Ganking as Fiddle Pre-6

Just a quick question on Fiddlesticks and his gameplay. Should I bother ganking a lane as Fiddle before I'm 6, or is it better to power farm and get level 6 as fast as possible?

Whenever I do play Fiddle, I tend to try to farm as much as possible and I'll only gank a lane when it's really pushed. Otherwise, I'll just continue farming. I see some guides that suggest ganking at level 3 or 4 to get some early assists or kills, but to me that seems too premature. I don't think Fiddle is that good at forcing ganks if they're not pushed and he doesn't have ulti, because his W ability requires him to be stationary, meaning once they walk away you can't catch up again. Then again, I usually max W first on Fiddle, so that might be why his earlier ganks feel a little awkward.

Also, when I do gank as Fiddle, I tend to do the following:

Fear, aa until fear duration is over, then throw a crow immediately afterwards to silence them, smite them to slow them at the same time, and use my drain asap.

This ensures maximum time for my laner to do damage on them so they can't flash away, but it also means the time on my drain on them is lowered, since I didn't use it from the start. Is this a good sequence of abilities to use, or should I try something else?
