@Riot/Meddler/Gmang/Xypherous, at least give Gangplank some small buffs until his "possible" rework?

I know that I'm not that good of a writer to write a convincing post to save my life like other people are able to do and I know a majority of you don't exactly care for the pirate at all but can you please hear me out!

Gangplank was suppose to have his rework(Innate+E) but there have just been no signs of any real rework on the way. Gmang who is suppose to be in charge of the rework has only stopped at just getting out a QoL for the Pirate's Cannon Barrage and left him there ever since. As much as players liked the QoL, it has only served to relieve the frustration of using his ultimate besides not necessarily making him do more damage against knowledgeable players. With no rework in sight, he still faces the same problems of being lackluster mid-game and losing to late-game champs who have been introduced or older champions like him who have been buffed. Gangplank has no gapcloser while his personal speed buffs get outclassed by champions with spammable gap closers(Riven, Zed, etc).

Gangplank needs buffs toward his gold gain, AD steriods, and movement to match the growth curve of other competing champions. If he got something on the line of:

  • +2 Gold Gain on Parrrley on all levels
  • Passive AD Steriod change to AD + % AD Steroid to be rewarded for building damage Mid-through-Late-game
  • Passive Movement speed normalized at 5% at all levels
  • Active now separated from Passive
  • Active grants a % of Gangplank's bonus AD(not applied to self) and a large but decaying movement speed buff
  • This might be hard to ask but if Gangplank's passive stacks could be increased to 5 to allow more number buffs on DoT while toning down his slow

Not much to ask right? If you're listening then at least respond. Nobody seems to want to talk about him. Gangplank doesn't get a lot of attention from both Rioters and players alike. He deserves at least some spotlight compared to other champions who get continuous love from the community...

After the atrocity that was the Cass rework, are you really sure you want this?

If it meant Gangplank being in a better place then yeah.

But what's the point if he stops being Gangplank?

As an avid Gangplank player i'm quite afraid of what he might become after his rework seeing what Riot has done with other champions.

At this point there is no way he can stop being Gangplank. Parrrley, Oranges, and Cannon Barrage is too engrained into his kit to receive a radical change as it has become iconic.

Well, what MAKES Gangplank Gangplank? Lets gets that sorted out first. I've always felt his Oranges and his Cannon Barrage were his iconic abilities. His Parrley and Raise Morale, not so much.

Parrrley is in my opinion the core of his kit. It allows him to go in pretty much every lane and gives him a lot of build diversity. This combined with his sustain and utility makes Gangplank probably one of the most versatile champions in the game which is what makes Gangplank Gangplank.

I already said it in my post. Parrrley, Oranges, and Cannon Barrage are what makes him Gangplank. His passive and Morale can be forgotten most of the times whereas his three other abilities are used whenever it is up. I think everyone knows about "Bankplank".

He already got the Ult change. The rest of his kit is too binary and broken to buff.

I wouldn't say the rest of his kit is broken. The one that is really binary is his passive where you can sometimes easily punish an enemy and make it near impossible to farm without being slowed to hell. But after the laning phase, Gangplank is more easily dealt with as long you can get some type of armor and health mixed or just overpower him.

Riot can be able to put less of a binary effect on him if they can actually get some changes going for him(besides fixing the long request to have a reliable ult). I can see them reducing early numbers in order to give him more potential which is kind of what I'm hoping if he can be more satisfying.

Actually, GP has long been cited as binary, simply because so much of his kit's power is in his Q. A ranged AA that can refund mana and gain bonus gold on kills takes up a deceptively large amount of the power budget. Combined with his passive, and its easy to see why his other skills baring his ult are kind of lackluster.

Mana refund and bonus gold doesn't take up his power budget. The reason why he has those things is because has no gap closer compared to the other melee carries. Xypherous stated that his passive slow is what takes up his budget because it makes him binary in the laning phase so the number are weak on it past the laning phase.

Gangplank is more fine than you think.

Darkomantis1 votes

Could you explain why?

I like him. Heck, I love GP! His voice, his dance, his noises in abilities and AAs. I have his spooky skin (best skin in the game) and feel awesome when I play him. But man he is easily replaceable! Just pick Yasuo and you will be more useful than GP. You will lack the mana problems, you will have more mobility, you will be able to interrupt channels, you will synergize, you will shred tanks more easily, you will not have oranges or buffs for your allies, but your windwall can still erase any projectile from the game. And your items will be a lot better on Yas than on GP.

But GP's kit is so fun! I don't want a rework, but I want him to feel strong :c

I think Gangplank is fun too. I wouldn't want a full rework of all his abilities but his passive and E could changed to something else. Besides that, Riot can make the pirate be much better to use and not feel as weak late-game with a full build.

If you build GP right there is no way you can feel weak late game with him, heck at 4 items i was 2v1'ing in the top lane. his kit now imo isnt as weak as people make it out to be. but you cant go glass cannon and expect to carry

Darkomantis1 votes

It's not the matter of building GP right. GP primarily uses the same build each game unless he is very very ahead(where you have an IE/PD/SS) and even then I mostly am able to achieve that if I'm fighting against a passive Rumble. He isn't weak but he isn't strong either. At the table of late-game champions, Gangplank gets the small chair. If I'm building a carry build on him(not glass cannon) then I should be able to carry... Not be irrelevant to a Riven, Zed, or a Renekton who is building mostly tank. How am I still getting burned out with a SS/TF/IE/RO/SV?

Zyras Banana1 votes

Then you obviously have been doing something wrong lmao, i build the same way and ive yet to have trouble late game, with any champs
