Build guides are a problem.
If you're going to make a linear game, make it. Throw out items and lock every champion into a given role, with all the expected effects. Heroes of the Storm does this to a point and still manages to offer more variety than League. If you try to innovate, you get trashed. The whole point of an item-build system is supposed to be that you play to your own strengths as a player, not that you bolster your "role".
The thing this is, it breeds toxicity. Random guy finds some successful streamer's build guide, matches it to the letter, then throws a fit and blames the team when he fails. After all, it can't be his fault, right? He followed tyler1's manly, manly build guide. He's mirroring Faker's last mid game, so can't possibly be his fault.
That's like saying you'll be an expert driver because you're in Lewis Hamilton's car. Like saying you'll get air like Michael Jordan if you're wearing his shoes. Like saying you'll be a Pro Bowler if you strap on Ray Lewis' pads. Like saying you can dance around elite midfielders because you're wearing Messi's cleats. Like saying you can deke at Stanley Cup level because you have Patrick Kane's stick.
It's ridiculous. This build guide nonsense shouldn't be endorsed to the degree it is. There's a place for it, and it's fine that it exists, but they shouldn't be endorsed by game authorities to the degree they are.
