Explanation of AD Malzahar

To preface this, I saw that a bunch of people in the other malzahar thread (which should possibly move to bug reports, since it's about on-physical/on-damage effects being applied inconsistently) have no idea how AD malzahar works or what his voidlings proc. For a better, albeit longer, explanation, look up Aquadragon's guide.

First of all, the basic mechanics. Voidlings are minions that inherit all of Malzahar's bonus AD (on top of their own base AD) and armor penetration, and essentially nothing else (which is necessary; Imagine crit voidlings), so there is no reason to get attack speed, crit, or lifesteal items unless you're going for something else on that item (like the Bloodthirster shield, though the sustain is useful in the jungle at least).

Malzahar's voidlings last 21 seconds, and their base+scaling improves to 150%(!) after seven seconds, and they gain 50% bonus attackspeed after fourteen.

They follow and attack targets in the following order:

  1. Ulted target.
  2. E'd target.
  3. Whoever you are autoing.
  4. Closest target within a certain radius (not sure what it is exactly, but it's moderately short).
  5. Nobody.

Now here's for the interesting part: Malzahar's voidlings proc neither spell nor on-hit effects (for obvious reasons, imagine having them apply botrk faster than the attackspeed cap without building any attack speed, or god forbid Rageblade), but they do proc any effect that says "on physical damage" or "on damage" (or at least they're supposed to), like Black Cleaver's passives (both of them), and Elixir of Wrath's special on-physical lifesteal. This should extend to the physical spellvamp from Death's Dance and the true vamp from Gunblade, but neither work currently according to the other thread. Armor Penetration applies to all physical damage and thus applies to minions as well, which makes the warrior enchantment excellent on him.

Some notes about this: AD malzahar jungle has some of the fastest and safest clears in the game, provided you know what you're doing (saw a list recently that had him 3rd or fourth in fastest clears out of all junglers). He also has some of the strongest objective control, being able to solo dragon during his first clear (he was able to last season and I see no reason he couldn't now provided you can have blue first), and able to solo towers without any lane minions with one or two damage items, and a zz'rot if you want it to be safer (otherwise you have to take a tower hit or two before minions will aggro the tower). Last season he could duo baron at 20 minutes, provided your toplaner was tanky and not horribly behind, and possibly still can though I haven't tried (make sure the tank takes aggro; your minions are all of your damage). It's harder than AP malzahar, but plays an entirely different role in the strong objective game and acceptable teamfighting through his CC and zoning (people learn really fast that your minions just delete people who stand too close to them).

Also riot fix the on-physical bug, I need to see death's dance on AD malzahar.

I use an hybrid build for Malz, I focus on super bait and to get full adventage of both minions and AP damage:

item 3042 item 3040 item 3157 item 3156 item 3020 and item 3071 or item 3027

People just try so hard to kill you and they will get killed by your minions and your powers for doing so.

I always love aquadragons "gank".

Hides in a pushed lane bush. walks in and ults.
