Marksmen Diversity

Disclaimer: I've realized that I may have made the ADC role sound simpler than it is, or easy, which it isn't. I understand what makes that role skillful. My point is simply that this patch has brought pretty much no meaningful changes to most marksmen, who still all play roughly the same way and have the most important aspect of their kit nearly identical across champions, with pretty much the same champions being used overall. TL;DR at bottom.

So before the patch we had Vayne and Jinx as two ADCs that dominated the marksman meta, and Tristana, Ashe, maybe Lucian and MF a tier below that.

Now we have Graves and Jinx that dominate the meta, with MF and Tristana a tier below that, and the rest of them aren't even weaker than before but are so overshadowed that they might as well be. The only change that hasn't actually hurt diversity was making Quinn a solo laner, but completely unviable botlane which in my mind is pretty neutral in terms of shaking things up.

Wasn't this preseason about diversity in marksmen? Why the hell do we actually have worse diversity than before? What happened to Twitch, Sivir, Ashe

They didn't even change who the best ones were, for the most part, and just generally gave every one of them slightly better damage and vastly better survival tools, which already makes no sense because they're already the most important role (What happened to meaningful weaknesses? Why would you give them tools to combat what they're supposed to be weak to when their strengths are already so strong that the entire game is built around them?). Why is a role who's job is essentially "stand in the right spot and right click until everything stops moving while your teammates try to prevent you from dying" getting everything except for the fact that they can decimate entire teams by right clicking changed? The only marksman who got anything remotely approaching an interesting main source of damage got buffed to such extreme lengths that he is now pick or ban, while the rest still just right click and have arrows/bullets/void slime home in on their targets for the single most boring, generic mechanic in the entire game.

I don't know about anyone else, but I was sort of hoping that they would change the fact that autoattacks are super boring on more than a single champion, especially since they explicitly said that was one of the goals of the changes! No, making Corki's autos deal AD scaling magic damage does not change the fact that they are still delivered in exactly the same way as every other marksman except for Graves and Twitch (when he ults, at least). Even Kallista only has a mechanic attached to the action of autoattacking and doesn't actually have an interesting change to her autos.

Because when you get down to it, having nearly all of your damage tied into the same exact method of delivery as everyone else in your role will inevitably make you feel extremely similar to everyone else in your role. Sure Kog'Maw might become a gatling gun briefly, but that doesn't change the fact that he's still doing essentially the same thing as a Jinx or Sivir, which is standing in the right spot and watching his autos home in undodgeably on their target. There are exactly two autoattacks in the game which are not a homing (even melee attacks home, ironically; you can't flash out of them so long as the person doing them doesn't accidentally cancel the attack in surprise) targeted attack, which after 127 champions seems somewhat odd to me, especially since autos are a huge portion of the game.

As a comparison, lets look at mages. Most of them have vastly different playstyles, from Vel'Koz's shooting out huge AoE to malzahar's killing successive targets to keep space aids going, to Veigar's box and stacking, to Vladmir's sustained healing and damage, with even the most generic ones having several mechanics to keep in mind that change their role over the game and determine their (very different) role in a fight, while pretty much every marksman's ultimate goal is to figure out how continue autoattacking as long as possible because that's their most valuable contribution. The closest any marksman comes to that level of diversity is probably Sivir, whose ultimate allows her to have the additional role of being a walking Talisman, after which she resumes autoattacking.

TL;DR: It just seems odd to me that despite this huge marksman update we still have very little variation in the single most important mechanic to the role, autoattacks, compared to literally every other role. We have yet to have a single skillshot or ground-targeted auto, let alone the sheer diversity in method that any other role has.

Technically speaking Twitch's ult makes his auto attacks dodgable if you move at an angle away from him and to my knowledge they never fixed that.

Graves himself is pretty diverse now. His skill shot actually does more damage backwards. He's a hyper aggressive lane bully adc.

I mentioned both Graves and Twitch as being the ONLY examples of real diversity in the core mechanic of marksmen, which is essentially repeatedly firing a targeted homing attack with no cost or cooldown. One of them is conditional (Twitch only on ult), and Graves is actually interesting, though horribly broken because they decided to give him a whole bunch of new toys at the same time (I think they thought his shotgun would suck for some reason).

I don't know, I figured that a real marksman rework would be more than just modifying the damage that autoattacks deal, and more modifying how that damage is dealt.
