Can I please get a Legit Reason as to Why Division Promos Exist?

RIOT - PROMO SERIES should NOT exist! - League of Legends Community

Above is the post that previously existed about this, and was quite good for some reference.

TL:DR: Division promos suck.

Let me expand on that.

Basically it feels as if Divisionary promotion games have no reason to exist other than to arbitrarily frustrate the player. from what ive heard Riot's stance is simple "it's more exciting" and im just going to say this: BULL - FUCKING - SHIT. every time i reach a promo game my fear is simple. will i get a feeder or an AFK or a Troll? (and in bronze the answer is more than likely). so here's the story of my last 2 promos. They're ina chat box so you can skip over it if you dont want to hear the story.

My first promo was just fine. Everybody was chill and i fought hard with my team to win.

Second promo got a duo bot lane. They did nothing but feed and position incorrectly, and when they naturally died from being WAY too aggressive they would then proceed to blame the team. never mind that both of them were feeding horrendously

Final game and the one that made me fucking snap. Azir didnt know what pick order was. he was last pick but called mid early in. I wound up picking Mid. Whatever it's pick order right? So as our last pick (role needed ADC) he instalocks in AZIR. Im in a series game and i cant dodge this shit because it's the last game i can play. if i dodge i lose anyway. The next words he says to me "I CALLED MID YOU IDIOT" -- in other words. during a promo i got matched with some dude who doesnt understand how draft pick works -- meaning he is COMPLETELY new to the ranked environment. And he plays like he just hit 30 and rushed into ranked... he is forced into bottom lane saying he can "APC" (which is ridiculous because that would be the MID laner and just because you're bot doesnt make you the "Damage Carry". also im Ekko. Im the AP damage source on the team. This Azir proceeds to be hyper aggressive. he dives in to 1 v 5 fights. Him (and lux) feed both Jinx and hecarim. both of whome are now fed before I (the midlaner) hit's 6. Now I cant roam . and azir and lux continue to feed... feed... feed. and i fucking snap on him (after the game dont worry) , because now im just Pissed off from the bottom of my heart. why in hell would i get this guy in my promotion series? He doesnt know what he's doing. he's brand new to ranked, and he's nothing more than an anchor placed in an arbitrary game

it was this Brutal loss that made me question once and for all why promotion games exist. I Did all of that work to get to 100 LP and now it's not skill that determines whether or not i make it into the next division. but RNG. That Is Bullshit. I now have to win 2/3 games that dont actually add to anything in the game... those same 2/3 games are also ridiculously hard and beyond pointless. why are they there?

and god forbid you have a couple of bad games. fall back to the division below you. you were maybe really high up in the division and you lose LP couple of bad games, it happens. now you fall to the lower division. and have to play at ** LEAST** 4 MORE GAMES to get back to where you were. because it drops you back at around 80LP and you have to undergo the exact same stress and anxiety ALL OVER AGAIN. and God forbid you run into thses random people who don't care about games, these Trolls, these AFKers... so now you have to play FOUR FUCKING MORE of these stupid games just to get to where you were. and since you're at 70-80LP you would logically only need 2.

this is not only an extreme time waster, it's just pure unadulterated frustration. In typical game design arbitrary difficulty spikes by means of purely superficial means such as level length is considered BAD DESIGN.

As a player i want to feel like Im in control - but im not... instead im praying to Riot RNG that i dont get the worst possible combination of teams. and yes this need for control applies even to team based games. but you also need to remember THIS IS SOLOQUEUE. and in these promotion series the game isnt swayed by how well i do, it's swayed by how well everyone else does.

"well if you're that good just carry"

nobody is claiming they're Doublelift or Faker or whatever pro you want to say. I know im nowhere close to the best player ever, but i still do my job. and when i now have the difficulty upped by a lot because some dude decided to feed miserably, in an already super stressful enviornment. resulting in the game crashing around me... that's just BS.

Promos just may be the SOLE reason people say Elo hell exists. trolls and whatnot don't hit the hardest until you reach the arbitrary cap that you HAVE to win. or else you wont go anywhere. and it is that very cap that is keeping you in a place you dont need to be in. Because now instead of wanting to get better as the games go on, Im forced to sit and be angry at the fact that I'm not where i feel i Should be.... leading me to my final point of control.

HOW can i as a player assess my skill in comparison to others when some external factor is keeping me from knowing where i truly belong?? imagine for a second, if you were - lets say - a race car driver. and you were in a race. and at random times when you're about to reach the finish line.... somebody, unbeknownst to you, presses a remote that shuts off your car guaranteeing that you lose the race. now it doesnt matter how good or bad you did in this race to the driver. what would you be more focused on? the fact that you still POTENTIALLY could have won the race had it not been for the malfunction, or the fact that you were maybe you were in 4th place and need to work on techniqie?

You probably would be the former. Why? Because YOU DONT KNOW WHERE YOUR TRUE SKILL LIES. Instead an artificial handicap presented itself to you and made you lose all the control you had. Perhaps just perhaps if you got rid of these promotion series, seeing what you did to lose those league points would become more clear to me as a player and would do wonders in terms of improvement.

This should be something that is for the leap between tiers, NOT the leap between divisions. because fine then you need to know wether you're worthy of being in the next Tier but in division games it does nothing but prolong how long you stay in each division. and adds completely to the pure furstration of it all.

and no this isnt just a problem for people in Lower Elo. it's everywhere in this games ranking system. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVOtTTeVS0E

No, scheme looks like this, based on my secret sources.

Promos piss off people -> damn I will just win other games and try promos again -> on tilt, gets troll/AFK again and starts flaming because it was last drop -> gets banned forever (eventually, while going through same chain) -> rebuys same favorite skins and deals with it (50% chance) -> profit because old player bought skins twice.

Because it makes you play the game longer and it = more $$$ for the company. S4 snowballing changes and longer games + LP clamps make solo queue more luck based than other seasons.

It's like gambling, and it makes it addictive. I don't even have to read your wall of text that is the answer

this doesnt seem right. wouldnt wanting to get to 500 be a big enough hurdle anyway? this is just pointless. all it serves to do is piuss off the community.

perhaps you SHOULD read the wall of text. games are 40 minutes long anyway. that alone with your wins and lossess is addicting

ranked simply isnt enjoyable and when your player isnt enjoying themselves then you have a bad game.

until then it's BAD game design at it's core. and it's costing this game some players.

It's not costing anyone... this is the most played game in the world and growing every day. I've been playing this game for 5 years that's why I know more than you; I have the experience

Do some reading... people don't quit they just play more games to get to the elo they want. The "elo hell" created from the leagues is what makes people keep grinding out games to get to where they want. There is no real "elo hell" you can't get stuck forever you just have to grind out a bunch of games.

Same reason people grind in MMORPGs and still play even though they think its not fun... they like the reward (the elo, epic/legendary item or gear, etc.) at the end.

It was easier to climb back in S1 and S2 because of no LP clamp and snowballing was much easier, the game didn't give you as much passive gold/exp and rewarded more skilled players.

eventually there is a burn out though.

Lol is NOT immune to inflation. the more popular the game has gotten the less Rito gives a fuck about what people say and it's pissing people off (take a look at the fiora threads on the story and art boards)

nor does it justify the bullshit that this syetem is.

the more people bring these questions to light, the more people will get mad and rise up or stop playing. and it is until then that these posts will stop coming in.

the reason you've given me isnt Legit.

You are seeing a vocal minority... the reason I gave you with actual proof is legit.

There is no burnout in moba because every game is different... there are still people playing DotA on warcraft 3 lol

Promos exist to induce rage, so they can ban people who flame, so flamers make new accounts and rebuy their favorite skins, win/win situation for this shitty company that does NOT care about us.
