Ardent censer effect is too narrow for a class defining item

In season 7 we all know how to play enhancer supports: Buy ardent censer, and always heal/shield the ADC. I know there are too many posts right now about ADCs being OP etc, but I like playing enhancer supports and aside from being OP, Ardent censer is really narrowing down your options in terms of gameplay. If you play Karma, lulu, janna, anything with a shield/heal of about 5 seconds cooldown, and you're in this lategame teamfight. Who do you shield? The mage that is in the front line taking damage? Your ADC about to enter the fight but still at a safe distance? Normally you'd shield the carry that's taking damage. Not anymore. Shield your ADC or you're doing it WRONG. Only exception of this rule is when the ADC isn't around. Only when they're dead or split pushing that's the only moment where you're free to shield someone else.

The problem is simple. Ardent Censer only buffs the ADC (and some melee auto attackers). And this item being so strong makes that any ADC that doesn't make good use of the ardent censer buff is shit right now or goes midlane (hi Lucian Corki ).

Others have said it, but supports need to be more free to not only protect their ADC but the rest of the team too. Right now that's not the case. You'll lose more games by thinking out of the box. Censer is still the go-to first item rush (who'd expect that if they only nerfed the lategame scaling of an early game rushed item that it would still be rushed in the early game). It's not as oppressive in terms of winrate anymore, but still in terms of gameplay. We could very much use some more variety of support items that buff other kinds of champions with your heals/shields like extra movement speed, add a % of their health, a +x% damage buff, their next spell dealing X extra damage (single target), ... But make it so that you can't stack all of these effects or shields would go even crazier (put it on items that share a unique effect).

In short: Censer needs to be tuned down a little more and/or more variety of items/effects should be added to give more options.

Yeah, ardent did help the whole outcry against adc BUT it wasnt the only factor.

Since the change on Static Shiv and the addition of dustblade(pre-nerf) people have discover how much power the Adc get compare to other.

The locket on tank can also create a stupid 1k shield on everyone which also help the adc to regen hp before dieing make it so freaking annoying to kill them.

if a janna lets the mid laner die even if the adc is fine then they are trash. If the adc and mid laner are about to die then protect the adc

If the fight is being disengaged you can shield someone else. But if your ADC is in the fight, still fighting, buffing him will win the fight. Not only do you make them deal more damage, you also prevent your opponents from killing your ADC. Losing the AP early in the fight is fine. It's all about that ADC DPS right now.

Well, ill be damned... A thread about Ardent Censer that isn't all crying about how it's getting "buffed" on PBE, or complaining for it to be nerfed into the gutter? Am i dreaming this up? On top of it, you bring up a good point but i've already suggested It's effect should be replaced with something less skewed towards Marksmen only to be ignored...

I've been noticing that problem too. I'm so used to shielding/healing my engagers/midlaner that I feel like I've single handedly thrown teamfights because I chose to save someone instead of buffing up my adc. Last night I played 3 Karma games for the first time in a long time, on the third one I decided to only shield my trist. It was a stomp. I got spam pinged to hell, "Whyd you let me die", but we still won hard as hell. I really don't want to play support if I'm just going to be the adcs slave. It's more enjoyable for me when I'm making my juggernauts unkillable, or denying an assassin a kill on my midlaner by invalidating his ignite.

It's a cool effect. Overshadowed atm, but it definitely has potential. I think the main problem with this is the inconsistency. It's already limited to champions who can ult frequently enough and on top of their team. Would also be nice if they added 'single target spells' so it would be targetable on more champs than, again, mainly ADCs.

They're planning on getting rid of life drain on it, and basically reverting back to its season 6 version.

Not sure on why they made it so that the support themselves also benefit the buffs upon shielding someone else; it doesn't need compensation buffs at all.

back in season 6 it was never used though, the life on hit is what made the item good and broken, without it the item is meh

Maybe because enchanters werent played that much aswell, considering old locket and knights vow werent in the game aswell. Also different meta. I mean sure the buff helped a lot, but having 10% cdr and 8% more shielding is pretty good aswell.

I mean thats why i called it Ardent Cancer for basically half a year now.

Or just play Sona and buff everyone with it.
