So I decided to give mid a shot

Or rather, I somehow got assigned mid a couple of times while choosing fill. All I have to say is, WHY is this the most popular role!?! It's stressful and it's hard! I fed, I may have cried a bit, I think I need to go lie down...

I don't think it's most popular role anymore, nobody enjoys current mid meta, it's dominated by super-safe bullies like Zed or Lux, if you don't play something similar yourself, mid is terrible experience.

I used to play Orianna mid and I got my ball shoved up my Ashe every game. Now that I play zed mid, I'm rising the elo ladder!!

Really though, it's not hard to see why Zed is such a popular champion; he's so much fun to play.

Yeah, this is what pre-rework Nid or Rango players used to say.

The thing is, a good Orianna will DESTROY a good Zed. Between her ball harass and her shield (which can mitigate or even block his ult), Ori has the advantage.

You just need to punish the Zed for farming, ward, and ping MIA like crazy every time he disappears off the minimap.

Troll for Trump3 votes

But a good Zed won't get destroyed by Orianna

Spicy Rice1 votes

So just play yasuo, and destroy both

Hes also very strong right now. I don't think the champion himself is OP... I think hes quie balanced. Its the itemization for and against zed that makes him so powerful

VasilisGreen1 votes

wanna know what makes zed so powerful in lane? The lack of sidesteping skills from your enemy and the lack of knowledge and common sense... If you are against a zed and don't build seekers ASAP, you deserve to lose. If you are very good with dodging and can avoid his main damage, yes, you can skip the seeker's for later but if you are not so good and still don't build seekers, you had it coming. Also, from the moment his shadow dissapears when he uses it since the next time he uses it again, you have a 14 window of abusing him. If you can just avoid his damage, it's all skillshots so, you basicaly can, and abuse the fact that his energy will run out if he uses a full combo and hits nothing but air, then you will do quite well against him. Also, i can't stand what most people say about rushing a zhonya's that it ruins your damage potential... It's 100 AP, 50 armor and a free invulnerability, are you even thinking what you people say?

No but really, in my opinion nothing beats the feeling of literally destroying everything and carrying games 1v9.

Here's a recent example:

Oh, yeah, carrying. That was sure what I did, haha... My recent example definitely doesn't look anything like this http://i.imgur.com/VBLjFnx.png

Ahri's my fav champ for sure but I can't carry for my life...see this recent game lol

19/1/9, most damage dealt, least damage taken. I roamed bot quite a few times and got them kills but for me it's just so difficult to transfer good stats into a win:/

Aside from roaming and taking objectives whenever laner/jg is dead or isn't a threat could you give any other tips? Learning to carry is definitely the hardest thing to do in this game for me xD

I wouldn't really blame you that game, your team was absolute trash and the enemy team had 4 Ahri counters.

The ways in which Ahri can carry are 3:

  • Teamfighter: group with your team, peel for your carries with charm and maybe rylais. Keep your team alive and they will win you the fight. Get picks with charm if possible. If there's nobody you can rely on, try to burst the enemy carries. I've won many games through peeling for my lategame Trist/Vayne/Twitch etc.
  • Assassin: get blue trinket, spam it, ward everything. Find people that are alone, kill them. Only really works if you're fed, but as I see you do know how to get fed.
  • Splitpushing: push lanes, take towers. When they send people after you, either escape with your kiting kit, or maybe kill them. Usually chasing an Ahri is just wasting time, you won't get her. Meanwhile your team gets objectives.

What I did in my screenshot was mostly the 2nd option, I was snowballing so hard I could oneshot anyone with W+R+ludens+lich bane. In the end I grouped with my team to push and got 2 picks with charm, then we pushed to nexus.

You need to not just get kills. Take towers, then rake more. Take drag if your jung usnt a total scrub and win it by playing smart.

As a talon main I enjoy crushing the fotm zed players :D I also love burst mages but with item 3156 and item 3053 in the game I have to hold off on them until they make the items a little less overbearing.

VasilisGreen1 votes

sterak's is the same pain in the ass for Zed and talon too... I played against a team that had 3 zhonya's, a WW and a Draven that had both item 3140 and item 3053 ... that was disgusting. Sterak's is an unfair item to play against. Even if you have the potential to bypass the Qss bar, you have sterak's. And that's unfair because even if your target fucks it all up and take everything, he has that passive saving them. It's unfair to play against, especialy as Zed since you are all about hitting skillshots. So, having hit literaly everything and seeing that you only took away half of their hp because of that passive sucks.

Plutedium1 votes

LCS, easiest to get kills early, easier to influence rest of map if you win lane, flashy champs dealing damage

Nameless Voice1 votes

Well, mid is a lot of fun if you get a matchup consisting of two "fair" champions, where each can outplay the other to win.

Mid is no fun when you are pitted in an unfair matchup (e.g. mage vs manaless AD.)

Mid is kind of boring when you are against someone who does nothing but farm and run away (new Ahri comes to mind if she plays like that.)

Astôlfo1 votes

How is it unfair when one specifically counters the other? That's like saying it's unfair for someone to pick FIRE-type against a GRASS-type Pokemon dueler or whatever.

Nameless Voice1 votes

Because it's not fun when your game is decided by champion selection instead of by what you do in the game.

It's also against Riot's own design values: http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/features/dev-blog-design-values-league-legends

Astôlfo1 votes

Uh, except that's not true at all. Just because one counters another doesn't mean there's 0% chance of the countered one winning. It just means the one that counters the other has an advantage. Like with Pokemon, just because you're using GRASS-type and the enemy uses FIRE-type, it doesn't mean you have absolutely no chance of winning. It just means it's going to be harder for you to do so because you're countered by the enemy.

Mid is fun when you're getting used to it. But I get what you're going thru... It's going to be hard trying something new because everyone would mostly choose something they're already experienced at. Im a ranged-champions player and every time I attempted to try melee champs I get smashed (I usually mute my everyone whenever I try something new :P). But yeah, you're definitely not alone. But if you find it fun you shouldn't be discourage from it.

Spacesuit Spiff1 votes

Every time I decide to learn mid I remember just how likely I am to ever get it. Don't really get the appeal though, squishy champs that usually don't have sustain, you have to back after every fight even if you win.

HayRoss1 votes

As a top main, I usually put mid as my secondary and just pretend mid is top lane. It's like top lane, but less bendy

Only Play Darius1 votes

Because the coolest and most fun champs are mid. Like Yasuo, Zed, and Kat

Hellioning1 votes

Because it has all of the assassins, which I'm fairly certain are the most popular role. Also, Yasuo, which I think is in the top three of popularity.

Also because people think it's the easiest role to carry out of.

It's just where my favorite champs go ,that or top lol

Zed Yasuo mains love it.

Mid and jung best roles in atleast lower elo to carry urself, u can make plays in other lanes easily therefore if ur not used to mid u prob gonna feed in ranked because alot of players puck that first, and are used to it zeds no prob for me i can rush hourglass still have lits of ap or roa and more health hard cc after he ults and live but i also like lissandra and shes rly safe vs him surprised nobodys picking ziggs into lux though..he got buffed recently. But yeah id rather play vs zed everygame then yasuo, ori ir syndra

Starraka1 votes

broken champs, op champs, champs that take no skill. o ya mid is fun.

Zaalon1 votes

Practice makes perfect, but ya, i really don't wanna play mid. You gotta watch both sides and make sure the don't get behind you. I play top, and im used to not having to worry about multiple directions and just the one.

Divewing1 votes

I find that there's quite a lot of expectations on mid players. They are basically expected to do almost everything (help jungler with ganks and objectives, win lane, deal damage, help peel, make plays, shot call, farm efficiently, control vision), and I think it's simply because they are in the middle, and have to most accessibility to the map in general, so they have the expectations of almost a 1-man team.
