Thoughts on the state of top and support: gold perspective

I'll break it up into pros/cons. Skip to whatever part you're interested in. Keep in mind I can only speak for what happens in silver - plat and only for the roles I play.

Top Lane: Pros: 1. The 1v1 feels good. Win or lose, it's on you. 2. Smart wave management is satisfying and effective. 3. It's a good role for learning matchups. The 1v1 allows you to more clearly see what you did right or wrong, as opposed to support or jungle where there are more factors to consider. Cons: 1. Stonewalled matchups. There are some matchups where you're literally useless. Fuck the renekton bar, Gnar bar even rhymes. Ornn top? Get ready for some Ornn porn. 2. You have to crush lane in order to be as relevant as an adc who simply farmed creeps all game. Bruiser items are actually really costly. 3. Jungler fucks up your 1v1. I pick top lane to be on an island and shit on the other guy up there. Hashinshin is right in a sense when he said top doesn't care about winning, top wants to beat the other guy.

Support: Pros: 1. Huge impact. You basically dictate lane phase and get access to powerful actives to impact teamfights and power up your carries. The support is also in charge of vision. 2. Don't have to worry about csing. 3. When you're carrying from support you get a feeling that no other role can give. It's like you're Ash Ketchum and you're finally winning the Pokemon league. Cons:

  1. Again there are some matchups that are unbeatable. But this isn't as bad in bot as it is top. Trist is too safe, and xayah with rakan is too strong.
  2. The support items. They're really really strong. You have to build them when you support. Knight's vow, locket, ardent etc. I want supporting power to come from the utility in a champion's kit instead of must-build items.
  3. Lane phase is too short. It rarely lasts more than 10 minutes and that's not enough time to properly interact with your opponents.

Some humble suggestions:

  1. Make shields shorter. Make them time their skills.
  2. Gut tank waveclear. Make them get waveclear items if they want it.
  3. Put more utility into support kits in exchange for weaker items. Introducing more build diversity in the process.
  4. Change gnar's w damage to physical. Allowing you to counter build him.
  5. Give everyone one free pink ward at the start of a game. Lowers jungler impact early on.
  6. Give bruisers a cost effective mid tier item like botrk was for adcs. Expands bruiser build diversity and allows some bruisers to impact the game earlier.
  7. Give trist an actual weakness. Looks like they're already on top of this one.

Just wanna point this out in case someone else reads this. This guy made lots of stupid assumptions and doesn't describe me well.
