Champion.gg - Master Yi Jungle Stats, Builds, Runes, Masteries and Counters

As of 19:38 EST on 7/21/2016 (patch 6.14), champion.gg says item 3031 item 3046item 3072 item 3087 item 3139 item 3036 is the highest winrate build for MasterYi jungle. I occasionally play crit MasterYi. A few weeks ago I returned to it after the removal of the good old bruiser build and got good results (this is the game: http://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/2238534809/208372787?tab=overview. I'm not sure if you need to log in to my account to view it. I was 26/6/8 with item 3111 item 1419 item 3046 item 3031 item 3139 item 3742 )

With that said, what do you think? Gotten any good results? Is this the glorious return of crit MasterYi ?

seeing crit yi come back makes me happy, because it is what Yi is supposed to be. I really hope it catches on again.

Easily killed late game in team fights because he was stupid enough to build full damage on a melee champion?

Yeah I guess that is what Yi is supposed to be. A shitty champion with a bad early game and a bad late game,

Any Yi getting killed late games in team fights is a bad Yi. Farm and pick off stragglers early.

Avoid team fights in leu of cleaning up team fights after cc/cd's are popped late game and destroy anyone caught without their team.

If he doesn't get cc'd he wipes the floor with you.

Cleaning up team fights is only possible if your team did not get destroyed in the 4v5 the team fight is, since being a champion who can do nothing of his own initiative late game when built crit Yi can't actually participate in the team fight without being focused down.

This is particularly the case if your team is behind, where they are very likely to just be wiped, with you soon to follow if you try to go in and "clean up".

Why do you think Yi built tanky? Because he got to? No, if Yi could be successful going full AD crit (which did more damage than bruiser on-hit, especially burst-wise) he would. Know why you almost never see Gangplank go bruiser or tank? Because he doesn't have to to be successful.

By the way, I'm railing against the crit Yi build in general. A somewhat bruiser-ish on-hit build with Yi is still okay. Crit Yi is fun, but ultimately not viable against competent players.

You don't necessarily have to go full damage. item 3139 item 3026 and armor items are options. He really works more as a split pusher/duelist, and if he flanks or waits for a distraction and everyone ignores him (basic summary of a low elo teamfight - I've seen them span half of the map easily), he can output a massive amount of damage. The question was more about a preferred build, though.

Do you know why Tryndamere and Nasus, split push champions, fall off, while Gangplank and Fiora, also champions suited towards splitpushing, don't?

Because late game is about team fighting. And any champion that isn't capable of effectively team fighting is not good late game.

Tryndamere is one of the best duelist and splitpushers in the game, but he's reliant on getting ahead because he is one of the worst team fighters in the game. Nasus has a godlike mid game if he's gotten his stacks, but his inability to reliably pierce through the enemy front line late game (leading to weak team fighting) makes his late game deceptively weak, despite being arguably THE best duelist late game, with only Yi and maybe Vayne capable of fighting him 1v1 due to their kits.

Anyway, as for the thread, crit Yi is at best situational IMHO. Bruiser on-hit Yi is frankly more reliable and viable, being capable of itemizing for some defense without sacrificing much offense. Your burst won't be as good as crit, but you'll still be able to kill basically anyone save another super duelist fairly easily.

I understand that. My point was not that MasterYi is a better teamfighter than, say, Amumu (Few champions are anywhere near as good as Amumu in a late game teamfight). The point was that, at least at low elo, he can still be effective late game.

Do you think he was meant to be more crit or more AS/ArPen? (item 3153 and item 3142 vs. item 3031 item 3087 /item 3046)

It never wasn't a thing people just likes the FREELOFREELO of bruiser Yi. Now it's slightly less unfun to fight him cause he's building squishy again.

Yeah, I played the on-hit build. What I'm asking is if crit MasterYi will become better than the usual item 1419 item 3153 item 3142 build.

I've always been going crit Yi, but it would be nice to bring him back because I have to agree it's not a very reliable build .-.

That highest winrate build has been changing on a patch-to-patch basis. Just last patch it was full of tank items. I can guarantee you that his best build hasn't changed each patch. Their system for determining what the highest winrate build is is incredibly spotty, and I wouldn't trust it for a second.

Unfortunately, I can also tell your from playing Yi and watching other Yi players that crit Yi is not very good in most games. It's almost the definition of a "win-more" build, because it leaves him highly reliant on getting a quick pick without getting taken out, and that only works if he's ahead enough that he can rely on a sheer item and level advantage. A much better option for most games is the bruiser build. Two on-hit items followed by tank with a little tanky AD. That build actually works against enemies who are close to you in power.

It sucks that Yi can't build pure damage unless he's already winning hard anymore, but that's just the nature of the game. On-hit items function too well independently of each other for him to need to build scaling damage anymore, and that means that he has to fill the void with tank stuff.

Which items do you prefer specifically?

Bloodrazor and BoRK are generally your nonnegotiables. Following that, I need some defenses. If I am a bit ahead and they are tanky, a cleaver into DMP GA combo works quite well. Maw can also work very well if they have enough AP, as can QSS on rare occasions. However, if I am tied, I will probably need to prioritize health/armor. An early GA can also work well, although that is more situational and does fall apart if the game is more dps-focused.
