Overly Oppressive Champions

There are just some champions that do too well at shutting their opponent down in lane, but there are some champions that are just too oppression just by their sheer presence. Yes, there are quite a few champions that can force their opponents out of lane if the player is skilled. But what I am speaking of, are the champions that do basic actions that automatically give them complete control.

A few of these champions are Azir, Blitzcrank, and Darius.

Azir automatically has control of his lane due to him having so much early game damage and range over all his opponents. Simply by throwing a single sand soldier towards the center of the minions will keep any melee champion from farming, and moving while it may be a little more difficult, he can keep ranged champions from farming as well with decent positioning of his soldiers.

Blitzcrank is considered to be one of if not the MOST cancerous support in the game, as a simple Q is nearly certain death to anyone who doesn't burn flash. Just knowing that the enemy has a blitzcrank keeps you from moving up and targeting the enemy ADC, an example of a champions presence being too oppressive.

Darius is one of the juggernauts, so he is automatically tanky with tons of damage potential. He may be slow, but he can afford this as he trades his movement speed for a pull. Combine this with his insane sustain with low cooldown that comes from his Q, as well as his passive that increases his AD exponentially and bleeds out opponents. He is a massive threat in lane that will keep you from farming and will consistently force you out of lane.

Now, before people begin commenting how each champion can be dealt with if you pick specific champions, I would like to say that I shouldn't be forced to pick a champion from a limited pool of 3-6 champions just because my opponent is cancerous. I should be able to play champions I enjoy while being able to out-play that opponent. I could understand if I pick a champion that is countered by my opponent, but otherwise, its ridiculous.

I personally believe each of these champions need something done to them to give their opponents a chance to out-play them without just counter-picking them.

Are you questioning the existence of lane bullies?

SymbolicFear1 votes

There is a difference between being a lane bully and AUTO-WINNING lane. There should be the ability to counter-play EVERY champion. Otherwise, that champion is too strong and needs to be looked at. No game should be determined simply by champ select.

lane bullies's counterplay are teamfights. Intended.

With the exception of darius

Exactly, which is why I didn't state LANE BULLIES as being overly oppression, but singular champions.

You want to play any champ you want whenever? Then your not playing the right game. Counters are based of their kit. Like Leo counters blitz. None of those champs own a lane easily.

Its not that I want to play any champion I want. I take into account counters are a huge part of this game. But when you champion doesn't counter nor is countered, you should have a chance.

If you don't have a chance then your countered. Azir doesn't counter any range champs, it's just skill based. Blitz is a noob champ that doesn't counter anyone but is easily countered by a lot of champs. Darius was shown to be weak in worlds.

There is no champ that just insta wins lane. There is just different levels of counter and countered.

There is a few problems with what you say.

Darius is very strong, and he even got a penta-kill in worlds. If he was shown to be really weak in worlds, they wouldn't have scheduled a very huge nerf on him that will take away the % health heal. He currently auto-wins lanes unless the enemy team handi-caps themselves by picking Quinn top or such.

Blitzcrank is a noob champ, that is agreed, as he is overly simple (land your Q, E, then ult, insta-kill) but we aren't talking about just simply beating the champion. We are stating that he is OPPRESSIVE, meaning his threat is too high compared to your own, where that champion can easily shut you out of your own lane be preventing you from getting farm and such.

blitzcrank in general is pretty op regardless how he is built. straight ad u 1 shot squishies, straight ap u 1 shot most champs, supp a lucky grab and u win the game. his e is liek the strongest non ult move in the game

His Q is his pull...

Darius is easily handled in lane if you don't first pick Nasus or think Teemo is an acceptable counter to him

Like.. he's not even that bad in lane. It's teamfights where it's harder to keep track of who he's stacking on and where he gets resets that he's actually hard to manage.

Teemo definitely doesn't counter him. But the issue is, Darius almost always wins his lane unless he is going against a hard counter, like Fiora (cause lets face it, Fiora counters everyone) or Quinn. Wukong, Gangplank, Riven, Garen, anyone who is not ranged auto-matically loses to Darius, and even in that case, like you stated Teemo loses in lane as well. Its very difficult to deal with a Darius, especially when the Darius player knows just how strong Darius is and capitalizes on that by constantly oppressing his opponent.

Fiora doesn't counter Pantheon.

SymbolicFear1 votes

Eh, its more of a skill match-up at that point. I have beaten many Pantheon's as Fiora just because I was being a bit safer and timing my attacks appropriately, that way, I was never wasting any abilities on his shields and always keeping myself at least 3/4 of my health to prevent him from instantly bursting me down. It is harder, but doing it correctly will mean victory for Fiora. The main thing is saving your W for that final Q he will throw to kill you. That will turn the tide of the fight...

Ralanr1 votes

Ok, I've never lost against a Fiora as Pantheon. Though I may have not played good Fiora players.

SymbolicFear1 votes

Fiora has always been a personal favorite of mine since before the rework. After the rework, I refuse to play her in ranked just because of the fact that she is just too strong and overplayed. Though, her new kit does allow a lot more outplay potential and helps massively towards fighting against cancerous top laners like Lee Sin or Darius. I just played against a Lee Sin top lane the other day, and he was so salty cause I would just counter his Q when he dashed, and then dashed over and popped my passive on him repeatedly. He left my lane and let me take both outer turrets before coming back, at which time I simply deleted him due to my free farm.

Reason why I play Pantheon actually, personal favorite. I mainly play champions I find fun, that usually revolves around their kit and story. I ended up picking Kassadin on a smurf and his ult and E are so much fun to use.

The day I get called out for picking OP champions is the day I say, "I own Darius. I don't play him. Your move."

Big Lincoln1 votes

Renekton beats him pretty handily.

I've also struggled with Olaf and safe Gangplanks. He can be very slippery with barrels and his MS buffs and slows. Riven is definitely able to outplay him.

Any more nerfs at this point would require compensation to other areas of his kit.

SymbolicFear1 votes

The thing about Darius is that he can pull you and had a 90% slow, with gangplank he can eat an orange and be out of there, but when a Darius does it smart, he will just repeatedly harass the gangplank till he is out of mana and is either forced to back or dies. Like I said, this isn't just about beating your opponent, its about how they can shut you down and prevent you from doing much.

Yorick

SymbolicFear1 votes

Are you trying to say that Yorick is overly oppressive or what?

Ralanr1 votes

He always wins lane.

Baunjo1 votes

Oh contrare. I just shit on a yorick a few days ago.

Ralanr1 votes

I've just heard that he's a wall in lane. Who'd you play as?

Baunjo1 votes

Riven. I have done it with Lee sin as well, and I believe garen or xin zhao
