Here's an idea: Can we just segment the mana bar?

When someone pings "40% mana" it'd be nice to know if that's a full spell cycle or barely enough for an ult by looking at their mana bar.

Heck, you probably wouldn't need to ping how much mana you had at all if someone could just tell by eyeballing how many rectangles were left in your blue bar.

That's a good idea. I'd like to add to your idea. The segments shouldn't be a fixed amount of mana. I think it should be how many times you can q with max mana.

But for some champs, it's their E you care about spamming, like Cass. Or maybe your champ has a manaless Q, like Tristana.

no, they should be fixed. That's very inconsistent and unclear user design.

i think karthus and syndra would like a word with you

Uh.... How much is a segment? I feel like this doesnt convey anything other than seperating your mana bar in a way that provides no information besides where 1/2 and 1/4 actually are. I dont know how many segments someone needs for ult. How much does their ult cost? 100 mana? Is a segment 100 mana? 50 mana? 200 mana? Its more accurate than the curent mana bar, but less accurate than seeing a %. I guess that is more than we have now, but it certainly wont tell my allies wether I have a full spell cycle up like you said.

Well That is unless every section is 100 mana. Then you can make educated guesses about how many spells they can cast at a glance. Of course the number of black lines may get ridiculous once you get over 2000 mana. At the same time, does it even matter once you have 3000 mana?

They do the same thing with health and it's fine

An idea is to make one bar represent the mana it takes to cast your 3 most expensive spells

At least a starting point would be for 1 bar = 100 mana (much easier to implement than by the changing mana costs)

100 mana per segment was the first thing that popped to mind, same as the health bar (?).

And just like the health bar, once you start getting to the point where the bars are difficult to count at a glance, you probably have enough mana that knowing percentages is probably more helpful than knowing flat amounts.

One segment = Q+W+E+R

For some champions that doesn't really tell you anything though. A Q on Blitz is a lot bigger deal than a Q on Karthus. If Karthus can use 1 Q he can't do anything. If Blitz can do 1 Q he could potentially win his team the game.

Not really. Corki Q and W both cost 100 mana at max rank for example.

OMG I LOVE IT!

i think the segments should be every 200 units and every 1000 units

Someone posted recently that the ping should just show your actual mana amount, and not a %. I think that is a better idea than segmenting, because with segmenting you'd still only ever ping when you were super low and within 1 segment, so is it really adding more value?

It'd also tell me at a glance how much mana my teammate has without them having to ping at all.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

But how big would each segment be? Enough for a rotation of spells? What about including their ultimate? Or champions with continuous spells?

Sinlaire2 votes

for health each segment is 100HP. Do 100 mana for each segment. 1 segment is enough for an ult or 1-3 skills. 2 segments is one full rotation. nice and simple.

ZT Xperimentor2 votes

Makes sense, though a few oddballs might look off, like ryze when he has 4k mana.

Hungry Ninja1 votes

lmao

Sinlaire2 votes

Ever seen a 6k HP Sion? sometimes it isn't worth counting, only knowing that the number is just really big is sufficient.

ZT Xperimentor1 votes

Yes I have, I know what you mean.

How does the mana segment is better in portraying how much mana you have? oO

Just make the ping tell the exact number 142 mana -- please don't start a fight

The same way your teammate knows whether to start a fight by looking at your health bar... you know exactly how much health thy have just by looking

Rito Staff1 votes

How are HP segments devided though? // I see if it's 50%, 40%, I don't know that if he has 3 segments how much HP that is (i dont..)

SzGamer2271 votes

...you look at the bar above their head...

Rito Staff1 votes

XD but you don't need the divisions to see that, what am i missing t_t
