Why the Aatrox hate?

So I got him on free rotation on ARAM, and decided I liked him enough when his shard came up from loot to go ahead and spend the blue essence. I will admit he is different. He reminds me of something I've heard about Kled before, "when in doubt, charge". His passive is nothing crazy, Zac and Anivia have very similar. He is simple enough, relying on more macro decision making than any real challenging combo strings or animation canceling. But for the longest time, I avoided him in general because I saw a lot of hate for him.

But is all that hate just because of his simple floor and skill ceiling? Everything on him is fairly simple. And it seems pretty clear what items you want. Attack hard and fast. Hell, even his skins are really pretty gorgeous to my eyes. Why all the hate in the past? I will also admit, im Bronze. I know you can get away with a lot of cheese at low elo/mmr just to people not caring.

Aatrox is better now then he has every been, but most people are remembering last season when picking him was the equivalent of picking anivia top. It was a troll pick that has since become viable. That's not to say he was all bad, I had a lot of success with him in the jungle, but runes reforged did a LOT for him.

I don’t hate Aatrox. But he makes me cringe. All the darkin characters feel like they crawled out of someone’s edgy anime fan fiction. Especially Kayn.

I like Aatrox. He’s my boy. But he is a balance nightmare, and his Q and E are really clunky.

Two good reasons to hate him; either he feeds uncontrollably (very easy because of his weak early game) or he snowballs out of control and no one can stop him because he can't die.

people hate him because he has historically been the worst champion in the game

the new runes and guinsoo buff have been good to him tho. the same way they've been good to yi.
