At the moment half of the meta top laners are mid laners that got nerfed too much to go mid. Some examples include

AFK Push1 votesWell since and are both nerfed pretty severely they can't top that well anymore. is just overall a better top laner than mid laner, so there is that. 
top is pretty nasty if you are melee though, it can be pretty antifun.
