A bunch of tanks were gutted for doing damage when building full tank, so why can galio

Build full damage and have the performance of a champion building full tank? What's the counterplay to a 600 AP Galio that can soak damage better than a 700 armor 200 MR Malphite?

Galio is technically intended to be a battle mage. He builds tankier ap items and relies on his kit to give him a damage reduction

if Galio has 600 AP somehow while still doing a "full tank" build I need to know what that is. a build like that would revolutionize league.

besides that the whole "doing damage when building tank" thing you were referring to might have been a few post a while back in response to Riot giving tanks Armor/MR/max HP ratios on damage abilities.

Rammus Malphite Ornn Taric all gain extra damage from building stacking resist whereas DrMundo TahmKench Vladimir gain a ton of extra damage from stacking health.

usually it makes for poor design because the harder they become to kill is also the FASTER they get to kill you.

Galio has some small extra scalings from magic resist but its nothing to cry home about. the real big kicker is that his damage reduction scales with AP a bit so if he does a full AP build and times his W perfect he can mitigate a ton of damage same as Irelia . IF you stagger your damage until the W wears off however he melts like a popsicle and is far from the capabilities of a normal tank.

No wonder he's ALWAYS on the front page of every pro play recap ever, then. His W not only lasts during its channel but remains afterwards, meaning it can typically outlast your average teamfight.

And when he's dealing Orianna-level damage...
