It was too good for its stats. Atleast for a morello its not as heavy on the regen and magic resist. It was a must build item if you were facing another AP midlaner, and now morello can be swapped out for other items first.

It wasn't a choice. It was always either Athenes or Nomicon, whichever of the two was the stronger at the moment, for infinite mana sustain.

Allow me to make it clear for you. Based on whichever of Nomicon and Athenes was stronger stat-wise at the time, one would be built 100% of the time and the other 0%.

old athenes didnt excange anything for raw power but dumpstering it wasnt the answer.

It was a bit op and overshadowed Morelos in pretty much every way. I agree Athenes needs a buff though
