Hybrid, aka bruiser.

He can't get away not building damage, but build too much of it and you get dicked on without being able to do anything before dying.

tbh, unless you really want to play him, you should play something else. He's not very good atm

it depends on the opposite. if they are all squishies and you can get in there and kill a few of them with a full ad build do it. if they are tanks go bruiser so you can actually survive through the cc. if you are the only viable tank champ on the team build tank and distract the team while your damage dealers go nuts. he is a pretty versatile champ so it really depends on what the enemy team comp is and what your team comp is

I'd honestly recommend picking a different champion. Aatrox is rather underwhelming and on the weak side at the moment.

If you really want to play Aatrox, I'd probably recommend a fighter build (with a mixture of offense and defense).

Something along the following lines would be a decent place to start (though all builds are situational): item 3047 or item 3111 item 3153 item 3074 item 3143 item 3065

I like to build him bruiser. You need build some tank items on him since his base defensive stats are really bad and he gets blown up too easily if you build him glass canon. And without some AD itemization, he hits like a snowflake.
