Rational thought on chogath

Generally when it comes to laning with chogath, i find him to be on par fair to lane against in the early stages of laning, of course his passive is pretty obnoxious when he heals off minions dying. but thats okay, he is a tank and i respect a passive as such.

I am an akali main, recently, hmmm about a month ago, i vaguely remember absolutely dominating my lane. i belive i was 5 kills in while he was pretty far behind. i made sure to stay top lane because i knew i needed to keep him at a disadvantage at all times. i went tanky as well, my build was this. item 3111 item 3146 item 3065 and with an AMP tome working towards my void staff, this was around 18 minutes with 3 items while chogath had just built his first half way on his second. I started to remember that i was being pushed back into tower even with a great lead. Mid game comes and im losing my lane. hes built stone plate, he now has a fairly large amount of health, im confident i can kill him under tower. i go in, i Q, wait, R, AA, he silences me, knocks me up, vorpal spikes me, then stone plates and i die to his R with 664 true damage from his R.

Whats really bothering me is that i feel like if lanes, Mid and bot are equal, Top lane will ALWAYS favor chogath in the late game, If his R scales off health. in the end he should be able to win against most matchups,

maybe thats an unfair thing to say, of course theirs games where he will lose lane, but if someone knows how to play chogath, a main for example. they shouldnt lose lane ever.

So what do i think about chogath right now,

I think its unfair for chogath to have his R stacks scale on health, but i mean, okay, fine. hes to deal true damage, he needs to contribute in some way as a tank.

THIS is my problem, When stone plate is being used on chogath, and Ults, thats the problem i have with this champion.

The interaction with stone plate and chogaths R needs to be reviewed once more. Stone plate shouldnt contribute to his true damage when he ults, it should just make him so he doesnt die so fast (if thats possible)

TL;DR Stone plate is a problem on chogath, its not the champion itself, its stoneplates interaction with Chogaths R. Just like awhile ago where item 3504 was broken on all these support champions. The champions are fine, its the items that are making the champion way too obnoxious. in this case, its stone plate and R chogath.

Thank you. i wanted to be reasonable here, and not just be like "cho is a monster, cant die ever, you die," etc. i tried seeing both sides of why he needs to be the way he is to be relevant, and see the side of whats making him utterly strong.item 3193

Gargoyle Stoneplate Health granted by Stoneplate's active's is now partially base health, rather than entirely bonus health.

Making good on last patch’s promise, we’ve got a set of changes to mitigate Stoneplate’s oversynergies with a few specific effects. Most importantly, Stoneplate now knows the difference between base health and bonus health. The total health granted is the same as before (with two exceptions—see below), but Stoneplate will contribute far less to effects that scale with bonus health as a result of this change—Cho’Gath’s ult and Locket’s shield being the two most notorious offenders here. http://na.leagueoflegends.com/en/news/game-updates/patch/patch-718-notes#patch-items

so just be clear riot did address how the bonus hp is effective with the active of item 3193

and yes before this change it was 100% busted ...

but since the change cho's win rate has leveled out and sits right at 50.32% in PLAT + overall ( 51.99 % in jungle, 48.26% mid, 49.72% top)

yes he still is a strong champ. but in the situation you describe he not only landed his knock up, his silence and vorpal spikes a then executed you under his turret at melee range with his ULT

why would you dive a tank with knock up and silence ?

it was my turret i dove him. he was taking my turret aggro. but okay, if they looked at it, then thats good.

when you say dove him i assume you meant him under his turret

you dont dive people under your turret lol . and yes a tank with free scaling hp and gets armor is gonna sustain alot of turret damage. cuz its just physical damage now. ( that is to be debated on another thread ) but even with stoneplate. it dont give 100% hp unless the passive is active by being near 3 or more enemies , it only gives 40%for 1-2 enemies near by... also well it does have a 90 sec cd... so he had to time it so it was able to be used when he ulted. but the thing that killed you the most was his silence cuz u arent going to hurt him with basic autos not as an assassin.

and funny thing when you look at his average damage breakdown per game his true damage accounts for 20-22% and magic damage accounts for 64% of his damage

now i wouldnt be opposed to making the cd on item 3193 higher... but just like any other cool down from summoners, to abilities and actives playing around these windows really needs to be part of the thought process when going for trades/kills
