The reason this isn't done is because it's easy to abuse.

"Welp our team is getting smoked, alright new guy, go sit at the fountain and make a sandwich so we don't lose rank for this"

ok and whats better, not getting fucked on the off chance no one is abusing said "new guy strat" and losing half lp for the afk or losing full lp because there is an exploit that can be looked at by riot and a solution can be found?

People are already crying about boosted accounts, adding a system where people lose 1/2 the LP on a lose and win full LP on a win will only make things worse.

Yeah, it sucks on the odd game it happens, but how often does an AFK mid game happen now? Once every 20 games, if that? You'd have people abusing the 1/2 LP lost every other game, making it 10 times as likely for you to get an AFK in your game. It's statistically better is everyone getting screwed over for the random AFK once in a while than to encourage more AFKs by creating an abusable system.

I agree that it's better to focus on helping the people who get abused by AFK's than worrying about abuse from people who AFK

Newsflash - the system has been abused for years already.

Helping out people who lost due to AFK's > Worrying about individual people abusing AFK's.

It's not a thing because as long as the chat is checked by automation it'll always be able to be abused by people. You could easily bully someone into quitting by threatening them, should you? No obviously but if no ones checking what's stopping you?

Do all of us agree? Yeah. Will it change? Maybe. There would have to be a significant increase in the rate of afks for riot to do that, and they'd sooner ramp up leaver buster before doing that to discourage strategic afking

leaver buster makes it so u can afk every once in a while and wont get punished. meaning if everyone decided to afk they would go unpunished if they dont spam it every game.

i can attest to this because my friend has to leave the game multiple times every week. hes yet to be touched by a warning

Wel one case doesn't prove anything. Leaver buster typically issues warnings if you end a game afk or there is a pattern. And like I said, they can improve it if they want. They can make it so you get one day bans for ever being afk in games if they chose to. It's a program, they can code it in any way they want. But they'll do that before lowering lp loss for afks
