Keystones, Pre-match Set ups and Illaoi

Which ones are you using / Think are best for her?

I currently have 50 games played with Illaoi on ranked from Gold V (Placements) to Diamond V, I decided to main her BUT I'm still figuring out the perfect set up for her. I've found good set ups, but the perfect one evades me. I think she can be better. I'm sure she can.

Currently "Most used" in champion.gg is Grasp of the Undying. i feel people are only picking this one because It's the only usable option on the Resolve tree. But I don't think It's optimal and let me explain why:

  1. Illaoi's laning phase doesn't involve much melee trading with her opponent. It's mostly Q and E harass. Melee as her usually involves a trade with participation of the Tentacles, which already heal her.

  2. She doesn't have the buff up most of the time, as it forces you to either deal or take damage. Illaoi lanes like a mage, you only use basic attacks to last hit, not to push, and her Q/W are used to control the minion flow. In teamfights, you either decimate the enemy team so quickly you maybe MAYBE get one Grasp of the Undying proc before people start running away in panic, otherwise you die so quickly under the focus of 5 and Don't get any use of it.

  3. Illaoi is terrible at sticking to a target. She's more a wall than a pursuer, she won't be hitting things all the time. This severely decreases how useful Grasp is for her.

Strenght of the ages is the one I like the most in the Resolve tree, but it takes too long to stack outside of the jungle. But when charged, It's much more noticeable than Grasp.

Thunderlord's synergizes well with her kit and playstyle. Short, strong explosions of damage.

Stormraider's is very easy to proc as her, but since her kit is made to exist around one small zone of power, picking something that encourages you to chase is not very good.

Fervor is flat out bad on her, she has the third slowest base AS in the game, she doesn't build it, and her kit encourages her to autoatack only as a filler and for W proc.

Deathfire actually reaches very high numbers Illaoi's builds involve quite a bit of AD, but she benefits more from quick fights, rather than prolonged ones.

I'm currently divided between Grasp, Strenght, Thunderlord's and Deathfire. Mostly siding with Strenght and Thunderlord's.

Please post your opinions/experiences

I actually go 12/18/0 for her. She gets tanky, though I think going into the resolve tree sacrifices too much damage, which is the only thing you're supposed to do as her since you bring zero utility to a team. I think Thunderlord's is terrible on her because of it proccing on the spirit early levels and only doing roughly 30 damage (which is incredibly low for a 25 second CD). I like to run Storm Raider's surge, which is very easy to proc with her, it helps give her sticking potential and the ability to easily dodge incoming spells.
