Disable Pick Intents From Ban List:

There are few things that frustrate me more than some selfish jerk banning my pick intent because they don't like my champion choice.

In a perfect world, people would naturally realize they don't get to decide other players' picks for them and that banning their teammate's main isn't going to improve their chances of winning. But since this isn't a perfect world, we need a system to prevent this kind of behavior. I get that this is already reportable under unsportsmanlike behavior, but reporting after the game doesn't do much to improve the negative experience and I think it shouldn't even be possible for them to do in the first place.

Here's my suggestion: In the ban selection screen, simply disable/gray-out any champions that are selected as pick intent by a teammate. There's little room for this to get in the way, because even if a teammate changes their mind about their pick, they can always update their pick intent before the ban timer runs out.

The issue arises with last pick people who figure they'll pick the most (commonly considered to be) OP champ of the current patch, where not banning it is essentially equivalent to giving it to the other team.

Then you try to convince your teammate to change their pick intent. You don't just ban it outright against their will.

Player 5 pick intents {Insert OP Champion}.

Their teammates cannot ban the champion.

Enemy Player X picks the OP champion before Player 5 has their turn.

That's not really an abuse case, since you should communicate with player 5 in that case and let them decide if they want to free up their priority pick intent to be banned. As a higher pick order player, you could also offer to swap a champion with player 5 so that he can get the desired "OP" pick. Banning their pick intent is never the correct first course of action since it destroys team morale.

The abuse cases I am referring to mostly are where players will ban my support picks because they want me to play Thresh/Leona/Blitzcrank... This behavior just really frustrates me.

Considering how many players just AFK or tab-out until it's their turn to pick/ban, I don't really see that working out.

While banning and champion you have pick-intented can be annoying (especially if you are first pick), it isn't really an issue.

My example was not intended to be an abuse case; it could and would be a common case. People want to play popular/strong champions and are quite willing to chose them even if they are low on the pick order. The enemy team could easily take that champion and you wouldn't be able to do anything about it.

Uncoordinated swaps don't work very well. While it can work out, it can be difficult to coordinate your picks and ensure that both players have the required champion during the time-limit. Swap work better among pre-mades than with anything else.

Quite frankly, while having your desired champion banned by your own allies can be annoying, it is not an issue. Players have many other methods they can use to ruin your game if they intend to do such and everybody has different strategies and preferences.

It can be frustrating at times, but preventing pick-intent champions from being banned is a horrible solution and would cause far more issues than it would solve.

I can judge for myself whether situations like this are an issue:

Me: [Pick intents Alistar] ADC: Pick Thresh Me: I don't play Thresh ADC: OMFG you worthless nub support [Bans Alistar]

Situations like that shouldn't be possible to occur. Players are often afraid of showing their pick intents because of this kind of abuse.

It wouldn't work because of pick/ban champions. I know you keep saying ask the to swap pick intent, but that rarely works now. People will still pick a 4th AD champion into Malphite or no waveclear at all even if you ask politely. I would like a system like this, but it's not realistic in this game because the community wouldn't let it work. It would be used to force a team to roll the dice to get whatever happens to be "OP" that patch.

That said, I never choose a pick intent anymore anyways so I guess it's a moot point for me.

Alright, so your team's pick itents are showing a full AD team, so you're like "Well I don't want a full AD team comp so I'll just ban our jungler's Trundle pick and hope he picks an AP champ instead" and then you lock in your Zed mid lane... No... That's not how teamwork functions.

Why would I ban Trundle? If I was mid I wouldn't pick Zed. You assume most players in this game will switch their picks when you know that is not the case. I personally pick for the game, that is why I choose no intent. Most of these people will lock their intent even if it is a horrible pick or they'd try to grab Fiora with 5th pick when she was 100% pick/ban. You're saying it should be forced to be left up if they won't listen to reason? Sorry, but that's just stupid to do in a competitive game.

Don't mention swapping because most players don't own every champion in the game. They own what they play and that's it, which is fine. If we always had access to every champion, your suggestion would have a better chance of working out.
