A Quick Follow Up on Criticism in League

Well that thread blew the fuck up.

So you might see this post on the top thread and go "Oh hey you're that salty fuck". And yes, I was quite salty. That said, there are some clear misconceptions about what people think about criticism in league and how it should be handled. With this in mind, I felt the best way to address it was with a neat little graph detailing my own personal idea on handling criticism and the type of response you get to it.

#Karma: A Cohesive Team

In this situation, there's actionable feedback and people are actually being useful for each other.

Karma Hey, listen, you're kind of behind so try to farm the jungle for now. We'll make do until you're back up. LeeSin That's a good idea. I'll stick to the jungle for now and gank when I'm around the same level.

  • Actionable feedback/recommendation.
  • Understanding and not being a shitter.
  • The person who is behind isn't made into a scapegoat while promising to improve their play.

#Camille: Scapegoat Galore.

Caitlyn Sorry, I'm new to Caitlyn and working on my CS. Camille LMAO useless fucking adc cant even last hit

  • Feedback that goes nowhere.
  • Person who is behind stays behind.
  • Nothing gets accomplished save for the "advisor" saving their fragile ego.

#Tryndamere: The Smurf

Sejuani Can you not extend so much? You're not really securing much. Tryndamere whatever fuckhead. you guys just dont want to be carried

  • Feedback that is ignored.
  • Person who stays behind actively hinders their team.
  • Basically makes everyone hate this one person.

#Yasuo: A fucking disaster.

MasterYi LOL SHIT MIDLANER FED SEVEN KILLS Yasuo yah after you gave fb you fuck MasterYi kys kid, stop talking Yasuo smh silvers think they're good Enemy Double Kill VICIOUSLY SPAMMING MISSING PINGS ON CORPSES

In reference to my original post, I was mostly referring to Camille situations where someone doesn't provide good, if any, feedback. I wasn't saying that "LEAGUE SHOULD BE A SAFE SPACE WHERE NOBODY CRITICIZES ANYONE ELSE EVER", despite those who liked to make the argument that it was childish to ask for such. Just as I did with my previous post, there SHOULD be instances where someone who is doing poorly gets criticized and pushed toward improving. Of course, if they just reject your criticism, they're really no better than the previous guy.

I hope that clears up what I meant so the comments section of that post can stop being a shitpit of people arguing about if it's right to criticize anyone.

Can we not play the "Person who plays champion X behaves like ** this**" game?

Because as a Riven main, I legit can't win here. No matter how pleasant I try to be in game, someone will always assume I'm going to be toxic or feed first blood then afk just because I happen to be playing her.

Well if the act of locking in Riven didn't unwillingly and permanently turn on caps lock for the rest of the match, and cause mysterious disconnections during games, people wouldn't question the champ pick.

Yasuo Tell me about it...

Nice summoner name by the way. Curious, is it a very indirect reference to Riven being that she shares an English voice actor with Noel or are you just a Blazblue fan? Cool either way.

Both, actually. Noel happened to be my main in when I picked up Blazblue way back in 2009 already (Yeesh, where did the time go) and a few months after I picked up Riven here in league, I discovered they shared the same voice actress, which was a pleasant surprise.

I also really like my name when I play Varus because "Bow of the Devil" fits him perfectly.

Is it fair if I assume that everybody in my game that isn't my friend And also my friends is a toxic bag of garbage until they prove otherwise? Because like, I make Riven and Yasuo main jokes all the time, but I don't single them out in game at least. Another reason to not want voice comms, I don't want to forget my mic on and tilt people in champ select by cracking mean jokes.

pretty sure it'd be push to talk

sorry but when from the 100 rivens the 98 are trolls sure as hell the 2 ones would need to accept the shitstorm that comes on them

I always ban riven or yasuo when they picked as wanted champion for one of my teammates

why? simple because i know that they will feed and maybe its not 100% sure but its 98% and in plat elo you dont get that risk you just ban it

Just say "Hey man, I only play her because I want to hit those sweet Type 3 Chain Revolver Broken Wings."

In all seriousness though, Riven is one of very few fighter champions who is terrible when she builds tank (Renekton and Darius can do something if they're 0/4 but they get a Sunfire). Unlike most skirmisher champs, people don't usually build her with critical strike (so unlike Yas and Yi she can't farm up and become a monster). So there are some, not all, Riven players who give up and AFK if they fall too behind.

Pff. That's exactly what a toxic Riven player would say. Lol.

It's sad that people can't do something as simple as talk this

Then again, support mains are believed to have one of the best morale in the game.

But still, there are good supports that just give advice to their team, good peel and heal/shields/buffs/debuffs/cc, and then there are Thresh or Soraka players who spam /surrender and FF in chat and will AFK if we don't.

It's not like Thresh will always be a disaster with bad behavior, but most of them are. Just like our typical Vayne/Yasuo who goes 1v5 flashing mastery icon and ends up 1/13.

But... Aren't ionians hypocrites that for the sake of "balance" start and end wars as they please? Isn't this why zed started his rebellion?

ABlueQuaker1 votes

Yeah, I'm pretty much at the point where I have to blanket-mute pings because people use them in an extremely toxic manner and Riot refuses to allow us to mute pings by player.

I generally just don't say anything in-game aside from positive things - not even suggestions because it's so easy for some tilted/toxic player to use you as a proverbial punching bag.

Nicely summarized examples of some different types of feedback. Now the trick is to get people to understand that players who feed due to ignoring simple logical advice and/or flame teammate(s) for saying something helpful need a punishment - warning, demotion, ban, restriction. Tired of trying to be the karma to stop my teammates from REPEATING the same "mistakes" all game long... so they don't leave lane 0/6/0. Only to have my teammates be tryndamere and yasuo back to me, then spam "toxic" at me until they get my team to all say that I'm a toxic selfish player. If you don't want to ward, if you don't want to stop forcing engages 2v2 vs people you already gave 3 kills to while you have 0, then get out of ranked and play pve.
