why do no champions have base AP?
Pretty much the title
Pretty much the title
At this point they would have to go through every AP scaling ability in the game and determine if it should scale off bonus AP or total AP or base AP. Pretty much nothing in the game would be able to scale off base AP or total AP without nerfing all the AP items to compensate. Base AD is a separate thing because auto attacks scale 100% total AD and even AP champions have auto attacks. Notice how most AD scaling abilities in the game scale off bonus AD. Most total AD scaling abilities are an auto attack modifier or require you to be in AA range. Basically you can look at is all AP in the game is bonus AP and every AP scaling ability scales with bonus AP not total AP or base AP so making a distinction between base and bonus AP is pointless.
They have base damage on their spells instead
Nearly every ranged physical carry has base damage on their abilities too, but they also benefit from having base attack damage to start with. This post is another pointing out riot's blatant favoritism.
Most of them have scaling from bonus AD, which is 0 without items/runes. And their autoattacks are like a spell with base damage equal to their base AD and 100% bonus AD scaling
Their autoattacks however scale 1:1 with their total AD (except kalista; not to mention critical hits) and are unavoidable (except fizz, yasou, & jax). Physical carries have always had the advantage over mages.

Except you're wrong because mages will insta burst ADC. If Mages can kill tank as fast as ADC then ADC wouldn't even exists in this game.
Uh-huh, ever try to solo an enemy caitlyn, tristana, or jinx while playing syndra, ryze, or malzahar? You'll never get close enough to combo them; you're also overlooking the fact physical carries do SIGNIFICANTLY more damage to turrets (and other objectives), which is why they've been the only irreplaceable role in the game for the past several seasons. Mages were next to non-existent outside of support last season, because hyper-mobile assassins generally curb-stomped them (fizz, katarina, yasuo, zed, talon, ext). Likewise tanks were relegated to the support role as the early game has become more pressing, as high-mobility & high-damage champions take over top lane (bruisers) & jungle (bruisers & assassins such as leesin). Physical ranged carries have moved around, but have nearly been essential ever since the 'meta' was invented. Granted the occasional crazy team works in some situations (like an all support team), but these adcs have always been the cornerstone of a team. The assassin class was originally supposed to focus them so they wouldn't take your towers; but we've seen how turns out from nerfs & buffs across the board, again.
Without base AD your auto attacks don't do anything.
It's to giver more levers to balance with. Instead of base AP, you have base ability damage. If this was moved to base AP, it would be very unrewarding to level up skills.
Take Xerath for example. His Q deals from 80-240 base DMG, depending on lvl. If that was removed, the only attribute of leveling would be CD reduction. It would also take away the choice away of maxing Q for the best long range poke, or maxing W for maximum damage (if u hit it in the center), and basically force you to "lvl their damage up" at the same rate - and very few champions max 2 or 3 skills simultaneously.
I know W is almost never maxed on Xerath, but it is just an example. It can be viable vs Varus mid or in a mirror match :)
Glorious evolution
kinda has it since with 0 ap runes masteries and items bought he still gets ap at level 1 and scaling upwards.
yo what u bitching about
