How is janna considered one of the best supports when she is squishy and no damage?
I understand cc is important but other supports like thresh, braum, alistar have tons of cc with tank stats as well...

she isnt about cc shes about disengage. her ult and tornadoes are some of the best disengage in the game+ being able to ult people off your carries and when you run away it speeds other up to run with you. also her shield in lane gives so much bonus ad to your adc that he hits much harder then the other adc as long as your even or ahead.
^^^ +1 [slayer-pantheon-thumbs]
Because she protects an ADC better than anyone without having to put herself into danger.
She doesn't need tank stats, opponents never get a finger on her, she will kite them across the map.
Playing someone like
,
,
,
, you are trying to tank the enemy team without having any gold to do it. you jump in explode and die.
Every support thats not a tank is trash. Whats the point of a support if they get blown up by random aoe? Whoever has more tanks wins the game.
Utility is what defines a support.
I suppose it isn't entirely fair to lay into you for your ignorance because you're clearly just a noo-uh, sorry, an actual new player asking a genuine question.
Janna has arguably THE MOST CC in the game. Both Howling Gale and Monsoon are AoE CCs, an extremely long-ranged, wide knockup and a massive AoE knockback for her ult (you should have seen it in the old days, when the AoE was bigger, the knockback was stronger, and the persistent healing area also slowed enemies that tried to reengage through it). Combined with her extremely strong shield and ability to give any ally moving towards her a free speed boost, she protects other champions better than literally any other champion in the game, without needing to rush in and sacrifice herself for them. And despite being squishy as an Annie sandwich she's also deceptively hard to kill, as all her CC and shielding can also be used to protect herself just as easily as her teammates. Combined with the impressive free MS boosts she gets when Zephyr is up (and the strong slow Zephyr gives her as well) she's incredibly hard to catch and should rarely, if ever, die in a match.
For example, just look at my last Janna game: http://matchhistory.oce.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/OC1/139616425/200045917?tab=overview
OK, so we were mostly just flat-out better than our opponents, but this was almost completely a Jhin carry (we were in a lot of trouble in the early to mid game, being 4.7k down at 21 minutes, thanks to that Yasuo). Despite a Vi and a Yasuo on the enemy team, they simply couldn't stop Jhin from murdering everyone, in no small part thanks to my disengage. Especially compare me with my Sona opponent (playing what I like to call a, quotation marks, "support" i.e someone who goes in the support spot and doesn't even pretend they have any interest in fulfilling the support's actual role) who built pretty much full damage and got 2 kills for it (while her poor hapless Sivir ended the game with 0) but died 9 times despite having a Zhonyas and hugely AP-boosted shields and heals, compared to my conservative but let's be honest much better 0/1/18 score.
Damage isn't everything. In fact, damage is pretty far down the list of the essential aspects of LoL, behind mobility, vision and CC. Janna provides 2 of those in spades, and if you're not a noob and build Sightstone and Sweeping Lens/Oracle Alteration like what is your goddamn job, she'll provide the 3rd as well. Janna doesn't fit every comp and isn't the flat-out "best support" (like she once was; it's the reason she's arguably the single most-nerfed champion in history) but she's still very strong in her niche: disengaging and keeping her ADC alive.
Why do people think every support needs to be
?
How is janna considered one of the best supports when she is squishy and no damage?
Supports have less gold/xp than all other lanes. Damage is heavily reliant on gold and XP in most cases. Defensie is heavily reliant on gold and XP in most cases. CC and several utilities are not.
Damage potential, Defensive potential, and CC all come out of a champion's power budget.
Janna's power budget is geared exclusively towards optimizing supportive capabilities.
Her brand of CC/utilities also gives her a lot of agency in controling the fate of her allies. If Janna doesn't want one of her allies to die, she's pretty good at keeping them alive.
I understand cc is important but other supports like thresh, braum, alistar have tons of cc with tank stats as well...
In LoL, bulkyness, range, and mobility are generally counterbalanced against one-another. Janna has a ton of range, those other supports don't.
Janna needs to spend 0 gold on gaining full access to her range.
jannaa is trash okay, soraka is trash, and sona is semi trash.
All these idiots trying to find meaning in these champs in overall gameplay are trash.
A support should be able to peel the shit out for an adc, Whos a good support?

Janna peels better than any of them.....
adc brings the damage and janna makes sure her adc gets all the farm they could ever dream of
Did you literally compared a squishy support to the 3 tanky supports you mentioned...? [zombie-brand-facepalm]
At 45% CDR she has .5 sec downtime on her shield. Which gives 40+ AD.
