I'm scared to play anybody top but the juggernauts and Fiora anymore...

Shroom Junkie··28 votes·3,085 views

Its like, anyone else I play I either have to A. Play super safe, or B. Feed. Heck, even Tryndamere goes even with them. Now I only play my main, Rumble, in mid lane because I feel like if I try to go top I'll either get pit against a Garen, Darius, or Fiora, or get really lucky and pit against someone else like Shen or Tryndamere. I mean, its kind of sad that now I like to face Tryndamere over Garen, Darius, or Fiora. Well, maybe not Darius, but fucking Garen? Are you joking? Heck, I like Heimerdinger more than these little shits. I get he's not much in high elo but down here in Bronze-Gold he's for the most part a god.

Edit: Its sad that all the people posting here are mostly giving me ideas on who to play... and they're right, I have to play specific champions if I'm not playing Juggernauts and play a certain way(usually safe) so I don't get shit on. This needs to be fixed.

teemo the answer is always teemo, teemo pretty much shits on most top laners save for fiora. i should know i took the time to grind him up to rank 5 mastery, but his blind and poison shots knock health down really quick if you can get them at the right time. heimer is also a great choice, as because of his turrents he can for the most part avoid being dived to heavily. either way both are great choices to counter the new juggernauts that riot broke

But teemo and heimer has no use after laning phase.

i can go 25/ 3 on a great game with teemo and that's after the laning phase is over.

I've been playing Fiora a lot, and let me tell you if she doesn't snowball early, she won't snowball the entire game (unless she has Froggen-level cs). If you pick something like Teemo/Quinn/Lulu top & deny her cs/kills early, she's going to have a hard time. Her true dmg at early levels is garbage, her Q won't deal much even though she's maxing it first & E's damage isn't high. Ranged champions that could consistently poke her from a safe range will make her laning phase hellish.

The rest of the juggernauts are indeed so annoying to deal with especially Darius since he gets so much AD from his passive.

Baseball3b1 votes

The annoying thing about Fiora is that even if she doesn't snowball early, she can just keep splitting until she either takes inhib or is farmed up enough to make use of the insane scaling on her passive.

Conturbatio9 votes

A lot of top laners can do that much better, even if they lose the lane so hard TryndamereNasusJaxOlaf & Proxy Singed

Fiora's only split-push potential comes from her AA reset on E & attack speed on 2 AAs, after that she's just a normal fighter.

Pantheon in the top lane deals with the Juggernauts quite well.

Max out Heartseeker Strike, build Phage->Ravenous Hydra->BC->Last Whisper/Randuins and another tank item.

Use Heartseeker before Garen or Darius close in on you.

When Garen hits you with Decisive Strike, intentionally stand in his Judgment and auto attack him the whole duration of it and orbwalk with it. When Judgment ends and Garen is running away, Spear Shot->Aegis stun-> auto attack->Heartseeker to finish out the combo. You will win those trades every time.

When Darius is winding up his Q, Aegis stun at him so you avoid the blade's bonus damage, bleed application, and healing him, Heartseeker, follow him with auto attacks like with Garen. Rinse and repeat.

Fiora is tough to lane against. Grow some big balls and go hard on her whenever she wants to proc Vital marks on you.

Take Teleport+Flash, roam the map with Ult, then recall and TP back to lane to hold tower.

Ralanr1 votes

Stand in his judgment?

That has never worked out well for me as a Pantheon main. Combined with his silence shutting Pantheon down completely. Though I maxed Q first so that might be on me.

But yeah OP. Pantheon should be tried up at top. His passive is great against Fiora's if you time it right.

Auroramancer1 votes

Well obviously don't stand in his Judgment just for shits and giggles.

If he's closed in and struck you with Decisive Strike, he's going to sit on you with Judgment anyway, even if you are running away. If you're going to take Judgment's damage anyway, fight back so that Garen takes damage in return, and so that you can train onto him when Judgment has finished for more harass before his other cooldowns are back up.

Ralanr1 votes

More risk vs reward?

Eh why not? Running kills me anyway. Not like he has his ult before 6.

I've had success with Sion against garen. Started flask and pots, and played safe, farmed up, came team fighting time i was able to impact the fights much more than him.

Yeah the trick is to play more useful teamdight champs.

Yeah top meta isn't favoring Rumble, as a Garen main, Rumble lanes are buffets.

Those rumbles suck. Rumble has always beat garen.

Well I would argue Riven is more cancer than Tryndamere by far. Though you probably argue Riven is well balanced.

Shonjl1 votes

I am slowly trying to pick up Riven and truthfully I don't get why people think she is so broken? Garen's Q downright nullifies her combo. On top of the fact he is just as snowbally as she is. Have you seen a Garen that gets like 5-10 kills? He basically becomes an assassin as well as a tank in one. Good luck defending who he wants to kill when he kills someone in a single spin and has like 5k hp.

Also Gnar seems to be a hard challenge since he pokes a lot and when he goes Mega, can go toe to toe with her easily since every ability has some CC attached to it.

ninjaIRL 4 votes

One of the keypoints of Riven, is to use your 4 dashes (not all, mind you) to dodge CC. Each Q dash brings a lot of damage to the table, you can use her Q in such a way that you are dealing damage whilst dodging enemy abilities. Her E is basically a Q but instead of dealing damage it gives you a shield.

All of her abilities have amazing AD scaling so damage shouldn't be a problem. Just learn to dodge CC and become BoxBox.

Steel Blossom1 votes

Her E is actually nothing like her Q...it's a way to cancel a lot of animations, like R(both casts) and W and even Q...Her Q barely cancels anything, only Wind Slash. Riven's E is like her heart and soul lol.

Blue Moon Wolf4 votes

how about the fact her kit gives her 3 escape/initiate tools, she can tower dive and take no damage and her Ult that can fire a wide as hell skillshot, all of which she doesn't use mana for, so she can out sustain anyone with mana.

Narasimha3 votes

so she can out sustain anyone with mana.

You were doing so well. And then you had to try and say 'out sustain'...

Theres a concrete reason why the champions that wreck Riven, WRECK Riven.

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

It's a natural benefit champs with no mana have, it doesn't mean that she doesn't have mana using champions who can wreck Riven in lane. I know Taric can no doubt beat Riven, but any mana champ who isn't an adc more or less become a sitting duck when they run out of mana. There is likely a better word than "sustain" since that more refers to champs who can keep their health up through various means, but I can't think of one.

Narasimha1 votes

'Outlast'? That might work. Though thats hardly specific to Riven. Hell, if a champion runs oom against another mana using champion, they're in just as much trouble.

Blue Moon Wolf2 votes

In most mana vs mana situations, it's based on how much mana your abilities use and who is willing to run the risk of using up mana to try and make a kill. If you wind up using all your mana and the other champ is completely fine, then you're likely going to be forced to be more defensive (and there is still the chance of the other guy running out of mana as well). manaless champs on the other hand don't run that risk. Thier abilities are always available and only have to worry about low health (that said, they also don't have to buy item 2004).

ninjaIRL 1 votes

I'd suggest picking DrMundo. I personally don't play either champion but I've seen Mundos ignore Riven in laning phase and it works well because Mundo can still farm whilst Riven can farm but get no kills. His health costs are curbed by innate high health regen and tanky base stats.

Steel Blossom1 votes

First of all she needs 40% CDR and some decent AD to "take no damage" towerdiving, or she has to max E and deal close to no damage with abilities alone. Also, while Riven doesn't use a mana bar, her base health regen is probably one of the worst in game. Until you have hydra, you basically don't get any health back without potting. Which brings me to what I think is the problem with Riven--she scales way too well.

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

that's strange, cause every riven I ever face early game can tower dive at lvl 5 and poke me to death while only taking damage to her shield. I even try to get out from under my tower to farm she stuns me and gets off her Q then shield dashes away. Though you may be right, part of the problem might be she scales too well, I still think riot should look into her using mana, maybe lower her cooldowns a bit. don't put up on the PBE, just do some trial runs for perspective

Steel Blossom1 votes

OK who do you play that gets dived at lvl 5 by Riven?

Blue Moon Wolf1 votes

MonkeyKing Gnar (though honestly I don't remember how that one went, I think I won the lane, though she still managed to tower dive when she pushed the lane back to my tower) Tryndamere and I mostly go support otherwise, so I would say those 3 for sure.

Steel Blossom1 votes

Riven does exceptionally well when her opponent don't bring any hard CC to the table. I'd like to see a Riven dive a Garen, a Darius or even a Mega Gnar. Notice how both Wukong and Trynd don't have the best early games; always try to pick a stronger lane bully into Riven. On the matter of Tryndamere, however, I can only suggest you fight back whenever Riven tries to fight you with your rage up. I've played against quite a few Trynds before, and let me tell you they crit every single fucking time they hit me, with just a Doran's blade. However, it is also worth noting that to succeed against a Riven, you need to know when to fight back and when to run away. Don't just let her slap you around, but also don't chase until her spells are up again. It's a matter of knowing Riven enough to be able to beat her.

Meh, Riven is probably a bit over the top in soloqueue, particularily powerful when facing someone that doesn't main toplane. But Tyrnd is much more annoying to lane against because of "Oh, Tyrnd with 15% fury crit me twice in a row, well played I suppose."

Auryiel1 votes

You think Tryndamere is not the epitome of cancer in LoL?

I mean aside from Kalista but that's not even fair to compare anyone to her...

Steel Blossom1 votes

I'd argue that Riven scales too well, but her early game is somewhat laughable in the face of someone like Darius or Garen. Riven kind of loses to stronger lane bullies since she can't CS from afar, and a good Irelia can cause a good Riven immense pain too. On the other hand, Trynd has no counter--it's all luck; you can't make any plays for him to not crit . And he always crits when he has full rage early game, even though it gives about 30% crit or something...maybe it's just my luck, but I srsly hate that lane.

SeductiveGrandpa5 votes

Although I have to agree that Riven is way more frustrating, Trynd is pretty cancerous too.

The moment he hits level 6 is the moment you die under a tower, he survives, and wonder what the fuck just happened.

Rumble Mid ;;;;;)))))))

Gunslinger7442 votes

Dude, Rumble will smash Garen if you play it right. Get Harpoon at level one and then 2 points into flamespitter and zone the shit out of him. Or if you're confident use Flamespitter at level 1 to overheat and kick his ass. Overheating at the right times is vital in this matchup, try to bait out the spin by blasting him with Flamespitter from just outside of melee range. then Scrap Shield IMMEDIATELY when you see the Q come out to get away and slow him down with Harpoon. Stay out of his spin at all costs and trade hard with Overheat when it's down.

I seriously don't get it how people qq so much about garen? He is actually weaker early game, on 7 he starts to be stronger, plus his mobility is a lot weaker then it was before, the only thing that's letting him be relevant is dead man's plate, without that item he wouldn't catch taric.

50000000000000001 votes

Weaker=/=weak Garen was pretty much never played before rework, so they couldn't really QQ about him.

He was played just not much in high elo except some people, his only strength were early and mid game if he won early, late game he was extremely weak, you could ignore him, while now they shifted his damage from early to mid game, and late, still falls off but villain mechanic helps assassinate targets, I main him for around 3 years so I know at least something, also they lowered his mobility pretty hefty but luckily added dead man's plate which is the thing keeping him alive.

Ralanr1 votes

Yeah, it's the only armor item he builds. Everytime I fight him he has only that armor item.

Sorry for generalizing. Garen is pretty much my bane whenever I lane with Pantheon. I'd rather fight Riven.

He shouldn't be, just a tip fight him from 1 to 5, he's pretty weak especially against pantheon, start with flask so you can poke him, if he charges he will waste his q on your passive unless he uses a AA before but he should be close to you without using his q.

Ralanr1 votes

Yeah I've been given similar tips to I haven't tested yet.

Honestly it's more on my part. The silence is annoying even if I block the attack, but I play too defensively.

If you're having trouble with Garen top, try learning olaf. He absolutely annihilates Garen in lane, to the point where I almost feel bad about it. Even if you're the villain, Garen cannot duel you at all.

If he somehow gets a lead, you can just throw an axe in his face when he tries to engage, and walk away.

If he starts to passive heal, just throw an axe in his face.

If he tries to trade with you, throw repeated axes in his face.

As long as you are decent at throwing/catching your axes, Garen cannot touch you at any point in the laning phase. You simply deal too much damage. You can literally stand in his spin for the entire duration, and as long as you are throwing/catching axes well, you will win the trade.
