Im actually thinking Edge of Night might not be so gamebreaking.

If you take any damage while channeling it the item goes on CD for around 6 seconds. So its completely useless to try to use the active effect while team fighting. The only real use its active would be to flank with the spell shield up/ use it to protect yourself from a flank, or try kill a guy who is on top of a ward. It doesnt really screw over most champions anyway. Just Karthus, Maybe Vladimir Fizz and Zed depending on how long their ult marks last and the interaction they have with spell shields when they pop and deal the damage, also assuming you get away from them so they cant stop its activation. I think new Duskblade is alot worse then Edge of Night tbh.

The point is, on champions like Zed and new Talon, who have pretty much free time engaging on their enemy, blocking out just one ability complete rules out any possiblity of fighting them 1v1 for most mages. You either use up your damage spell to pop the shield, and cc to survive, which means you horribly lost this trade, or you don't CC them, and you die.

Or, more likely, you back off. 1.3k units back, in case of a Zed.

Each wave, for ten seconds, you get completely zoned out.

The point is, when you take an AD mid, you get to shit on the enemy mid and squishies. but you lose cc and magic damage if you do so. You aren't wrong, but people still can't understand this.

Exactly. That's a terrible playstyle, that assassin rework was supposed to make better, not worse.

GULAG 4 U1 votes

Maw was made so most AD mids won't want that shit. Assassins also have delayed burst now. And EON is easily popped just like Yasuo's shield (one single spell, it isn't hard). I'm pretty sure the situation would be better, not worse.

One single spell being blocked when assassin engages on you can mean anything between "horribly lost trade, likely forced to base virtually for nothing" and simply "dead". Depending if you use up your damage or CC ability.

Expect most assassins can't even reach in range of you quick enough other than talon's GOTTA GO FAST ULT ms. Getting away isn't hard and blocking one spell isn't that much of a problem with the CDR in the game. EON is only useful when it's fully built as it doesn't have a mini component like maw. And you can't activate it during combat. It isn't as OP as it sounds.

Its supposed to be the "anti anti-engage" item for assassins and I think with 30s cooldown and 10s duration it might do that a bit too well considering the fact that its almost 100% cost efficient already without the active and without the ooc move speed.

Hitting Fizz ult applies his W dot now tho, so you cant block it unless you already have the spellshield up.

It can't be activated during combat to what I know and taking damage cancels the channel. Ideally you would need to channel this in the fog of war then go in. even at that it blocks one spell and any half decent player should not let their cc block it.

Funny thing is new duskblade is pretty much only going to be useful on Akali, Vayne, and Kha'zix.

Duskblade is shit on vayne because you would lose dps for not attacking for 1 second so you can proc thhe true damage.

Akali doesn't build pure AD items?

Rengar can build it to add more burst to his combo and camping in brush for one second then slapping your ass with true damage while shitting on your wards.

Talon can come out of fog of war, auto you, Q, R, W, Auto.

it's not very good on akali nor vayne and you forgot about rengar and talon.

The champions I mentioned are the ones who can make the most use of the passive. With the akali nerfs, it is actually going to be good to build duskblade, you will come to that realization if you checked up on the akali mains subreddit. As for vayne, it's hard to tell whether she wouldn't want it. Usually the 1 second from ult tumble is used to reposition. And the bonus AD and lethality aren't wasted on her.

As for talon and rango, odds are they will build it, but not really because of the new passive but rather because of the sheer stats. That slight extra burst is just that: extra. Neither of them are able to keep procing it many times in a fight.

So essentially there is 0 penalty for spamming it on cooldown. Remember this when its active was 1 minute I think? item 3092 Just mash that shit any time its up because....maybe something. The cooldown is so low its up by the time it is down. Also, it is completely overlapping the niche of Banshee's Veil. Gamebreaking or not its a horrible idea.

I am more worried that this thing will reduce counterplay to assassins, since mages' only self defense is hard cc, a 30 second cd spellshield that lasts 10 seconds means the window of oppurtunity for mages and assassins become really unbalanced.

especially with stealth assassins, what are you going to do when they jump out of stealth on your face with a spellshield on? basically every assassin becomes nocturne but better now.

it is a no brainer item, the user will just pop it whenever possible, even if it blocks nothing in the duration, because.....well, it's not gonna cost u anything.

"what are you going to do when they jump out of stealth on your face with a spellshield on?" Hit them with a different ability first, then use your cc?

GULAG 4 U1 votes

No you should open the boards and cry about the item. /s

Won't do that much to Karthus tbh he rarely needs his ult to kill someone unless it's just to assist someone going all in from another lane.

SwiftKitten881 votes

yes it will be gamebreaking... and ill tell you why...

Nidalee

she may not give a damn about the stats themselves.

but the passive? channel it while you are throwing a spear when it land and by the timer you pounce in the active will be up... nidalee is a champ that has 2000 hp at lvl 18.. no mr scaling... she builds pretty much full damage.

so she goes in and either kills them and pounces out or she gets 2 shot...

well guess what.. maybe blockign 1 spell wont mean much to most champs.. but when u have 2k hp at lvl 18. that one spell is the difference between getting a kill and getting killed.

and that is on a champ that DOESN'T use the item for anything BUT the active... 3100 for an act isnt great .. but when that active effectively gives you 1000 more hp?.. its worth it..

imagine other champs who build ad with it...

As a Kha main, I'll still be buying it and use it while Youmuu's/ ulting towards a teamfight.

AirKingNeo1 votes

And now we've come full circle.

HazyCloud71 votes

By itself no. But riot is in for a rude awakening when they see that the item they tried to take away from assassins, Maw, still gets built by them anyway. If you thought hexdrinker was annoying, just wait until the Zed you're laning against builds Edge of Night and hexdrinker.

How can it be game breaking? I mean you'll never see a mage again, but the game won't be broken.

lilpokfluf1 votes

I think it's too defensive for any ad mids to first buy, feels like a noob trap to me for people thinking of buying it first item. Similar to when mages build zhonyas first and then complained about enemy wave clear and team fight potential

BakedLotion1 votes

It makes them auto win trades. Use it before a fight and u guarantee a winning trade.
