Galios New Role

So is Galio only really a mid laner now? I used to kinda play him as support every now and again but where is he supposed to go in his new role?

He looks like he could work as a support, but top seems to be his primary.

Top/Mid, but hey, if you want to play him support, go ahead.

have fun shoving the wave and forcing 2v3's from enemy jungler realizing your levels down and behind thanks to all the missed cs.

I mean...you get experience even if you miss cs

takes too much poke, has to back often. no sustain or shielding.

if you put galio bot its going to be a kill lane much the same as pantheon, you either get ahead and snowball or its very lacking.

Targons, health pots, usual stuff to sustain support tanks.

Cause I'm not seeing many who do have sustain. Tahm and Taric are the only I see and Taric's heal is crap.

Edit: and Alistar.

Soraka Sona Bard Janna Karma Lulu ThreshZilean literally every other support

besides blitz/morg/leona/naut

"zyra/brand/annie/vel" """"supports""""

So ignoring the lack of tank supports (except for Thresh) in your example, how does Thresh have sustain?

Sustain is the thing he lacks.

And what about Braum? Braum doesn't have sustain!

Almost as if the tank support item gives a form of sustain. Who would've thought?

oh jeez, even i forgot braum. but what they do bring is is reliable peel.

thresh has a shield and a team mate escape, thats way better than an engage for someone squishy.

engages are a dime a dozen.

Nautilus and Leona also have good peel, arguably more effective than Thresh's lantern since its effectiveness scales on whether people will click it or not. It's partially out of his control.

And being better than someone to engage is more situational. Sometimes having a support who can engage works better than a peeler. That's why Leona works as a support. Hell, that's why Sion support is so powerful and why Blitzcrank is a menace in low elo.

Galio being an engage tank support isn't bad.

Very Hard Engage1 votes

its not god awful, but its heavily outclassed by the aforementioned.

why pick galio when you can pick leona.

Ralanr1 votes

Ability to come to the ADCs aid from a further distance.

Imo Galio can function as a more defensive Leona. Still aggressive, but not "all in boys!" Meme level potential like Leona.

He also denies some engages with the threat of his taunt. "Can I kill the ADC before his taunt goes off?"

Also can harass the enemy from a far, unlike Leona.

while shoving the wave and getting yourself ganked.

aces. good job sup. you mismanaged the wave, and now lane, into the ground.

Ralanr1 votes

Because clearly you're not going to aim to hit as few minions as possible.

And if you don't have the river warded and don't back off when you see a gank coming, then you deserve it. That's the case for every poke/aggressive support.

Janna, Karma, Lulu and Zilean aren't don't have much sustain. They do more preventative measures, but don't actually heal you.

Watch for Galio JG. It is and will be a thing. Rare? Maybe. Doable? Absolutely.

Why JG? A kit that has a good(Not awesome) Jungle clear and packed with CC. Also a nice ALT to gank with.

Kinda like Pantheon wanted to be in the Jungle but sucks because of how slow his JG actually is.

I'm going to remain very skeptical if this claim

Not deny it But extremely skeptical

I mean, he can go top if more AP champions went top. Mostly his anti-mage thing only works mid lane though.
