How Ranked SHOULD Work (IMO)

What if, just bear with me here, WHAT IF, you could get to Gold 5 before you had to worry about how your teammates play? Like bronze and silver was nothing more than a proving ground for players before they TRULY played competitively with their team against another?

Lets just sit here and think about how it could work, eh?

Already, you are rated on how you play your champion with your peers correct? Now imagine it uses the same system that checks your CS/per minute, KDA, and vision placement to give you a rating that tells you can go on to the next rank one step at a time after checking it against all other players in your meta and having a baseline?

It would completely eradicate the whole "Muh Team" complainers. It would also make trolls completely unable to impact other peoples ranking in the lowest tiers of ranked. It would also encourage players to self improve on their individual play to earn their way up. It would reduce toxicity to an extent, and best of all. Once you hit gold 5 it would immediately switch to how you perform with your team and win games.

This kind of change would only affect those in the lowest elo's, it would eradicate so many issues those players complain about and introduce a new system into league that would improve those players basic play. And lets face it, even gold players lack some fundamental skills, cause if they didn't, they'd be higher up.

As a bonus it'd be great to see the results after each game and use those stats to see where you need improvement.

(This is nothing more than a dumb idea that popped into my head reading the low elo complaints, mostly its just so people can stop blaming their team whether its their teammates or not. I definitely don't expect this to be taken all that seriously, just an interesting idea. Leave your own thoughts down below. I'll respond.)

interesting idea.. im not sure how it would work though.. in theory its sounds great. but in practice it could prove problematic. if riot had a system that could accurately measure skill good enough for this to work, then it should be implemented on all elos anyways... not just bronze and silver.

the mastery system comes close but still isn't really quite good enough.

the idea is great.. but i think being able to actually implement it would be next to impossible

A system like what you're suggesting would teach players some pretty crappy habits.

It's simple really. In a system that rewards only winning the game, players are incentivized to make decisions that will lead to winning the game. In a system that rewards various statistics, players are incentivized to make decisions that will lead to padding those stats. Take for example the situation where you are down a few kills, down a few towers, behind several thousand gold, and the enemy has set up to do Baron. At this point, you're losing by a small amount, but the game is still winnable. I'd give you odds at maybe 40/60.

In a system that rewards only winning, the best decision is usually to try to contest or steal Baron, as even though you're losing, a free Baron for the enemy would almost certainly seal your fate. However, in a system where CS play a positive factor in ranking up and deaths play a negative factor, the incentivized strategy is actually to just stay as far away from Baron as possible and try to raise your CS score at bot, since you are likely to lose, and want to pad your stats before you do.

This is just one of many many examples.
