Seriously, add an option to mute a person's pings.

EvilMerodach··131 votes·4,462 views

Just played a 45min game where someone pinged at least 150 times. My ears can only handle so much. Couldn't even read team chat cause it ping markers covered the whole thing. And yes, I could just mute pings in general, but why can't I just mute the one toxic guy's? And they would still drown out team chat. I see no reason to give a free tool for trolls to annoy you for that long with pointlessness.

Rito plz :( item 3070 item 3070

Ugh, getting flashbacks...

SHUT UP NASUS! I get it, you're weak early game and want ganks, but you've died the past four times I ganked for you, and Lucian just DCed, Sona's alone and we'll lose every bot tower immediately if I don't apply SOME pressure there, and I can't be omnipresent as much as I want to be! AND FOR GODS SAKE BUILD AT LEAST ONE DEFENSIVE ITEM! YOU DON'T NEED TO BUY FOR OFFENSE YOU GET IT ALL FROM YOUR Q! And stop calling everything that kills you BS Because YOU HAVEN'T BUILT A SINGLE DEFENSIVE ITEM SO OF COURSE YOUR GOING TO GET FUCKING KILLED!

...

...

Sorry, where was I?

Err... yeah, the ping mute thing... sure... go ahead with that

Or, if you don't want them completely gone for 'getting rid of useful info with /mute' reasons, then either- A: add detection system, where after person uses X number of pings, if you muted them, they stop showing in chat or making sound (but still show on map?) B: add volume slider for muted allies pings, so you can turn the sound down just for their pings but not other allies.

xLordZantx9 votes

As long you say the pings are still visible I can agree, how about when you press tab there is separate button for ping mutage

EvilMerodach3 votes

Yeh I'd be ok with them still being visible (though maybe not show in chat) as long as the sound goes away without me having to mute everyone's pings.

Ultîma7 votes

Honestly, muting someone should mute their pings by default.

If I'm muting them because their behavior is less than stellar, it's reasonable to believe their use of pings will be equally terrible.

BallisticMouse6 votes

I commonly see people who get muted switch to spamming pings instead because they know they can.

Gorantharon3 votes

Don't tell them you mute them.

They figure it out pretty quick.

A long time ago I got muted in a game, for suggesting (yes, actually suggesting) an item or two for a champion. I had to communicate via pings for the rest of that match, and we lost anyway (because I couldn't get my point across).

FYI, our Kat had lost lane because she was building flat AP: Rabadon's, Lich Bane, Nashor's Tooth. For those overly-sensitive people... I'm not sure what to do about them. I certainly don't want my USEFUL pings to be counted as spam/trash, but I completely agree that actual spammers and trollers should have their pings blocked.

Oh, I was also reported for being mean in that match, while I was only trying to be nice/helpful (nothing happened to me, which proves a valid point).

Outside of my history of horrible games (build-wise) and whatnot, I have had a very similar experience with a spammer who just wouldn't quit pinging things. He (or she) pinged every single alive jungle camp, pinged each "living" turret, and pinged the nexus once each, every minute. This kept going until the enemy team was knocking at our nexus door.

On a different occasion, 3 of my friends and I went into a draft with a supp Taric who muted us all from 00:01 of the game. He pinged maybe 10 times the entire 40-minute(?) game, and we just could not get a teamfight to go in our favour (thanks to lack of a well-timed engage). Needless to say, we reported him for complete lack of communication (including lack of pings).

THE GREAT SLOTH5 votes

I had this happen the other day, and it was reaaaaaaaally obnoxious. This person pinged practically every damn thing on the map. And it lasted the entire game, no exaggeration. Every time she was able to she'd be rapid fire pinging. I would really like this option in case something like this happens again. Aside from muting all pings or turning off game volume, idk what you do about that. If someone is pinging literally every time they're able to ping, they're probably not using their pings wisely enough to pay attention to anyway.

Vesarixx1 votes

had an ARAM game like that, twisted fate pinging everything in existence, got old real quick, plus it's ARAM so no one cares to begin with.

Mute pings? No problem when 5.6 comes Ill just put 3 mandrake wards in the same bush and put it right at a bot lane bush

Seriosly, I've played with people pinging specifically to be annoying little shits when they don't get what they want. Giving us the ping volume control was nice but I don't want to have to mute my whole team's pings when one person is being an ass.

Drogeist3 votes

Upvoted. Some iteration of this is a very good idea. Thankfully, in my experience, most trolls are weak-willed enough that sustained abusive pings isn't unbearably common. Still, this is needed.

Mr Borg3 votes

Played with a Teemo once who would spam assistance pings literally 2- 3 times per second whenever he had vision of his lane opponent. I still have nightmares.

As a jungle main one of my pet peeves is a laner who spans fall back pings when they die or b and I'm farming their lane. Like bitch no you died. I'm not letting that sweet cs go to waste.

Vesarixx2 votes

Sometimes it's necessary though, last time I played Nasus I had a Xin Zhou jungle that thought taking the tower at the 5 minute mark was worth it, and that setting up a lane freeze in front of Darius' tower for him was also a good plan, I've also had junglers than show up, do nothing and then tax the lane, or break the lane freeze I was attempting so I can't get farm without overextending. That aside if I'm backed or roaming take as much CS as you want, keeps it from getting wasted and gets the team a higher level jungler, or even if we're pushing to try to get the turret because the minor gold loss is worth the pressure on the enemy team.

Mr Borg1 votes

Well yeah. I'm fine with a laner using a ping to tell me not to push their lane and only a bad jungle taxes a lane for no reason.

I'm talking about laners who spam pings/rage when I'm doing nothing but last hitting minions that would die anyways.

Vesarixx1 votes

Yeah that I can understand

On the one hand, I agree, you should be able to mute pings, and in fact my last game I muted three people trying to stop their pings only to learn I couldn't.

But on the other hand, OP, 150 pings in 45 minutes is about 3 per minute. I believe most of us can handle a ping every 20 seconds.

VBs4aQv7zJ2 votes

Right, because trolls and pissed off players ping once every 20 seconds from the beginning of the game. It is more likely that that person pinged 6 times in succession every 4 seconds, which allows maximum pingage.

Yeh, but cut out the 1st 4-5mins of game cause no pings before minions spawn. (or like 2-3 for jungle start/checking brush/etc,) and laning phase there wasn't a lot either. Plus other people pinging for useful reasons. Then the one guy's ping every 20 seconds..which was more like 5 pings at the same time, once every minute to 2. It makes team fights very loud and very distracting. So closer to 130 pings in 35mins, with the other 20 being before the troll got mad and starting the spam train.

I know there's a spam blocker for pings, but it's something like 5 in a row, then you get locked out for 30 seconds. Feel like there should be a more general spam blocker too, like, 20 pings in 4-5mins, or getting stopped from pinging 3-4 times in a row, you should start only getting 2 pings before it spam locks you. Or if you get spam locked 5 times throughout a game, you lose your ping privileges for 10mins/or the rest of the game?

KDragonL2 votes

Unfortunately you can only mute everyone's pings and not just one persons.

o0O Madoka O0o2 votes

They should provide an option to just literally "mute" the ping: mini map icons only nomsounds

The Chain Warder1 votes

It'd also be nice if you could prevent it from spamming the chat as well.

Dilitra2 votes

Agreed. I literally just had this yesterday in a ranked. Guy started ping nonstop right when the game started for absolutely no reason. He did it for a good solid minute then quit once the game started. Really aggravating.

Placentas2 votes

Yes please. Pings can be the most helpful thing in the game, or the most annoying thing ever. I agree, I don't want to stop the pings of everyone on my team, odds are 3/5 are doing well and pinging appropriately but that one person just can't control their pinging urges and spams pings nonstop.

FattyPainBringer2 votes

you know about 6 months ago they added this option to where you can turn down the sounds of pings?

judging from the noob rage you dont read patches notes.

EvilMerodach3 votes

Yes. I did know that.

As I said, "I could just mute pings in general, but why can't I just mute the one toxic guy's?" Muting pings doesn't stop it from drowning chat either. Also, I have my ping volume at 8, with master volume at 40, and windows system volume at 70%, even with no toxic players. I use headphones and have sensitive hearing, everything is toned down to lower volumes than most are used to.

Muting pings doesn't solve the problem, or does, but created 4 problems in the process. (I just muted 4 people's pings cause 1 was toxic, plus, now I have to remember to turn them back on next game.)

Velasan2 votes

My problem with pings is the caution ping. Everyone spams its when the enemy is already on top of you and by then it is distracting and adds more overall "noise" both audio and visual.

Attempting a skill shot with ping! ping! ping! going off is an aggravating experience.

AsReelAsItGets2 votes

If you mute a person from chat I think it's a good idea to mute them all together. Cause sometimes if they spam ping it really can be annoying. but if you do that that means there will be 0 communications. Some people I encountered would instantly mute everyone for some reason. we would get get no reply from that player.

Idk if this is a good idea cause if that happens then everyone reports that player for no communication. So I am pretty much 50 50 about this.

EvilMerodach2 votes

Yeh, back in...2013? /mute muted pings and chat. They removed that so there would still be a form of communication. Which I'm ok with. But there needs to be an extra option to mute a person's pings for those people who just abuse the hell out of it. Think like /noping (player) and /mute (players) And come to think of it, /noemote (player) should probably be a thing too. /mute covers it. But sometimes they aren't rude in chat, they just spam emotes too much.

Fried Noob1 votes

They used to have it where if you muted someone, it muted their pings, but that got changed since it reduced team communication and hurt your chances, since sometimes ragers still long usefully. However, I wouldn't mind a ping muted for those cases where a person is abusing the Ping system to annoy people.

powerbats1 votes

You can always ignore them since that blocks all communication from the offending player including pings.

KaisadiIIa2 votes

It doesn't block pings.

The Chain Warder1 votes

It's not even just troll pings. I have a friend who's chill and I like playing with him, but really, his pings are the worst. He'll ping to be careful, and me not knowing where it's coming from, immediately back off. Then a few seconds later I realize there was no danger. I ask him why he pinged if nobody's coming, and he'll say things like "thought he'd kill you under turret." No, the turret was nowhere near killing me, the enemy was OOM, and we just missed the free kill. D:

DotEleven1 votes

Unfortunately, the only way right now is to mute all of your teams pings.

Whenever theres a teemo and your mid laner sees where he places his shrooms and they ping it 15 times then wait and then ping another one 15 times i get the feels

Simplicate1 votes

RITO PLS! I had this one game where our mid laner refused to ping for a roaming Katerina. Being bot lane you can only watch how others are doing in there lane every 5 seconds so my ADC got killed twice. I asked them nicely if they could start pinging MIA's to which they didn't reply but the next time Katerina went MIA, this dude spammed it over and over again then started to use the careful ping at least 18 times on river nonstop. I told him that we understood and he could stop now but he kept on and then ended his rage pinging with "happy now?" Like wtf is wrong with these people? You are the cause of someone else's death and you get mad when someone asks you to ping your MIA's. I know it's everyone's job to ward but the free trinket only goes so far before I am able to buy real wards.

Vesarixx1 votes

There should also be an option to mute emotes, because Mundo says his own name a lot, and it gets annoying, also if you've ever laned against a Nunu bot, Teemo or Darius you know what I'm talking about.

If I remember right, /mute does mute that players emotes. Though maybe having it separate would be nice sometimes, some champs just have way more annoying /L than others, and even non-troll's sometimes overdo it.

Vesarixx1 votes

I didn't think it did that but i it does then it will make future games vs some champions a lot less annoying.

Leti the Yeti1 votes

I spam ping for good reason ;l This is becuz I cannot trust my team to stay focused

gotta herd all the ducks to their adc, gotta heard them all away from troll bard who will get away anyway gotta herd them to the nexus cuz I know they wont focus that shit otherwise gotta herd them away from dragon cuz I'll solo that shit.. go do something productive -_-

and you know, putting red blinking targets over everything and playing a loud noise will more likely get their primitive attention than say actually typing out a list of directions...

You know what I need? even more pings I need a ping that tells people to upgrade their god dam trinkets

It would be a real shame for people to mute a method which others can also use to call shots and maintain order... just cuz some freakin trolls come around and ping the fountain obelisk for no reason

ActuallyArrow1 votes

I had a match yesterday where they just sat there and pinged for me to retreat from my own tower, even though the lane was empty and all I was doing was getting CS. Pretty sure he just did it to annoy me. I just turned off sound.

A simple ping limit threshold slider would be great.

I know the client eventually stops them. But before that...

For the sound part, hit mute XD but yeah good idea those pings in the chat drown out everything.

muting a player also mutes their emotes...great idea just make it so pings are muted as well.
