Conqueror still leaves Garen runeless.

Conqueror requires 4 secs in combat, Garen is not an AA champion has no cc and every other champ seems to have mobility. I rarely process grasp in a game, maybe 5 times if I'm lucky. It's designed for sticking champions like aatrox Darius or xin.

Same for grasp. Yes the rune tree gives Garen tankiness but the core run.....useless.

Phase rush is probably the most useful. Get in, dmg, get out. But that's it. Garen isn't designed to poke and run away, thematically it's just not him.

I fully expect this thread to get shot down. I don't care. Seems RIOT don't care about one of their earliest champions with a long history and heritage. I like him. He may be binary but he's fun and that's what RIOT games have forgotten this game should be about. I don't want to sit there intensely focused clicking 50 buttons in combination to win when I can enjoy my champ and concentrate on punishing other players for mistakes and strategically using the map. Garen may be binary but he shouldn't be useless.

You need 4 seconds in combat. Typically at that point you've just used your Q and E making you a sitting duck until your CDs finish. Meanwhile you're likely playing against hyper mobile, pokey (Sion), or an AA champ like Darius or aatrox who benefit from it, you're screwed.

Same with grasp. You get better benefit from the health increase per 8 minions runes than the core grasp rune. Sure late game when you group and are a little tankier grasp helps sustain and actually does decent damage IF you get to that stage and have health but it's negligible and useless in lane phase and in this season winning or not throwing your lane is key to winning the game by design. You simply cannot be impactful with it or conqueror.

You do not need to auto for it to proc. You can stack it on creep, go W+Q+AA+E and it will refresh as long as you stay in fight.

I did try that but saw no difference or was just massively outdamaged because Garen isn't an early dmg champ. I'll give it another try. Not optimistic however.

know how you keep grasp pressure? buy a bami's cinder and sit in the minion wave, then trade or just zone them off with that threat. do the same thing with conqueror, it's disgusting

op is correct. pushing minions 24/7 in lane works to activate grasp, but is the worst idea you could have. the grasp proc is not worth giving up control over the lane.

on a champion with as little mobility as garen, you want to control and freeze minion waves close to your turret. otherwise youll get your ass camped to hell. in case you do want to fight your opponent, you also want a decent distance to chase him down before he gets to his turret. and you want your opponent to overextend and make himself vulnerable to ganks.

you want to be able to manipulate minion waves and zone your opponent from cs when youre ahead. bamis cinder makes it entirely impossible to lock in a lane freeze.

when it comes to lane mechanics in general, you dont just constantly want to push the wave but only in very specific situations, like when its already pushing out on its own, and you want to bounce it off the enemy turret. another situation would be when you want to buy time to recall or roam, or your opponent is simply not in lane, you immediately want to get the wave under the enemy turret.

the only exceptions for champions who want to nonstop push are champions who want to roam nonstop. garen is not such a champion.

Use Predator and roam.

As for actual trading, Garen doesn't have good ones, but the way his kit is designed makes him want to do hit and run trades rather than extended trades like any other Juggernaut. He's been doing this even before the rework, but because he's not meant to be in extended trades or focus solely on poke, his playstyle is kinda unique

You have to cheese it in a similar way to Grasp. Most people who run Grasp suggest a Sunfire cape to help keep the stacks up, and honestly that might be the best bet here too. Sure it delays your combo, but against champions where you have to combo quickly you don't really need 20% of your damage converted into true damage. This rune is for busting tanks, which fight you for much longer.
