If I activate a skin shard for a seven day rental...

...do I get it back after the rental? Because I was thinking of using it in the rune combiner but wanted to see what it looked like first and it disappeared... is it coming back?

If it doesn't, it's really unclear that's the case and I wish I hadn't wasted it :( When would a seven day preview ever be worth consuming it when there's skin spotlight?

no its perfectly clear, most people understand when you use something it destroyed.

Pretty sure the answer is no, otherwise it would basically be no cost to try the skin out. Enjoy it while you can.

The price honestly seems way too steep for rentals to me, they should have instead made it be a really small essence cost, like 10% of the price to perm it, that would leave the shard intact. This kinda feels like the release of chromas where everyone thought it was going to be a great feature but Riot charged dramatically more than people expected and it turns out to be really unpopular.

No cost to try the skin out would make perfect sense to me, given that other options include re-rolling, disenchanting, or permanently unlocking.

"I'd like to make a decision about what to do with this thing I've unlocked, so I'll try it out for a bit"

Seems reasonable. Too reasonable, apparently.

If it were truly ZERO cost to try out the skin, then you could just keep using the same shard every week for more rental periods. I assume you want a system where each shard has a one-time use of a rental and afterwards the shard can still be used for everything but a rental.

But the point of the rental system is actually to let players try skins so they can buy them with RP. The major flaw with this strategy is that it feels like you're really close to owning the skin when you have a skin shard to the point where spending the essence to perm it feels like a better deal even if you aren't sure you'll like the skin than trying it out to see if you like it before spending RP.

If you like owning lots of skins and collecting them, then you look to maximize your skin output meaning you use the shard for essence, perm it, or reroll it into a mystery skin. If you only want certain skins on your favorite champions then you're probably pretty stingy with your RP and won't be happy about spending it when you didn't have to.

That's exactly what I thought it was...

It's called spending bait, a common tactic among 'for profit' corporations. Korean internet cafe grinders are good at this, now everyone is using this scam. Sorry for your loss, but you are not going to get that back, it was consumed.

If you want to know what a skin looks like go and youtube and search for it. Plenty of 1080p videos of basically all skins are available. No need for your worries.
