Can someone help me understand the item Knight's Vow?

Serious question, when you designate a partner with knights vow how exactly does it work, are you simply absorbing damage but your linked partner is not? or is a two way street?

does the heal you recieve proc ardent if the other person has ardent? so like a soraka with ardent and knights vow dealing some damage, would her ally get the ardent buff?

if the effect is only one way, can two people build knights vow and link to eachother?

i will try to have a go at it.

1 the idea that knight's vow is primarily damage reduction for your partner is false. 2 Knight's vow's chief purpose is to provide in-fight sustain to an initiatior, dependent on the damage done by his supporting allies. 3 To that end knight's vow grants both armor and in-fight sustain, gated by the skill check of you having provided your ally with a reasonable opportunity to deal damage. 4 The heal and shield power bonus does not interact with this healing regardless of who has the ardent. 5 The damage done by ardent's "frenzy" effect does contribute to self healing you receive from knight's vow. 6 damage from you linked partner transfers to you, and not the other way around. 7 2 people can link to each other with knight's vow. but it is not a useful idea because knight's vow operates most effectively when the second champion is a principle damage dealer. 8 I designate a partner when he is expected to deal a lot of damage or be "in the mix" and need the reduction. use cases: (a) I am initiating a full fight, knight's vow a sustained damage source to gain sustain throughout the fight. (b) I am initiating a skirmish, partner is the assassin who will have a short period of vulnerability and will need the damage reduction. (c) and ally is being chased down while I am close by, partner with ally to take away some damage. (d) A specific ally is being targeted successfully in team fights, partner him ONLY if the damage reduction leads to his survival.
