Nocturne...support?

I'm not one for playing the typical meta, ill role fill meta wise, but I like to play champs in unorthodox places.... Anywho, with that being said....

I have been having a blast playing around with Nocturne support this past week. Running Fleet footwork to guarantee my Fear tether lands, and to escape from quick trades or Relic minion kills. Also the minor sustain doesn't hurt, and makes it marginally easier to stay in lane. Secondaries are Manaflow Band and Celerity.

Nocturnes high mana costs are the only thing that have kept him out of lanes, historically he'd pretty much go oom after 2 trades. Not anymore. Manaflow band, and his natural sustain allow him to stay in lane for a extremely long time, comparable to something like Trundle support. Celerity bakes in a substantial amount of AD into his kit... Q trail gives him move speed. E gives him massive movespeed towards feared targets. Together they give him +20 AD at lvl2, combined with the flat AD gain on his Q, is rather substantial. This only goes up when you buy boots and Phage/BC.

His spell shield is wonderful utility wise. Being able to stand in front of your ADC, and shield any hooks, roots, engages, or MF double taps. It adds a nice level of protection to lane phase. He trades well with every combination bot lane, so far ive had the most difficulty with Vayne+Lulu. Going "in" is pretty low risk, youre generally always safe with spell shield and his natural sustain+Fear. You might lose a trade, but youll get out of it alive for sure. If your enemies push you to tower and give you enough space, you can usually just run them down the lane and kill them both. But, Noct supports charm holds its weight elsewhere..... I haven't had a game yet, where my ADC hasn't gotten tower FB. Even in situations where we are substantially losing.

His passive is so insanely good for pushing the lane when your enemies recall, that you can instantly delete waves(without taking CS). And chunk the crap out of that tower. With passive attack speed baked into his kit, and runes, combined with passive AD baked into his kit and runes, he absolutely obliterates towers. And ive never seen a champ so successful with Relic shield. Ill have 30min games where I get a minimum 2500 gold from my Relic shield, because of his passive, which also adds into his ability to shove the lane onto tower. He also does very well defending his tower. You cant really siege his tower out when hes alone, when he can Q+Umbra Blades the entire wave to death, and spellshield anything you could do to prevent him from doing so.

Fleet footwork Alacrity Coup de grace That heal on kills rune.

Manaflowband Celerity.

Face of the Mountain. Defensive boots. SS Black Cleaver Locket Gargoyle stoneplate.

ill be honest I love your build and runes except the face of the mountain and sightstone, its actually a wasted slot unless you really need the shield for another person, face of the mountain has 100% less hp regen and 50 less life and the same passive shield battery, so unless you cant do without the shield you are wasting a whole slot on your sightstone.

theres actually a lot of irony in me saying any of this because I HATE the sightstone with a passion but actually might have convinced myself to buy it more just by looking at the stat differences.

I can agree with that. I do like the shield, but it could possibly be a better used slot.

Its nice sometimes when youre in a situation where you are free to chase someone down, but lack damage to finish the chase(Because all you have is a Black Cleaver and Celerity fueling your damage). The shields slow effect is a nice follow up after the Fear fades. But that's just a circumstantial thing, and I'm sure a Knights Vow or something would prob make more sense.

I tried nocturne support and failed lol, it was however a combination if the enemy having a very safe support and adc (fortune and Leona) and my adc not being the best with his champion either (I seem to get wet noodle ezreals) along with me playing nocturne support which I asked my team if that was ok and even after saying yes (3 of 4) they still whined and complained because we were losing, but to be fair it wasn't just bot that was losing (our jungle got wrecked early and wouldn't gank because he was behind) otherwise it worked more or less as I thought it would, I could block shots and outside of the lack of damage we had on bot we did fine until the enemy jungle decided to camp us over and over again

and to assist you in your item choice, nocturnes fear is his only ap ability, if you want it to deal more damage you might consider liandrys torment for the DoT, or if you need to stick to your target consider frozen mallet which also gives health, of course you could always grab raylais which is the ap frozen mallet
