Darius has a 96% ban rate and pick rate (combined according to lolking)
How can anyone (including riot) not see that he needs to be nerfed?

Darius was nerfed in 5.18 I believe.
One of the difficult things about balancing champions with high pick/ban rates is that the champions tend to be pretty polarizing, so when we go too light, players' reactions are along the lines of "do you really think that was enough?", and if we go harder, it's closer to "champion xxx gutted, gg." It's hard to please everyone in cases like this.
This i understand, but as someone who has played against him in multiple games (not always in the same lane) i can safely say: That heal is ridiculous. Early game it is totally miserable playing against him, I just sat at turret until he was tanky enough to dive me safely, then i just went to a different lane. Luckily i was able to come back but still, the first 25 minutes of that game i wanted to AFK.

The problem is, Darius didn't NEED sustain in his kit. The amount of sustain that he received is just ludicrous compared to other top laners, who are less tanky, deal less damage, and have less sustain, all while having higher mana costs than Darius. Darius is supposed to be a Juggernaut/Damaging Tank/Bruiser, etc w/e w/e w/e, the fact of the case is that he should not have a heal in his kit with the amount of damage and true damage that he can do.

I want to remind people for about the 50th time that he lost about 20% of his damage in the rework and his E lost a ton of reliability. So talking about him having high damage now is kind of ironic when you complain about his sustain.
Lost about 20% of his damage in the rework
His passive gives him like 400 bonus AD, and he LOST damage?
Do you know how hard it is to get 5 stacks off? It's almost impossible during laning phase and still very difficult even during team fights.
Or you could take advantage of the team fight and ult one person to death =p
Is it really needed to get all 5 stacks? The bleed is so strong that just getting 3 is enough to scare people off if not kill them. And I dont even play darius but he can get 3 on you in not even 1 second, so remind me how hard it is to auto attack 2 more times?
There is no excuse he should have a heal period. If he needs sustain, he builds a Hydra, that will mean he does more damage but 1 less tank item he can build, problem solved.
Yah, but the juggernauts in general seemed rushed and not well thought out. Especially before worlds. I don't see how you guys didn't think that tons of damage, tankyness and sustain all shoved into one kit wasn't going to be a problem, but meh. You can't make someone as tanky as a tank and then give them more damage (or similar damage) to bruisers. It doesn't work from a balance perspective. The fact that every single one of the reworked champions are being banned out for weeks means no one is enjoying playing against them. Whether or not they're actually OP is another issue entirely (I suspect some are and some aren't).
Fiora: Hovering around 90% ban Darius: Hovering around 90% ban Gangplank: 54% ban Mordekaiser: 54% ban Skarner: 44% ban Garen: 23% ban
It's going to be disappointing to see worlds played on 5.18. I feel like balance is the worst it's been all season. I'm not sure why you guys shifted away from the tank meta, because it was honestly very healthy and enjoyable when the season began.
Personnaly, I'm more interested of why sometimes there are only nerfs (skarner for exemple) but for other champ, despise beeing in the same case of "oppression", they end up with nerf+buff resulting in just the same amounth of oppression.
In Darius case, I don't really understand why the max health regen needed to be up to 36%, wouldn't it be better to keep it 30 with the new 12% per target so the champ lose a bit of his (over)power?
Are you legit asking why Skarner only got nerfed after the 63 something winrate he had on release?
...k
All jokes aside you were probably referring to the changes he got they hot fixed him. He hasn't just been nerfed he's been adjusted too, as in some small teaks in some places to make sure he does as well, but not too well, just as Riot wants him to do now.

I think it's hilarious. Make every champion pick or ban and leave the same amount of bans.
I think it'll be funny when it becomes "whichever team has the most new champs wins"

Remove his heal and he becomes balanced. It's that simple. His Q heal has literally no business being in his kit. It makes no sense thematically (he's all about "MAKE NO MISTAKES" and healing = admitting a mistake, among other things). It also makes no sense as a reward-based system. Your reward for hitting your Q properly is bleed stacks and noticeably increased and satisfying amounts of damage. Why heal? Why scale on missing health? He's already going to out-trade you due to the nature of
so what's the point of ALSO healing him? In general attacks that deal damage AND ALSO heal are bad design in general. It's even worse when it's ham-fisted in a kit that doesn't need it and makes no sense.
If you can't get him to be a viable and balanced champion without that heal then something fundamental has to change about his kit, and you're doing it wrong.
You already gutted several champions in the past just to leave them to rot, I don't see why Darius should deserve a special treatment. Remember when Cass was considered a viable meta pick? Instantly nerfed to hell and swept under the carpet, never to be seen again.
Ban Rate is not necessarily an indicator of OP and needing of nerfs. Darius and the other juggernauts are being banned too much for Riot to gather the necessary data on their state of strength.
That's like saying Kass shouldn't have been nerfed because his 98% banrate made it impossible to gather data for him.
No, its a quote from a rioter. They said that the darius should have a lower winrate this patch then before, but so many people ban him that there's little chance for players to see that he's weaker. So super high ban rates become self sustaining basically.

It took Yasuo nearly a month at a 42% win rate after 4.18 for people to stop permabanning him. He managed to be the lowest win rate champ and the most banned champ at the same time for a solid 3-4 weeks. Very impressive I must say.
Yea true but yasuo was actually banned because he was frustrating to play against... Wait that yasuo get picked again and you will see him permabanned.
This^ same reason why I ban Kalista when I can.

Yeah, in fact his win rate droped by about 2% from his last nerfs. He is now at around 51%. People are not realizing that mana nerfs can have a huge impact, especially to someone who never built mana items like
. It will probably take time for people to ban him less tough.

it's not that he is even op, people just don't want to play against him and his win rate actually dropped from 54 to 51%

The 1-2 times I've seen him get through (usually me not banning him when I'm first pick to see how the changes impacted him) he feels just as silly as before his nerfs. He still poops on quite a few other top laners, and it is even more ridiculous if he gets to counter pick into just about anything.
He went right back on auto ban for me after seeing him roflstomp 2 top laners in 3 games. Sure I'm not challenger, but that is also part of the issue of him needing to be banned in my lower Elo.
That is also not speaking for any other elo, nor was I trying to, but he is still a problem when he gets into team fights because there is no reason at all Darius should ever have gotten a heal. Ever. It instantly made him a pain in the ass to balance without making the heal near useless.
Pick or ban in competitive <-----> Not pick or ban in competitive.
I'd also like to point out that Oddone said something along the lines of "Darius is problematic because it's clear wether or not he'll feed in champ select"
You're right, when a champ goes from 1.4% pick rate to a 96 pick OR ban rate thats a pretty good indication...
It's not. I'm quoting a rioter right there, Darius is being banned too much for his winrate to drop. Because the only people who aren't banning him are experienced Darius players/mains with first pick.
And it's not 96% pick or ban, that's a big mistake.
96% ban doesn't mean he'll be picked in the majority of those of those matches. It just means people really don't want him in their matches.

I love how you ignored the comment of Akali is SO HOT.
Someone responded for him, so why should he have to?
The problem is he was already nerfed but people are still gonna keep permabanning him until something else comes a long to take the spotlight.
Solo que will permaban a champion for weeks after they actually stop being strong in the meta.
He's being banned way more than he deserves, people just don't wanna bother learning to play against him
Honesty the few times I've seen Darius/Garen go through bans, they did 'OK' at best. They're just still super slow and Darius is easy AF to counterplay. Ignite, kiting, deny the rim-job, CC, burst, you name it - whatever it is it probably kills Darius.

Why is it that people on the boards talk about how meh Darius is, but I've seen Dyrus and Quas both post nerf say he was still too strong and wouldn't be surprised if he ended up being contested in group stages at worlds, etc.
But Boards keep saying how bad he is and his high ban rate obviously means nothing.
Not sure who to believe <_<

How can anyone (including riot) not see that he needs to be nerfed?
Maybe because Darius is being banned too much to give them the information they need.
The great irony is that in the act of banning Darius from ever showing up in games, the community is actually making it more difficult for Riot to balance Darius.
unless you look at teambuilder games. where it is darius vs fiora every other game. lol

Exact reason I haven't played team builder in a few weeks
Tired of seeing literally (and I do mean literally, not figuratively) Fiora or Darius every game, since Garen was toned down a bit. Every...single...team builder I went into was Fiora or Darius....every one.
Played a game against Darius as Malphite... Well obviously my Q didn't hurt him since he could heal it and deal damage. Too slow to dodge his Q or get close so no bleed. Eventually (i gave him 3 kills ALL OF WHICH WERE UNDER TURRET) he stood under my turret spamming laugh, took 3 shots, Q'd me for the heal, took a 4th shot then walked away spamming laugh... Yes i was attacking him the whole time but apparently only having hexdrinker made him 3x more tanky then me.... Jokes on him though, i killed his teammates and we won.
Yeah this is the problem he now has sustain in his kit even though he is supposed to be weaker in lane when champs have sustain they become unbearable vs tanks.

Maybe you not play someone who is considered extremely strong right now because of their base value when building tank before you complain about someone who does the same exact thing but sustains better due to a worse ability to engage and lower range.
I mean Malph isnt really the best of laner especially against such a strong laner like Darus, his bleed fuck with your shield, black cleaver and E max second shred through armor, true damage ignore armor use W reset instead of natural as so E doesnt do as much, and Malph is really immobile and low on the damage side
Am I the only person who doesn't think it's as much of a numbers problem with Darius as it is in his kit? Look, his kit is most certainly thematically cohesive; if he grabs you, you're pretty much dead. He's supposed to be a slow, big-ass guy who, once he gets a hold on you, is most likely going to kill you. That makes perfect sense. The problem with this champion is how toxic his kit is to play against. Think of someone like Yasuo. Is hit kit thematically cohesive? I would definitely say so; he's actually one of my favorite champions thematic-wise in the game. But is he fair to fight against? Most people seem to disagree with me, but I honestly don't think he is whatsoever. This is the same thing I have with Darius. It feels like his kit is just... too much, for lack of a better way to say it. It's got quite a bit of stuff going on in it, and considering the fact that his laning phase is horrendously annoying to deal with, I honestly just don't like this whole champions kit as a whole when it comes to gameplay. I mean, I already hate any sort of champion who is designed around being good at one phase of the game, and SUCKING at another; it's okay to have strengths and weaknesses, but it's like... Darius goes too far in each direction. He's way too strong in laning phase versus melee champions, and way too vulnerable and weak late game. I don't know how I would change it, so I guess I don't have a right to complain, but in general I would say he needs an actual rework myself.
I think it's safe to say that nobody is pleased with Darius at the moment, and Riot should take notice.
The people who love playing him, or believe him to not be powerful anymore, cannot seem to get past draft pick without him in the banned section. This high ban rate indicates that nobody likes playing against him. The problem isn't with the community, it's with the balance team.
I don't think being so light on the fixes is helping him all that much when he can't be played in draft mode. I actually don't believe he's a noob stomper, and I don't believe he's easy to play. That's more Garen's scene. I've actually seen Darius players lose in ranked before because they didn't play well, they didn't die as much as most who lose badly, but their impact on the game was minimal at best. However his benefit for being successful is still too high, and he is still very oppressive in my opinion. In normal mode, which I play frequently, people let out a complaint each time they have to lane against him. I can see why the majority of players are keeping him banned. The community is rejecting Darius.
not all games ban Darius just people who cant seem to find a way to go around him :3
not all games ban Darius just people who cant seem to find a way to go around him :3
Well, how are you going to go around him when he just walks right through your team?
to be fair a lot of it is fear. first game people see darius heal from 1/10 hp to 8/10 3-4 times in one fight. they go nope not again. permaban
There are also some champs that now have an additional hard counter because of the rework, Nasus being just one example. Hard counters are never fun situations to be on the losing side of, but there are some champs (mostly melee ones) that have a hard time laning against lane bullies with sustain.
But I can agree that personal experience against Darius has left some trauma. Both me losing in lane to him and all of my allies losing to him when he was strong, counters aside.
Darius got reasonably nerfed recently. He's still a nuisance but I think Riot should focus more on the bigger threats like Garen and whatnot before they move on to Darius. Especially since I'm scared if they do nerf him anymore he'll become a shit tier champion like Taric.
Except Garen is easier to counter than Darius now. If Garen jumps you, it's not too hard for most champs to get away. If Darius jumps you and hasn't already used his pull, you're pretty much screwed unless you can burst him down in a couple of seconds.

Well, Garen also has his silence. If he gets that on you he can still trade very effectively because the extra damage, plus enough time to get most of his spin off and if you don't have a dash or fast speed boost(not like Rammus ball or Hecarim charge, more like Rumble shield) then you basically have to flash to avoid his full kit(and potentially die without flashing if you're low enough to be executed by his ult.)
True though, Darius is a lot stickier and more viable but his tank-to-damage... ratio... thing I don't think is as high, even in the late game.
When a champion is so unfun to play against people rather use a ban slot on him than learn to actually counter him..I think that speaks volumes about his design and state of balance more so than simple number tweaks. Hell, I know how to fight him i just don't like him in my games. He isn't fun to see. He isn't that fun to have on your team. Darius just isn't fun.
The weird thing is that the "nerf" feels a lot like a buff. Yeah, it's a nerf against 1 or 2 targets, but it's a buff in big teamfights. The ironic thing is that Darius is still very hard to take down in 1v1 or 2v2, but now he's even harder to take down in 5v5. Which kind of sucks since it was just totally unnecessary.
Another thing that seems odd is that he can't be CC'd out of his Q. I was in a match against Darius in 3v3 the other day as Singed, and any time I would run in to fling him, he would hit Q right as I hit E. So his Q would go off while he was in mid air. I was effectively CCing myself into the blade. Like wtf is that? I don't get it.
Hah, I got downvoted really fast by the Darius mains, people dont like it when you point out the truth to them.
