Other tanks will never be as good as Malphite or Alistar.

Until you do something about their kits.

Malphite has the ultimate dial-a-teamfight ult. Instant, no start up, direct AoE. There's not even skill in using it. Fire and forget. Alistar has a tiny Malph ult in his kit on top of having the highest damage reduction of any tank.

If other tanks are to see play, these two need to have something done about them. (No, Rammus getting a high win-rate when most people are playing ADCs and he directly counters ADC does not an alternative make).

DrMundo lol wut?

That's isn't a tank.

That's a bruiser/semi-juggernaut. Light on defense, heavy on offense.

TahmKench ? DrMundo ? Blitzcrank ?

ModCaptainMårvelous1 votes

None of those are tanks.

Tahm is a meat-wall semi-bruiser with no initiation. He's more of a bodyguard. Mundo's a tanky bruiser. He's just a wall of meat most people ignore. Blitzcrank is as close as you come to a tank but has horrible base stats and zero damage reduction tools/mitigation asides form a gimmicky passive.

Ex-fucking-scuse me?

Tahm Kench: Support, TANK

Mundo: TANK, Fighter

Blitzcrank: TANK, Support

Ok so then it doesn't matter that I'll say Yasuo is a mage?

It doesn't matter that I'll say Sion is an assassin?

It doesn't matter that I'll say Veigar is a fighter?

It doesn't matter that I'll say Zac is a marksmen?

There's a difference between arguing that a champion isn't a tank just because they have decent HP/build HP items versus just throwing out random classifications.

Meatwall =/= Tank.

That's like saying Ryze is more of a tank than Mundo because he has hard CC and has a MS boost while building vaguely tank items like RoA and Frozen heart.

well even tho i absolutely agree that none of these champions is a tank, i would really like you to DEFINE what makes a tank and what "tanking" actually means in league.

in korea malphite players always flash ulti because the enemies can flash their ulti

Sion was a pretty strong tanky sort for a while. His ult lets him engage a fight from outta nowhere, and he can lock down a target or three with his Q. He also puts out more damage than you'd think to make focusing him more likely. If the front line flashes or dodges his ult that gives him free pass to the back line or to flank the team, and he jumps back up after death to harass the enemy team some more if you manage to kill him.

malphite is only so good because carries are too strong. its not even his ult. if the adc wouldnt practically win a teamfight on his own due to his damage, being able to ult into the backline like malphite does wouldnt have such an impact on a fight.

a malphite whos forced to build mixed resistances has much less going for him. ive seen it a couple times before the preseason changes. even if he ults 5 people its not going to do much on its own when the adc isnt carrying.

its the fact that he can wreck an adc that turns a fight.

alistar has like 20 second long cooldowns and has nothing else going for him except tankiness while his stuff is on cd so he can just be ignored. nautilus is still one of the best tanks because of his insane amount of cc and low cooldowns. you can flash out of malphite's ultimate and has only a slow besides that. his damage isn't the best and is fairly easily kited after his ult. even if malphite flashes and ults then first off he has no flash and unless he gets a really good ult off on a lot of people it doesn't matter because then the enemy team can just peel them off why do you think malph has an instant ult btw

ModCaptainMårvelous1 votes

Naut has a lot of CC but has fallen out of favor because of how low his base stats are and how many items he requires to truly tank. Alitstar may not put out the same level of CC but he makes up for it by requiring next-to-no items to be tanky enough. Not to mention his Q and W have a way shorter cooldown than you make them out to be. He needs gold. Either you put him jugnle, where he's sub-optimal atm, or you make him support and struggle with gold.

Malph's ult is all he needs. It's instant, fast, AoE and combos into an attack speed slow for all you hit. "Oh but if he uses flash it's pointless" is a terrible, awful argument. And honestly? Malph has his instant ult because he's OLD. He's one of the original 40. He's using an outdated kit and should not be looked at as an acceptable champion but a relic.

malph's ult is not instant and early game alistar's cooldowns ARE that long. and i never said that if malphite flashes it's pointless. in fact it makes it a lot better. as for the work around for nautilus's low base stats, build a bit of ap. nautilus's ap scalings are pretty good. putting on a rod of ages and liandry's can give nautilus a lot of damage and some tankiness at the same time. his w scales off of health so he gets to double dip into the items.

well the problem with malphite is that he jungles so-so and way too much power is in his ultimate which isnt that strong in any situation that isnt teamfights. basically malphites biggest weakness is that he cant lane against strong champs

Maokai has a mini version of Alistars mini Malphite Ult combo ;)

i really dislike maphite's kit, so annoying

I'm sorry but a good Nautilus can be more gamechanging than a good Malphite. Surely Malphite has mechanics more easily exploited by him and his team so it appeals more for the majority but yet a good Nautilus will make your winning chance increase by a ton load.
