Why are we ignoring Twisted Treeline

DragonManSquid··50 votes·6,518 views

I played a couple of games of 3v3 recently and was surprised by a lot of the things I saw. First off, the gameplay. 3v3 is one of the most exciting, clutch moment having, teamwork rewarding fast paced gameplay I've seen in a while. And second, the graphics. The entire map looks almost alien, and totally different than the style of season 7's Summoners Rift. You might say that TT shouldn't be updated because no one plays it, but why would they? Riot has really ignored this amazing game mode, and I hope they don't just give up on it.

So Riot can ignore it for a few years and then delete it.

(I'm totally not biased in this opinion ok)

But Riot would never do something like that. Surely you claim is unfounded!

Because it's not SR. Or a variation of.

Therefore, it is a waste of Riot's time Resources Bullshit excuses <Something less terrible sounding but accurate> to support.

Playing a lot of 3v3 solo on flex in these days, the few things i noticed are:

  1. People are more inclined to open/troll/int at 5 minutes even against the will of the other 2, this is mostly because (without counting the fact that people are far more toxic there) the games 95% of the times are a one-sided stomp without any kind of possibility for comebacks.

  2. The support + bruiser with smite Meta is ruining the gameplay there. Basicly you pick a a bruiser that has great waveclear and once you are done pushing you and your support can go and clear your own jungle/invade the enemy jungle since the jungle camps there are a joke.

  3. 6 banns are literally a joke compared to the amount of champions that are completely broken in that mode. Honestly they are so broken that you are literally forced into those picks if you don't want to give a free win to the enemy team.

  4. The extra turrets that they added around 1 year ago if i'm not mistaken are making immobile champions extremely overbearing and almost impossible to gank since you basicly have to towerdive every time. Add that to the fact that just one champion with traps is enough to completely negate a jungler ganking potential that isn't someone like Zac or Rek'sai + the free vision you get from trinkets and you understand how the meta got so shitty there.

  5. Matchamaking there is unbalanced as fk. How come that while playing against people ranked in plat/diamond (in 3v3 of course) after the placements i ended up in silver 1? How come that even if i am silver 1 i have to play against already ranked platinum/diamond players in 3v3?

There are other things that i don't remember but nevermind i guess, in the end they won't care in any case about twisted treeline :'). Honestly speaking, how is possible that they don't have 1 person, i mean 1 PERSON to check on twisted treeline balance and do few things? I don't care about perfect balance, i just want someone to fix AT LEAST critical problems like the one i listed.

Quite the contrary comebacks are far more possible in TT than SR, as long as your team comp isn't garbage.

This is more likely due to bots just doing whatever they are programmed to do rather than actual people being jerks(although it's true you have to be a jerk to run a bot in a team game). Riot should crack down on the bots in the alternative game modes. It's why they eventually had to remove Dominion. People wouldn't play the game because it wasn't fun due to the toxicity.

The meta of the TVT is pretty much Buiser, Support, mage with little variance. Most other picks are pretty shit.

There are actually multiple viable team compositions. You can have a jungler and a bruiser top, or you can have a marksman and support top.

Noone in EU plays jungle, and most top 3s players play support comps to grind wins. The only reason they play jungle is because it is more fun.

Jungle is so easy to clear, and early you hit level 3 before the laners though... It's a huge disadvantage to not jungle.

Minarde2 votes

Support comps still run Smite to clear the jungle, and funneling gold onto a hypercarry is often more efficient than splitting it (See: SR bot-lane).

The meta is simply, Teamwork. Teamwork trumps all. if you have a group of 3 you can com with super well.... gg wp bois.

Honestly, i feel like alot of the good things of TT are there because it's Ingnored. Given riots track record since S6, especially the removel of dominion, getting ignored is the best case scenario for TT-,-

Danny DeVito2 votes

A lot of people don't like it because comebacks are nearly impossible in 3v3.

That's the issue, it was a long time ago. It's been left untouched for so long that it's slowly creeped back in. Remember when they used to make balance patches for TT? They don't do that anymore. But I suppose that's the point of this thread. I wish they would update it too.

Wacky92 votes

Part of the problem is that Riot can only do a limited number of things a patch. They've already said that most patches are designed for Diamond and above, and with the increasing prominence of pros, most of Riot is (sadly) trying to keep high levels balanced. If people from Diamond only ever play Summoner's Rift, then Summoner's Rift will get the bulk of the updates.

Ariel the Cruel1 votes

TT has a ranked mode. That they temporarily removed during flex queue. Then they brought it back during the "team weekends" for pre-3's only. Now Yolo-queue ranked 3v3 is back and they don't know why fewer play it than before. :/

Minarde3 votes

Considering the qualification is "Diamond-ranked on SR," it seems obvious that those players would favor SR over TT.

It's difficult to believe that Riot is so busy that they can't spare the resources for more than one or two changes per year. Plus, Riot's admitted to the vicious cycle of "Riot ignores non-SR maps, so players ignore non-SR maps, so Riot finds it hard to justify paying attention to non-SR maps." Riot even inexplicably limits Champ Mastery tokens to only SR despite that (probably) just being a simple change.

For whatever reason, Riot seems so absolutely terrified of people not playing SR that Riot's willing to spite the other parts of League just to promote SR. It sorta made sense to focus resources back when Riot was a small indie dev, but the situation somehow still hasn't improved after years.

the map is great - as has been Dominion.

so better hope they ignore it, othrwise chances are they will destroy it or delete it.

Sandrahy1 votes

I doubt they will.

After they added Flex to 3s, those who enjoyed playing 3s (and ranked 3s on teams) can finally play Ranked 3s alone, when the please.

I personally got super excited when I noticed this and I'm like: Thank you Riot! summoner 1

He just got changes on the PBE not too long ago.

Shadòw1 votes

cause no one cares about it lol

Skorch1 votes

Because there are so few people that actually TRY to play it that if they ever do make TT better the SR base will just yell at riot that their balance (and not balance) teams arent focusing 100% on rift because they are entitled.

Epicanian1 votes

because no one plays it and they'd rather put their focus on things that makes 99% of the league community happy, rather then the 1% that plays TT. It sucks for the few 3v3 players but that's how it is

Archon Adagio1 votes

nah twisted treeline is unbalanced! its all about powerpicks, not to mention matchmaking in TT is broken

Archon Adagio1 votes

Matchmaking is broken, comebacks are nearly impossible, too many broken champs here, solo vs premade teams

DisneyVader1 votes

the small active TT playerbase makes the matchmaking horribly unbalanced and there are a literal metric fuck ton of people just trolling in it and not taking it seriously even though its the ranked Q its a bit sad because the idea of less players and a smaller map with quicker games is a nice idea for sure better than dominion at least
