Mordekaiser's Harvester of Sorrow. Suggested tweak so it has a use in solo lane

Whether you liked it or not most of the community is well aware of Mordekaiser's recent Juggernaut update. Though making him a duo laner is an interesting change the sacrifice of making his W (Harvester of Sorrow) only targetable to an ally gives a player no reason to invest in it in a solo lane and thus hurts his flexibility in comps. How can we make his necromagnetic ability more functional in solo lane? What does a deranged warlord usually do when they see a powerful force of nature? Weaponize it of course. On to the brass tacks.

W-Harvester of Sorrow New _Master of Puppets _: Mordekaiser can target an enemy champion with his w. This causes the opponent to be slowly dragged towards Mordekaiser within a certain range, the effect growing incrementally stronger the closer they get. If within range when the enemy or Mordekaiser attempts to move away from one another they are lightly slowed the affect being strongest when adjacent to one another and lessening as (if) they move away. Pros, Cons and important points:

  • Point investment would INCREMENTALLY increase strength of the effect (avoiding hard CC status)
  • Several levers to modify balance: cooldown, the duration of the effect, the range of the "necromagnetic" fields and the intensity of the pull and slows -Gives interesting W choice and counter play in duo lane: "Should I heal with my Ally or drag in this support/adc while they SEEM to be alone? Once I choose I'll have to wait through cooldown for the other effect." -Slow affecting Morde is optional but helps with counterplay PLUS identity. Pick a bad target to magnetize and suddenly your doing the "Evil tyrant who underestimated the wrong hero" routine.

Final thought's: I am aware that Riot has stated their wishes that Morde remain CCless as part of his identity which will probably hurt this articles chances of being considered but allow me to posit these points as to why this change could possibly help cement Morde's identity and role.

-This is a zoning utility above all else Though giving him a pull and slow seems a bit unfair, as I've not so subtily pointed out the effect is not supposed be strong enough to turn you into a quivering babe crawling feebly at a snails pace awaiting crushing death (Unless you accidentally flashed into a lv 18 Morde's chest palte. Then your hosed child.) This is more to create a temporary no no zone which shouldn't be impossible to escape, accentuating the danger of sticking in his melee range too long. Like Sauron Morde's influence exceeds his physical form...for about four seconds.

-It just kinda FEELS right y'know? Mordekaiser is a big, sorry, HUGE phantom Warlord with a love of domination. Having the ability to slowly drag the brave or foolhardy to a mace inflicted doom fits his MO. Until of course his arrogance causes him to pick a fight with a paragon of justice (or anyone who WANTS to face him head to head) which leads to an end to his dark empire. Which coincidentally also fits.

-Trundle is to tanks as Morde is to____(ADC's. the answer is ADC's) Though I've stated this is for the benefit of solo lane Morde, invariably strengthening his new bot role as well probably helps the case a bit. This gives Morde an answer (at least temporarily for counterplay's sake) to the ADC's who will most likely attempt to kite him at bot. If your alone and you've been necromagnetized you have a choice. Either get out of range and lose some damage opportunity or stay and risk getting sucked too hard into a kill zone BUT NOT BOTH. You COULD be skilled enough to kite even with the pull but that is an immense risk. If this seems a bit too strong perhaps his new xp passive could be removed. With this on his kit he might not really need the crutch.

So what do guys and gals think? Crazy enough to work or just plain crazy? If you have any opinions or constructive criticism feel free to share. If you liked the idea? Great! Feel free to share this around the forums. Who knows? Maybe the crazy will be contagious enough to catch at RIOT HQ. Adios!

That kind of cc would be totally broken on Morde with his current kit.

Well I admit that aspect is the hardest sell of the idea. Finding that sweet middle "zoning spot" between completely useless and oppressive as heck wont be easy to find but I think that combined with the relatively long cooldown on the ability would balance it out. Plus if you invest too much in this you lose the damage output of his other abilities which in early to mid game would push you too upgrade it later anyway.
