Soraka - The Support Who Needs A Support

To begin, I believe that teams still do not understand how to back the new Raka, falling back instead of engaging when the field of endless silence finds its mark on most of the enemy team. That is a mistake on the team's knowledge. Along the same lines, in lane, without an aggressive adc pushing the enemy's support back, said support can snag Raka and she has nowhere to go. Ideally, when snagged by the enemy you would silence the threat, heal off a poke, and try to simply back away. In practice, however, both of those abilities are on cooldown from poking (something the adc isn't doing). The opposing support moves in on that moment when the long cooldowns and mana costs (early game) have taken their toll, and they know the adc has no power to stop them.

In short, New Raka is so heavily dependent on her adc in lane and team past that phase that, to me personally, she has lost ability to be her own entity. If there is not enough assistance, she will die. Truly, in my experiences, a non-aggressive adc who prioritizes farm instead of countering enemy farm (more common than I wish it was) always leads to the death of Raka and inevitable loss of lane. With other supports such as Sona or Nami, they can make an impact even without their adc or team cooperating. Have you ever taken a mid-game Sona Q/Sheen combo? That's nothing to laugh at. Focusing on Sona, she can march in, Q, E away from harm, and keep coming back for more; she can escape unlike Raka.

In game, I feel as though Raka needs her own personal Leona on standby. Now I'm opening this up: what flexible play have you found with Raka in cases of a lackluster adc? I believe in some potential of this new Raka, but I simply have not found it on my own. Mention runes and build if you have found anything particularly effective for early and mid game. None of my teams have survived to end-game while I am using Raka, and I want to help them get there even if some of them don't deserve to make it that far.

Thanks for your time, I know you've all read stuff similar to this already, but I could not find a nice thread which was helpful instead of everyone insulting each other. Please, be civil!

This is why you should communicate with your ADC. As an ADC - if I'm going to go all aggressive

Varus Ahem...

I want to have Soraka to constantly heal me in my assault and combo wombo with her silence and AoE slow field while I ult snare my enemy ADC and prevent them from escaping or using other skills as I pick them off. Soraka's new kit is strange I know - but I really like its source of aggressiveness. With Soraka being my offensive heal, I can generally whop out damage without being penalized and yes, I understand Soraka also needs protection but that's Soraka's own worry. She's healing me out of her own will and her Q is supposed to help offset the heal cost.

Just a heads up that heal is on almost a three times as long CD than her Q. That's 30% of her maximum HP gone to heal you while getting very little in return, especially if she only hits one of two targets, or in worst case scenario, misses both.

Soraka also heals per champion hit and increases the heal by the percent that she has lost. It has a slow. It also does 150% damage to targets who are slowed by it giving really good damage. Her Aoe silence also has remarkable base damage and can be used through minions with no pushing penalty. Her Area of protection is remarkably high. You need to try to miss both.

She may lose 30% of her health, but realistically, if you are getting targeted, you'll die anyway as soraka. The goal is to keep your damage dealer alive.

She's actually in a decent place now. Nami does more damage and obviously more cc for a team. But Sona has lower stats and has a longer cd on her heal. She's actually much easier to kill regardless of the fact that Soraka kills herself slowly.

In gold I've had no issues with her (Sole exception being Zyra).

Soraka only does the 150% damage if they're in the sweet spot (middle) - not if they're slowed. Yes the AOE silence does have nice base damage however if you're maxing that, then you're not maxing heal. If you're maxing heal, you're going to be targeted first, because after two heals she's lost quite a bit of health and it's easy enough to target swap and burst her.

You don't even need to outsustain her, because minimal trades go in your favor if you get any sort of respectable damage done. She has no escapes, no legitimate peel. If they decide to all in your carry, that's it. That silence is only going so far and if you throw it anywhere except right on top of you after they gap close, well...

I'm not saying she's bad, but there's a lot more supports that are outclassing her pretty hard right now.

Soraka's slow only takes place in the center of her Q. So if you are slowed then you take the 150%, and vice versa, if you are hit by 150% then you are slowed.

People have this misunderstanding that it's very simple to just dive her. But no champion has the ability to target the ADC and damage them enough to warrant healing and then the ability to cc chain and burst a secondary target. Leona is the only one and it's very unlikely that she will switch targets.

Late game teamfights are the only point where she becomes a huge cautionary target. But then she has tools to protect herself. Again, if someone is going out of their way to kill her, then they are not focusing on the damage of their team.

Nami is the only healer who is flat out better in nearly every situation than Soraka, with the exception of burst healing or wrecking Ryze.

Her Starcall has more range than a lot of abilities, and the hitbox is not accurate because it hits outside sometimes also. I don't think Soraka is completely outclassed by anyone trying to fulfill her role.

And in exchange for 30% of your HP you just healed your ally 360/450/540/630/720 + (180% AP) of theirs. That is a huge amount of healing that can easily change fights in your favor.

You're poking with your E? There is your problem.

Also... Whats this? A support is dependant on the team as much as the team depends on her? That's good design, not bad design.

In lane, play passively and poke with Q (Don't run oom.) to heal yourself when needed. Heal your ADC when they need it. Don't use Wish until an ally (Or more than one ally) are under 40%. Don't use your E to poke, noob. Use it to mess up the enemy support/adc's flow, so they can't finish a combo. Cast it on an ally if you know they're gonna get dove.

Spam W and throw Q on clustered champions, use E on their caster, save R for when it will make the most impact. Try not to get focused.
