's completely inaccurate, and we always tend to look back and see the positive while only seeing the negative in our current situations.

I've been playing for 4 years, and IMO the game is in the best state it's been for those 4 years. I have never seen this much diversity and flexibility in all roles. There's been a couple OP champs, but I believe that, over all, the last few months have been the most relatively balanced that I've ever played in. It's nice not having a pure tank, or pure assassin, or pure mage meta, as has happened several times in the last couple years (looking at you Cinderhulk). Consequently, it's nice not being forced into playing a certain type of champ (at least as a jungler). It's also nice not having any one role be seemingly much more OP or "carryable" than others.

You might disagree with all of the above, and as a jungle main I'm obviously somewhat biased towards the role. And yes, there will always be some level of toxic players, OP champs, OP items, etc . since the game is massive and we don't live in a perfect world. But despite all the seemingly mounting negativity everyone keeps mentioning, I really do believe League is in the best spot it's ever been, and will only continue to get better.

Why is Riot so hellbent on making LoL such a kill fest? Is it because of Overwatch, Fortnite and other battle royale games' rise in popularity?

Part of me wants to say yes. Part of me wants to say they did it to make LCS viewing more interesting.

I think the biggest problem with league right now is the community. The toxicity, the trolls, the feeders that are just there to ruin the game for their team. There are balance issues and such, yes, but those will always exist. It's the nature of the game. If someone is way too powerful, they'll get pruned back eventually, until then a simple ban will take care of them. I'd like to see a change in the rank system though, just in solo/duo, and only up to gold or plat. Change it into a solo rank, basing climbing on something like the grade system. If you do well, it counts as a win regardless of the game result. Doing poorly results in a loss. Then maybe higher ranks would be consistently better players that don't decide to see how fast the they can get the enemy Rengar to 20 kills, and can play as a team. Yeah, there'd still be some issues, that will never change. But maybe they'd be more acceptable.

During preseason, I knew i was going to hate it and that the game would go downhill.

And i was right. I haven't played a game since January, and every time i try to come back, its the same 'ol problems as before. I really do hope they fix this game.

Everyone says this has been the worst season. I disagree, season 6 is still at the top with Dyanmic Que. It was also the first season to open the flood gates of balance issues. Keystone Masteries began the whole huge balance issues we have today. Role selection caused a ton of issues because no one wanted to play support, and those who qued full or support secondary were always support, burning out support players and caused more grief. Took a while for people to eat the necessary auto-fill. That or they just left. However that season didn't have any bad horrible meta thankfully.

In terms of Meta I'll take this burst 1 shot Meta over that damnable cursed Season 7 Argent Cancer Meta any time and day. Want to ruin 8 peoples' game over 2 people? Want to feel useless unless you are bot lane ADC? Want to be forcefully support in any lane, the role everyone despises? Then Argent Cancer Meta is for you.

Having said that this season has been bad with bad metas. Wouldn't call it the worst but definately bad. The biggest issue of this season is the fact that it followed 2 other horrible seasons. Take Blizzard as an example and that they did something right and good. Riot ironically mirrors Blizzard in a lot of ways with World of Warcraft, added irony that both companies had Ghostcrawler. World of Warcraft had two pretty bad expansions, at least $ and number wise, Mists of Pandaria, and most of all Warlords of Draenor. However Blizzard got their shit together and created Legion which not only let them jumped the shark, but bounced them right back to a great spot.

Riot right now needs to do the same thing Blizzard did, Season 9 needs to not only make them jump the shark, but bounce right back. Especially with Overwatch, Heroes of the Storm, Fortnite, and PubG running around. Most of them may not be MOBAs but they can take in customers from other games.

Someone that reads the flow of the seasons. GOSU

While i don't like this one shot with no items meta; I do agree that Keystones is when most of the problems started. Giving every champion hybrid damage.

Removing runes ( old runes ) was the last nail in the coffin. The game is out of control now and it isn't fun because there is no deep strategy. Its just bronze burst fests.

It does seem indeed that removal of old runes was the last nail in the coffin. Every balance seemed to go out of way out of whack all the way from season 6.

So much whining. They should fix the matching system if anything.

Personally, it is my favorite season so far. I love how games are faster and have more action. Ok some champs need to be balanced on both ends of the scale, but it's unavoidable regarding how much things changed.

PS: How many of the complaints are from marksmen? I guess it's around 50%.
