Comparing Rek'Sai's New Ult to Lee Sin's Q

I wanted to compare Rek’Sai’s new ult on the PBE to Lee Sin’s Q because they both work in a similar fashion. Before I continue, let me quick explain Rek’Sai’s new ult:

"Passive: Dealing damage to enemy Champions Marks them for the next 5 seconds.

Active: Rek'Sai lets out a harrowing scream before burrowing underground seeking out a marked target. Moments later she leaps from underground, dealing 100/250/400 (+140% Bonus AD) physical damage plus 20/25/30% of their missing health."

The reason they are similar is because Rek’Sai will most likely mark her target with her Prey Seeker Q and follow that up with her ult. The following is a realistic breakdown of the difference between the two. Considering how snowbally games are nowadays, I compared a reasonable scenario of these two junglers going in on a squishy target at half health that they tagged when all champs were at lvl 9. An average health of a lvl 9 squishy is around 1100 HP so half of that would be 550 HP. Each jungler in this scenario has built the warrior enchant as their only AD item.

And please, don’t tell me they have different kits and that Rek’Sai is stronger here and weaker there. I know all of this, but I am not comparing their kits. I am comparing two move sets that are almost identical in function and execution.

LeeSin Five points in Lee’s Q (Range 1100) (CD 7s) 50/80/110/140/**170 **(+90% bonus AD) 50/80/110/140/**170 **(+90% bonus AD) (+8% target’s missing health) 170 dmg + 54 dmg + 170 dmg + 54 dmg + 44 dmg = 492 total dmg

RekSai Five points in Rek'Sai's Q 60/90/120/150/**180 **(+70% AP) (+40% bonus AD) One point in Rek’Sai R (Range 1500) (CD 100s) 100/250/400 (+140% Bonus AD) (+ 20/25/30% of their missing health) 180 dmg + 24 dmg + 100 dmg + 84 dmg + 110 dmg = 498 total dmg

This means that Lee Sin's Q does 99% of the damage that Rek'Sai's Q and R do with 7% of the cooldown of Rek’Sai’s ultimate!

For those of you that will say this is an unfair comparison, I should use late game, or I should use level 11 instead of 9 here is a compromise. Let’s look at level 11, when Rek’Sai has two points in her ult instead of one. I will say now that the squishy now has 1200 HP but is still at half health. However, to be fair here I will include Lee’s ult, because if both junglers will most likely be using their ults as an execute.

LeeSin Five points in Lee’s Q (Range 1100) (CD 7s) 50/80/110/140/**170 **(+90% bonus AD) 50/80/110/140/**170 **(+90% bonus AD) (+8% target’s missing health) Two points in Lee’s R (CD 85s) 150/300/450 (+200% Bonus AD)

170 dmg + 54 dmg + 170 dmg + 54 dmg + 48 dmg + 300 dmg + 120 dmg = 916 total dmg

RekSai Five points in Rek'Sai's Q 60/90/120/150/**180 **(+70% AP) (+40% bonus AD) Two points in Rek’Sai R (Range 1500) (CD 80s) 100/250/400 (+140% Bonus AD) (+ 20/25/30% of their missing health) 180 dmg + 24 dmg + 250 dmg + 84 dmg + 150 dmg = 688 total dmg

This means Lee’s QR deals 33% more dmg than Rek’Sai’s same combo, and has more utility than Rek’s combo as Lee can kick the champion into their team doing damage to their teammates, or kicking them back to his team to finish off.

Here it is without Lee’s ult.

LeeSin Five points in Lee’s Q (Range 1100) (CD 7s) 50/80/110/140/**170 **(+90% bonus AD) 50/80/110/140/**170 **(+90% bonus AD) (+8% target’s missing health) 170 dmg + 54 dmg + 170 dmg + 54 dmg + 48 dmg = 496 total dmg

Now Rek’Sai’s QR deals just about 40% more dmg than Lee’s Q. This means that Lee’s R makes up that 40% dmg gap and then tacks on an additional 33%.

So, why should I play Rek’Sai over Lee again, for the late game that never happens anymore…?

If you're using Prey Seeker into Rek'Sai ult, you're doing it wrong.

Burrow in normally, knocking up your intended target. AA them, Furious Bite, and use your entrance tunnel to escape (You can do that because they reduced the lockout to 2 seconds).

Burrow to spend your Fury on healing. Ult back in to finish, since your mark will still be on them after you burrowed away. If you need to, use Prey Seeker to re-mark the target, but you can do it without using Prey Seeker if you're fast enough.

Well of course it sucks. It's just a Noct ult that has less range and requires more set up. And Noct hasn't been good for a while now.

They want to make her ult terrifying? Give it a passive where she can see anyone she's injured, has hit with her burrowed Q or who has stepped on one of her burrows for about 15 seconds after them doing so (except the burrow stompers, she should only see them WHILE hey're doing it). Then let her ult at them from around the range of Pantheon's man drop.

BAM, Rek'sai is now a super-persistant predator that only needs a taste of you to dive in on you with her execute... making her able to be played as a psuedo-assassin. She still has to get on a valuable target in the first place (or land a blind Q) but if she does, they can't run from her... and they'd better stay clumped up with their team or they'll be picked off and devoured. It'll give her the kind of terror she should inspire. She could come in on you at any time... and once she has a taste she won't stop chasing.
