Adult Language Game Setting
Now, I am in no way advocating the use of harsh language to belittle others, but in a more grown up environment, words often considered explicit in nature are perfectly acceptable to use. Even the manner in which people talk is different. If I say to a friend, "God, you are such trash," I am not being belittling or mean, I am just messing around with them. They know this, and are probably apt to saying phrases like this themselves. Not because we are toxic, or because we are bad mannered, but because we are adults, and we are just playing a game, goofing around. Another player, however, might read that statement out of context, not knowing the situation, and report me for toxicity. Now, in a world where context were inferred by a simple in-game chat system, whoever, or whatever, is judging whether or not I deserve a ban would be able to see I was joking around, and thus undeserving of a ban. This, however, is not the case. Sometimes, people and programs have to make judgments without knowing all of the facts. This shouldn't mean, however, that I need to be banned for goofing around. Thus, I think I have come up with a simple solution for this problem: there should be an "Adult" mode. In my solution, people who have "Adult" marked in their Home page Option menu will be paired with only others who have selected this option. Just like the chat filter toggle in the options menu, people will have to recognize that they are accepting that they will be seeing more vulgar language in their chat if they choose this. This won't mean that you can't get reported in this mode, but rather, it will take many more reports to get banned. Thus, people who are regularly bad mannered and rage all the time will still get reported, but people who have a bad night, or are just goofing around won't. Verbal abuse and harassment should never be accepted, but we need to learn to differentiate from that and simply goofing around. A player who is just having a good time with friends shouldn't have to worry about whether or not he or she is being watched over by Big "Red" Brother and all of their whistle blowers, but at the same time, we need to stop the verbal abuse. I submit this idea to the boards so that my fellow peers can judge my idea, as well as put it out in the open where Riot might be able to see my idea, and hopefully, do something with it.
